Speedway Loses Another One to Wet Weather

Jamaica, VA – Mother Nature has not been kind to Virginia Motor Speedway. Wet weather and the forecast for more have forced officials to cancel Dirt Track Saturday Night racing activities for Saturday April 30, 2016. “With the rain we have already had, the cold temperatures and more rain headed our way we are forced to make this tough decision. Believe me, we want to race as much as anyone else”, commented track General Manager Clarke Sawyer. The Speedway will take the weekend of May 7th off for Mothers Day and return to racing on Saturday May 14, 2016 for Truckin Thunder Scout Night presented by Northern Neck Chevrolet. The night will feature the 5th Annual Dirtwood Nationals Pinewood Derby and all Scouts in uniform will get in free. Scouts, fans and competitors are all encouraged to participate. Don’t have a pinewood derby? No problem you can rent one for $10 will all the proceeds going to help the charity ChildHelp. Dirt Track Saturday Night Equals Exciting, Heart Pounding Racing

Jamaica, VA – After a very successful opening night to the 47th season at Virginia Motor Speedway all four Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship divisions are set to be back in action this Saturday April 30th for Dirt Track Saturday Night. The evening will feature the Victory Lap Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in some exciting side by side action. In opening night action Davis Lipscombe of Mechanicsville, VA held off Walker Arthur of Forest, VA for the victory in Victory Lap Pro Late Model action while Brian Maxey of King George, VA brought home the win in Budweiser Modifieds, Matt Ashworth of Mechanicsville, VA took home the checkers in Truckin Thunder Sportsman action and Ryan Hutchens of Providence Forge, VA grab the win in Collision One Limited Stock Cars. Competitor gates for Saturday April 30th will open at 4pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm with hot laps. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday: Victory Pro Late Models (30 Laps); Budweiser Modifieds (25 Laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (25 laps) and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars (20 laps). All divisions will run Hot Lap Time Trials and Features. Mother Nature Takes Opening Night of 2016 Season

Jamaica, VA – After six months of waiting for the 2016 season to start, fans and competitors will have to wait another week to get their racing fix as officials at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway have canceled racing activities for opening night April 2, 2016 due to the wet grounds and continued thunderstorms in the forecast. “You hate to lose the first race of the season, but with the wet grounds and more rain on the way we felt it best to cancel the event rather than wait till the last minute”, commented track General Manager Clarke Sawyer. The Speedway will now turn it’s attentions to preparing the ½ mile facility for next Saturday’s (April 9) $20,000 to win Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth. Preparations Underway for Virginia Motor Speedway’s 47th Season; Car Registrations Being Accepted

Jamaica, VA – Preparations are already underway to open the 47th season of action at Virginia Motor Speedway on Saturday April 2nd with WRAR / WNNT Night at the races. The anticipation for the first race of the season has been escalating with fans and competitors alike with both groups excited to get the speedway’s 47th season underway. The 2016 season will consist of 13 Aaron’s Dirt Series weekly events, two high profile super late model specials and the season ending Fastrak World Championship for Pro Late Models. Aaron’s will move from title sponsor of the Pro Late Model division and become the title sponsor of the tracks Weekly Racing Dirt Series Championship. Victory Lap, LLC will move from the title of the Limited Late Model division to the Pro Late Model division which has been elevated to the track’s premier division for 2016 and beyond. The season opening event will take place on Saturday evening April 2nd and feature a full program of Aaron’s Dirt Series action that will include the Victory Lap Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock divisions. The speedway is accepting registrations with the top twenty in each class having their number saved until February 15th when all numbers will become first come first served. Speedway Releases 2016 Schedule

