Corey Gordon Cashes in Big with $5000 Fastrak World Challenge Victory on Opening Night of Fastrak World Championship

Jamaica, VA – Corey Gordon’s day didn’t start out as he planned, breaking a drive shaft in practice. But his performance from that point on was absolutely flawless. Gordon won his heat and then went on to score the biggest win of his young career. Gordon of Charlotte, NC took command of the event on the opening lap of the 40 lap Fastrak World Challenge from his outside starting position and then survived several intense restarts with David smith of Inman, SC to take the $5000 World Challenge victory on the opening night of the Fastrak World Championship presented by James River Equipment at Virginia Motor Speedway. “I wanted to just pack up and go home after breaking the drive shaft earlier in the day; I have to thank Teddy Tate for helping with another drive shaft. I can’t believe we are here in victory lane after the day we have had, I have to thank God first of all and my crew for working so hard to get us here,” commented Gordon in victory lane. David Smith and Corey Gordon led the 24 car field to green with Gordon rocketing to the lead with Smith flowing in second. On lap 8 the races first caution would fly for a spin by Jimmy Duncan in turn 4. Several cautions followed on restarts slowing the action. On the lap 10 restart action went three wide with Smith, Daniel Baggerly and Matt Long battling for the second spot. Several cautions closed the field on Gordon’s bumper but on each restart he was able to pull away from the battle for second. On lap 18 the battle for third heated up as Baggerly worked to keep Long at bay. The two raced side by side the next two laps before Long would get by out of turn 4. Once in third, Long set out to catch Smith who was trying to keep pace with Gordon who was setting a blistering pace. On lap 32 Long caught Smith in turn 3 and the two began a side by side back and forth battle for second. With Smith and Long battling for second Gordon was able to stretch out his lead and go on to the $5000 victory. The win was Gordon’s biggest win of his career. Heat race winners were David Smith, Corey Gordon, Aaron Barley and Ron Parker. B-Main winners were Kenny Compton Jr. and Mark Parks. The Speedway will be back in action tomorrow night for night 2 of the Fastrak World Championship presented by James River Equipment. The competitors of the Fastrak Pro Late Models will be competing for the $15,000 top prize and to be crowned the World Champion. Jamaica, VA — Officials from Fastrak Racing and Virginia Motor Speedway have announced the complete purses for both nights of the Fastrak World Championship presented by James River Equipment. Friday night competitors will be competing in a 40 lap event that will pay the winner $5000. On Saturday night competitors will compete for the $15,000 top prize and be crowned World Champion. Other notable positions will see $3000 for 5th; $1400 for 10th and $500 to start the A Main. The speedway is offering a tremendous two-day ticket price of only $22. The special ticket will only be sold on Friday September 18th. The special price is to encourage fans to attend both nights of racing. A two-day pit pass (regardless of age) is only $40 and will also get you a seat in the grandstands as well for the two days. Tim Dohm takes $20,000 Fastrak World Championship; Long dominates non-qualifier and Qaude takes Modified checkers

Jamaica, VA – Tim Dohm of Charleston, WV battled with early race leader David Smith of Inman, SC side by side for 11 laps before finally taking the top spot on lap 27. Once out front Dohm survived several cautions with Jonathan Davenport behind him trying to get by for the lead. Dohm went on to take the $20,000 Fastrak World Championship by almost 3 seconds. “I’ve won some $10,000 to win races but this is amazing, the biggest win of my career,” commented an elated Dohm. “The car was just amazing, I could take it anywhere on the racetrack,” added Dohm. Rounding out the top five were twentieth starting Jonathan Davenport, Max Blair, Jimmy Shiltz and Rick Williams. B-Main wins went to Tyler Hersey, Johnathan Davenport and Kyle Thomas. Heat race winners on Friday night were Colby Cannon, Walker Arthur, David Smith, Chris Meadows, Jimmy Shiltz and Tim Dohm. In other action Matt Long of Concord, NC led flag to flag to win the Engine Builders Non-Qualifier 25 lap race and Matt Quade picked up the win in $2000 to win 30 lap Safety-Kleen Modified Rumble on the River. Colby Cannon and Walker Arthur led the 26 car field to green with Arthur taking the lead out of turn 2. On a restart on lap 3 Smith swept the outside of Arthur out of turn 4 to take the lead. Smith led the next 11 laps unchallenged, on lap 15 that all changed. Tim Dohm went to work on the outside as Smith worked the cushion. For the next 11 laps the two raced side by side with Smith holding on to the lead each time until lap 26 when Dohm finally got by for good out of turn 2. The driver on the move was twentieth starting Jonathan Davenport who woked his way to second by lap 32. On lap 34 he finally got by Smith for the spot with Corey Gordon following to third. On with twenty laps to go Dohm had stretched the lead to a full straight over the Davenport and Gordon battle. Gordon took second away on lap 50 while Dohm got slowed by a four wide battle in the back. Gordon gave up second on lap 52 when he came to stop with a flat left rear tire. On the final restart Davenport gave it one more shot but Dohm pulled away out of turn 2 and on to the $20,000 victory. Rounding out the top five were twentieth starting Jonathan Davenport, Max Blair, Jimmy Shiltz and Rick Williams. In the 25 lap Engine Builder Non-Qualifer race Joe Cox and Matt Long led the field to green with Long taking the lead out of turn 2. Once out front Long put it on cruise control while they battled for second behind him. Cox, Kenny Peebles and Josh Holtgraver all took turns at trying to run down Long for the lead in the caution filled event. Long went on in dominating fashion, never being challenged to pick up the $1500 win. In the Budweiser Modified $2000 to win Safety-Kleen Modified Rumble on the River 30 Matt Quade took the lead on lap 10 and never looked back and went on to collect the win. Bret Hamilton and Mike Reynolds led the field to green with Hamilton taking control of the lead out of turn 2. Hamilton paced the field until lap 9 when Quade dove under him in turn 2 to take the lead. Once out front Quade began to pull away from the battle for second. Joey Polevoy drove under Hamilton in turn one on lap 18 to take over second. A caution on lap 28 set up a green, white, checker finish. On the final restart Qaude pulled away and went on to the $2000 win. Rounding out the top five were Polevoy, Hamilton, Chris Arnold and Josh Harris. Matt Qaude also set a new division track record in qualifying with a lap of 18.901 seconds. Cannon, Arthur, Smith, Meadows, Shiltz and Dohm heat wins lock them into $20,000 to win Fastrak World Championship

