Jamaica, VA – It seems when it rains it pours as Mother Nature once again brought rains on a Saturday afternoon forcing officials of Bill Sawyer’s to cancel racing activities for Truckin Thunder Scout Night presented by the Virginia Army National Guard on Saturday, July 21st. The cancellation was the fifth of the season and fourth in a row. “This is very frustrating, we just seem to be in an unfavorable weather pattern that has given us rain the last four weeks in a row,” commented track General Manager Clarke Sawyer. Truckin Thunder Scout Night presented by the Virginia Army National Guard has been rescheduled for Saturday August 18th. The night’s activities will include the 1st Annual Truckin Thunder Dirtwood Nationals Pinewood Derby presented by the Virginia Army National Guard that will precede the action at the big track. There will be three divisions of competition for the pinewood derby – Scouts, Fans and VMS competitors. Gates will open at 3pm for registration and the 1st Annual Dirtwood Nationals will start at 4pm. The speedway will return to racing Saturday August 4th for Chandler Chevrolet Night and twelve of Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series action. See the Victory Lap Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in action. Competitor gates for Saturday, August 4th will open at 4pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm with hot laps. Speedway to host Dirtwood Nationals Pinewood Derby and Scout Night Saturday June 30th

Jamaica, VA – If you have ever been involved in a pinewood derby you know how exciting it is not only for the kids but for the adults. On Saturday June 30th Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway will bring that excitement and fun to the speedway as it hosts the inaugural Truckin Thunder Dirtwood Nationals Pinewood Derby presented by the Virginia Army National Guard. “We are extremely excited to host this event and to help raise money and awareness for ChildHelp. We have to thank Tom and Judy Brooks of Truckin Thunder for bringing us this idea, they have been a tremendous sponsor and are a tremendous custodian of the community,” commented General Manager Clarke Sawyer. Mud Mayhem 2 Mud Bog Breaks records at “The Pit” at VMS

Jamaica, VA – The Pit at Virginia Motor Speedway hosted the first of two Mud Bog and Mud Sling’s for the 2012 season this past Saturday June 16th breaking records in the process. The Mud Mayhem 2 Mud Bog and Mud Sling presented by Rappahannock Tractor and the Virginia Army National Guard and in part by Davis off Road, ORI of Richmond, Truckin Thunder, Collision One and Monster Energy Drink drew a huge crowd and record field of competitors at the state of the art mud bog facility in Jamaica, VA. The sunny temperatures and sunny skies provided a tremendous day for mud bogging. 112 different competitors took turns at the state of the art 200 foot pit for a total of 202 completed passes. Virginia Motor Speedway to open 2012 season with “Test and Tune” Open Practice; Commonwealth 100 Advance Tickets Still on Sale

Jamaica, VA – Competitors at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway will get the chance to dial in their rides for the 2012 season on Saturday March 31st as the speedway will hold a “Test & Tune” open practices for all divisions. Gates will open at 9am for competitors with on track action to begin at 11:30am. Fans are invited to come out and watch open practice to see all the new cars and paint schemes. There will be no charge for grandstand admission for open practice. Anyone wanting to visit the pits will be required to buy a pit pass. Pit passes will be $20 per person. All cars must be inspected before they will be allowed to practice. Registrations are currently being accepted with all numbers being given out on a first come first served basis. Drivers, meanwhile, can also save by entering the Commonwealth 100 prior to the early-entry deadline of April 1. The $150 early-entry fee not only saves racers $50 off the regular $200 entry fee but also includes a two-day driver pit pass worth $50. The Commonwealth 100 weekend kicks off on Fri., April 13, with Lucas Oil Late Model time trials and heat races, while B-Mains, a 30-lap Non-Qualifiers’ Race and the headline 100-lapper take center stage on Sat., April 14.