Jamaica, VA – The tentative 2016 schedule for Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway has been released and includes 13 weeks of Aaron’s Dirt Series action, three special events and two mud bogs. The track’s always competitive weekly divisions begin their race for the division Championships and the Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship on Saturday April 2nd and end with the final point’s race of the season on Saturday September 3rd. This year’s division line-up will include the Victory Lap Pro Late Models, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modifieds and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars. The first special event of 2016 will be the Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth sanctioned by the very popular Ultimate Super Late Model Series. The one day $20,000 event is expected to bring some of the nationals top super late model drivers back to the Commonwealth of Virginia for what will be one of the best races of the year. The Ultimate Super Late Model Series will then return on Saturday June 4th as they sanction the 38th Annual Tire-X USA 100. This year’s event will get a purse increase that will have the winner taking home a $15,000 check. The event will also be part of a four race mini-series billed as the Colonial Clash Championship presented by Dirt Nation. The series will start at Georgetown Speedway on Tursday June 2nd for a $4000 to win event, then head to Potomac Speedway on Friday June 3rd for a $5000 to win event; the third event will be the $15,000 to win Tire-X USA 100 on Saturday June 4th with the final event being a $5000 affair at Winchester Speedway. The mini-series will also have a $15,000 point fund with $4000 going to the champion and pay the top 15 in points. To be eligible for the point fund drivers must attempt to race all four events. After a successful debut in 2015 the speedway will again host two, $3000 to win Fastrak Pro Late Model “National Tour” events in conjunction with the two super late model events, making both events a late model fans dream. For two year’s in a row the Fastrak World Championship has produced some of the best racing ever seen at the speedway. The event returns to the 2016 schedule and will be contested on September 16 – 17th. The “Super Bowl” of Pro Late Model racing will now be an open event allowing any competitor to compete with no restrictions other than car must meet and pass Fastrak rules. The event will feature the $5000 to win World Challenge on Friday, September 16th and the $15,000 to win finale on Saturday, September 17th that will crown the Fastrak Pro Late Model World Champion. More details about the Fastrak World Championship will be released in the very near future. Along with the weekly racing action and the special events the speedway will also host two mud bogs at its state of the art mud bog facility that will be celebrating its eleventh year of racing. On Saturday May 21st “The Pit at VMS” will host the 9th Annual Down and Dirty Mud Mayhem and on Saturday October 8th the 12th Annual Down and Dirty Run-A-Muck Mud Bog and Mud Sling presented by James River Equipment and Commonwealth Motor Sports. Speedway Crowns 2015 Champions; Hutchens crowned VMS Dirt Series Champion

Jamaica, VA – Bill Sawyers Virginia Motor Speedway officially wrapped up the 2015 season by recognizing the top ten in each of the track’s divisions with special attention reserved for the 2015 champions. During the night’s events almost $39,000 in cash and prizes were awarded, of that almost $32,000 was in cash. Justin Williams of Concord, VA was crowned the 2015 Victory Lap Late Model Champion for the third year in a row and received a check for $5,000 for his efforts. Williams also received a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography, his Championship helmet trophy and his Champions jacket from Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic. Williams became only the third driver to win 3 titles in a row. Tyler Bare of Rockbridge Baths, VA was crowned the Aaron’s Pro Late Model Champion. Bare became the tracks first ever third generation driver to win a championship at the speedway. The young Bare joins his grandfather Tommy Bare (Late Model – 1980) and father Booper Bare (Super Late Models – 2003, 2004) in winning tracks titles at the ½ mile facility. Bare received a check for $1,000, a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography, his Championship helmet trophy, his Champions jacket from Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic and a 40” HD / Blueray combo television from sponsor Aaron’s. Chad Beahr of Mechanicsville, VA was crowned the 2015 Truckin Thunder Sportsman Champion and received a check for $1,000 for his efforts. Beahrs also received a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography, his Championship helmet trophy and his Champions jacket from Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic. Matt Quade of Mechanicsville, MD was crowned the 2015 Budweiser Modified Champion, his second championship in a row. Quade received a check for $1,000, a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography, his Championship helmet trophy and his Champions jacket from Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic. Ryan Hutchens of Providence Forge, VA won the Collision One Limited Stock Car Championship. It was his career first championship. Hutchens received a check for $700, a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography his Championship helmet trophy and his Champions jacket from Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic. The speedway also crowns an overall VMS Dirt Series Champion which pits all five divisions against each other. Ryan Hutchens became the first ever Collision One Limited Stock Car driver to ever win the overall Championship and received a $2000 check and the special eagle trophy that goes along with winning the title. 2015 CHAMPIONS BANQUET SET FOR SATURDAY OCT. 24; TICKETS NOW ON SALE!

Jamaica, VA – Virginia Motor Speedway will celebrate the 2015 season and officially bring it to a close with the 2015 Awards Banquet on Saturday, October 24, 2015. The event will once again be held at the beautiful Double Tree Hotel and Resort in Virginia Beach, VA. Tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased printing off the order form (2015 ORDER FORM) or by calling Dave Seay or Brian Tidball at the Speedway’s office Monday through Friday between the hours of 10am and 3pm. Tickets can be purchased with a Mastercard, Visa or Discover by calling the speedway. Tickets for this special occasion are only $40 per person and include a buffet dinner and the Awards Ceremony. Tyler Bare Makes Last Lap Pass for Aaron’s Pro Late Model Win; Quade, J. Williams, Brann, Hutchens Grab Wins; 2015 Champions Crowned