Jamaica, VA – Mother Nature did her best to disrupt night 2 of the $20,000 to win Fastrak World Championship but officials were able to get all six heat races in before rain suspended the $1000 winner take all “King of the Hill” race till after tonight’s events. In heat race action Colby Cannon, Walker Arthur, David Smith, Chris Meadows, Jimmy Shiltz and Tim Dohm picked up wins guaranteeing them a spot in tonight’s big $20,000 Fastrak World Championship finale. On heat race of note was heat race number three where Jonathan Davenport crossed the finish line as the winner only to not pass post-race inspection giving the win to 4-time Fastrak SE Touring Series Champion David Smith. In Fastrak World Championship qualifying David Smith set the overall fast time with an 18.604 second lap. That lap was just .005 of a second off the track record set this year by Daniel Baggerly. Tonight’s schedule of events for the Fastrak pro Late Model competitors will consist of hot laps, B-Mains and the 60 lap $20,000 to win feature. There will also be a $1500 to win Engine Builders non-qualifiers race that will start 24 cars. The remainder of the 25 lap “King of the Hill” feature will be run at the end of the program. It will pick up where it left off last night at lap 5. Joining the program tonight will be the track’s Budweiser Modified division for $2000 to win event. Speedway kicks off Fastrak World Championship with phenomenal practice

Jamaica, VA – The best Pro Late Model drivers in the country converged on Virginia Motor Speedway for the kick-off of the $20,000 to win Fastrak World Championship presented by Safety-Kleen. With the biggest field of the year on hand just to practice on the ½ mile speed plant, the excitement level is at a fever pitch. “The Super Bowl of PRO Late Model Racing” will pay out over $150,000+ in the two days of racing with a cool $20,000 going to the winner. Teams from Indiana, New York, West Virginia, Georgia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, South Carolina, Ohio and Kentucky are about to undertake the most exciting race of their career. Night one consisted of an open practice for the fifty-two competitors on hand and went extremely well and smooth. The majority of the FASTRAK competitors used the time to shake down their cars and to figure out the unique configuration of the immaculate facility. “I am thrilled with the turnout for a Thursday to kick things off for FASTRAK’S first visit to Jamaica, VA,” exclaimed FASTRAK Founder Stan Lester. “Just seeing the eyes and reaction of the FASTRAK competitors, families and crews in “awe” of how magnificent Virginia Motor Speedway is was worth it to me, car count is fantastic for mid-week and will continue to get larger before we crown someone the 2014 Fastrak World Champion,” concluded Lester. FASTRAK MAKES EXCITING CHANGES TO THIS YEAR’S $20,000 TO WIN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

Jamaica, VA – Fastrak teams have been looking forward to this weekend all season long and the wait is almost over as the world’s richest Pro Late Model event will take place October 2 – 4, 2014 at Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica, VA. Better known as the FASTRAK World Championship it is the single largest paying event for Pro Late Models on the globe. The event will pay a whopping $20,000 to win and $1000 just to make the main event. “It’s an incredible place for an incredible event” stated Stan Lester Founder of the FASTRAK series. “Bill Sawyer and his staff have put one of the most amazing places in dirt track history together and they are about to host one of the most amazing events in Pro Late Model history”. This is the best of the best in Pro Late Model racing. Teams from Indiana, New York, West Virginia, Georgia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, South Carolina, Ohio and Kentucky are about to undertake the most exciting race of their career. After a lot of research, thought and deliberation FASTRAK officials have announced several changes for this year’s World Championship. First, the number of races required to participate in this year’s World Championship event has been changed from the originally planned 12. To qualify to compete in this year’s event you must have been signed up as a FASTRAK member by the June 15th deadline and have run at least one FASTRAK event of some type this season. No one has been added that was not already a member. The rule book stated “12 unless we see Noah’s Ark”. Well up North some might think they needed an Ark as rain played havoc for many of the FASTRAK weekly sanctioned tracks. “I want to reiterate that this is NOT and open show and that NO ONE has been added that was not already a member of FASTRAK by our June 15th deadline,” stated FASTRAK owner and founder Stan Lester. Adding, “You can bet that will ALWAYS take care of all of our members because they are the reason we are able to do all this.” Second, a $1500 to win $250 to start Non Qualifiers main event has been added allowing for a total of 50 competitors to compete in an A-Main. And this year for the first time in history of the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP there will be ‘tow money’ for the teams not making either feature. If a competitor had the original required 12 races to qualify to come they will receive $500 in tow money for help with their fuel bills. The teams with less than 12 races will receive $250 in tow money. “We wanted to make sure we took care of all our competitors but also give some added value for those drivers that did get in at least 12 races,” stated Lester. “We will also have a provisional available to a driver that has at least 12 qualifying races and doesn’t make it in through the heats and B-Mains,” added Lester. The registration fee for this year’s World Championship will be $100 if you pre-register by September 24th or $150 at the event. “This is a huge savings for our teams as in previous year’s they paid $105 each night of the event; this one change will save them at least $215 if they pre-register,” commented Lester.