Jamaica, VA – Tyler Bare of Rockbridge Baths, VA passed Davis Lipscombe of Mechanicsville, VA heading to the white flag and then held off Lipscombe to take his fourth Aaron’s Pro Late Model win of the season and be crowned the 2015 Champion. Bare became the first third generation driver to win a championship at Virginia Motor Speedway. Booper Bare and Davis Lipscombe led the field to green with Lipscombe darting to the lead. On a lap 13 restart Tyler Bare got under his dad for second and then set out to reel in Lipscombe. On lap 22 Bare closed in on Lipscombe and finally worked inside him for the lead as the two came to the white flag. Bare would go on to score the win and put an exclamation point on his 2015 Championship season. Rounding out the top five were Lipscombe, Daniel Baggerly, Booper Bare and Jimmy Duncan. In other action Justin Williams of Cord, VA got by David Williams of Mechanicsville, MD on lap 24 to grab the lead and go on to his fifth Victory Lap Late Model win of the season and be crowned the 2015 Champion, it was his third championship in a row; In the Budweiser Modified division Matt Quade of Mechanicsville, MD got the lead from James Sparks of Hollywood, MD on lap 16 and went on to score his sixth win of the season and be crowned the 2015 Champion, it was his second championship in a row; in the Truckin Thunder Sportsman division Timmy Brann of Warsaw, VA held off Jeremiah Marshall at the line by .042 seconds to claim his second win of the season; Chad Beahr of Mechanicsville, VA rebounded from an opening lap spin to be crowned the 2015 Truckin Sportsman Champion; and in the Collision One Limited Stock division Ryan Hutchens of Providence Forge, VA held off Stephen Childress for his fourth victory and was crowned the 2015 Champion. The night for the Victory Lap Late Models started off with Tyler Emory of King George, VA setting a new track record with a lap of 17.654 seconds. That record stood for about five minutes before Justin Williams of Concord, VA set a new track record with a lap of 17.649 seconds. On the drop of the green David Williams bolted to the lead with Justin Williams following in second. The two pulled away from Emory who was trailing by five car lengths in third. Justin Williams would try both the inside and outside of David Williams on several occasions for the lead. On lap 15 Justin Williams looked like he was headed for the turn 3 wall backwards when he regained control of his car to stay in second. That allowed David Williams to pull away by about twelve car lengths. It took Justin Williams five laps to get back to the back bumper of David Williams. Justin Williams drove inside David Williams out of turn 4 several times only to come up inches short at the line. On lap 25 Justin Williams finally got by David Williams on lap 24 for the lead. The two would beat and bang for the next four laps with Justin Williams pulling away on the final circuit to get his fifth win of the season and cap off his third championship in a row. Rounding out the top five were David Williams, Tyler Emory, Billy Hubbard and Billy Tucker. In the Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature Matt Quade battled with James Sparks of Hollywood, MD for the first fourteen laps with Sparks holding Quade at bay. On lap fifteen Sparks car slowed in turn 4 due to mechanical failure and handing the lead over to Quade. On the restart Qaude would pull away from the field and go on to his sixth win of the season and his second championship in a row. Rounding out the top five were Brian Maxey, Brent Bordeaux, Tim Schulte and William Mongold. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 20 lap feature Timmy Brann and point leader Chad Beahr led the field to green with Brann powering off of turn 2 to take the lead. Beahr would spin in turn 4 sending him to the rear of the field and putting a possible damper on his title run. Brann would pull away to a pretty sizeable lead. Jeremiah Marshall would reel in Brann in lapped traffic. On the last lap Marshall would dive under Brann out of turn 4 to pull door to door with Brann. The two would come across the finish line in a dead heat and Brann winning by .042 seconds. Rounding out the top five were Marshall, James Snead, Brett Adkins and Matt Ashworth. Chad Beahr would rebound to a ninth place finish and be crowned the 2015 Truckin Thunder Sportsman Champion. In the Collision One Limited Stock 29 lap feature Ryan Hutchens survived a rough and tumble outing to score his fourth win of the season. Hutchens took over the lead in a three wide battle on lap 12. Once out front Hutchens would hold off Stephen Childress for the win. Rounding out the top five were Chris Maxey, Brian Bradley and Dylan Loving. The speedway will take the week off due to the NASCAR races at Richmond International Raceway and return to racing Friday and Saturday September 18th and 19th to host the Fastrak World Championship presented by James River Equipment. The two-day show will feature a $5000 to win 40 lap event on Friday September 18th and the $15,000 to win 60 lap Fastrak World Championship presented by James River Equipment on Saturday September 19th. Jamaica, VA — The speedway will host Collision One / Aaron’s Championship Night tonight! Competitor gates for Saturday August 8th will open at 4pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm with hot laps. Features start at 8pm. Admission: Adults – $12; Seniors (60+) – $10; Military (active/retired) $8; Students (11-17) – $6 and kids 10 and under free. Pit passes (regardless of age) are $20. Divisions running tonight: Victory Lap Late Models (30 Laps); Aaron’s Pro Late Models (25 Laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (20 Laps); Budweiser Modifieds (25 Laps) and Collision One Limited Stock Cars (20 Laps). All divisions will run hot lap qualifying and features. Coolers are allowed (16″ or smaller), no glass allowed. Plenty of well lit, free parking.
