Continued Tire Shortages Force Cancellation of FASTRAK World Championship

Jamaica, Virginia – With Hoosier’s continued tire shortages and after exhausting all avenues available to get enough FT200 and FT400 tires to cover the number of cars expected to compete in the 2021 FASTRAK World Championship two-day event, officials at Virginia Motor Speedway and FASTRAK Racing have made the difficult decision to cancel the event for 2021. “I do appreciate VMS working with us during the struggle with tires. The World Championship is our biggest profit event of the entire season, and as badly as we hate to cancel it, what choice do we really have? Unfortunately, FT90’s are not scheduled to be produced until October, so that doesn’t do us much good for a World Championship this year. That being the case, we decided the thing to do is keep the tires they were making for us in inventory so they could be cured well and have tires to start next season with,” commented FASTRAK Owner/Founder Stan Lester. Lester added, “I know people will suggest that we go to open tire. Well, that’s a little hard to do since there is no compatible tire to the FT200, plus making every competitor have every tire compound of every crate spec tire would be a ridiculous amount of money and not all crate teams can afford that. It’s an impossible situation to be in, but we don’t manufacture tires, so it’s completely out of our hands. The bottom line is this. If there are not enough tires in stock for every team to have three sets of tires, then we have to wait on supply and let it catch up.” The decision to cancel this year’s event is not an emotional decision; it has been based on actual facts that are business-related and that every track, Series, and sanction, asphalt and dirt, has been dealing with all year. Based on Hoosier’s tire production schedule, the time of year they will be released, and the other events already scheduled late in the year, the event just did not have a place to go. “This decision did not come lightly. The track and the Series have worked for over a month now to see if we could rectify the tire issue in advance of the World Championship weekend. We have been in constant contact with Hoosier about the availability of the FASTRAK FT200 and FT400 tires and have not come up with enough tires for every competitor to have the same chance at getting tires. The FASTRAK World Championship has been our season-ending crown jewel for seven years, and it has been gaining the momentum in fan and competitor support that we have been working towards since the first World Championship at our speedway,” commented Virginia Motor Speedway owner Bill Sawyer. All efforts now will be on the 2022 FASTRAK World Championship and more. Speedway to Host Fastrak World Championship September 16-17, 2016; Extends Partnership with FASTRAK for Three More Years

Jamaica, VA – The excitement level and anticipation for one of the tracks premier events is at an all time high as Virginia Motor Speedway gets ready to host the $15,000 to win Aaron’s Fastrak World Championships presented by James River Equipment and Commonwealth Motorsports. The September 16-17, 2016 weekend will feature two complete shows for the FASTRAK Chevrolet Performance Late Models, Friday September 16 will be the $5000 to win, 40 lap World Challenge and on September 17 $15,000 to win, 60 lap World Championship is the “Super Bowl” of Chevrolet Performance Late Models and will crown a “World Champion”. Arthur Holds Off Franklin for $15,000 FASTRAK World Championship Victory to Become Twelfth Different Winner Of Event

Jamaica, VA – The last six laps of the 12th Annual FASTRAK World Championship presented by James River Equipment was worth the price of admission alone. Home town favorite Walker Arthur of Forest, VA held off 2013 World Champion and Super Late Model standout Dennis “Rambo” Franklin of Gaffney, SC for the $15,000 victory and the title of World Champion. Arthur became the twelfth different winner of the event in its twelve year history. The win was a career best effort for Arthur. “I hated to cut Rambo off; on that last restart I heard him digging down there so I had to steal that line or he was going to beat me coming to the white flag. I hated to do it but I believe he would have done it to me; I’m not sure but I think he would have,” commented and excited and laughing Arthur in victory lane. Rounding out the top five were Franklin, Matt Long, 2014 Champion Tim Dohm and Dillon Brown. Walker Arthur and Mark Parks led the 24 car field to green with Parks take the lead out of turn 4. Ove the next four laps Arthur tried high and low to get by Parks, each time Parks slammed the door to hold on to the lead. On Lap five the battle for second went three wide in turns 1 and 2 with Arthur rocketing around to the outside of Parks and Kenny Compton, Jr to briefly take the lead. As the two drove into turn 4 Compton slid under Arthur to grab the lead at the line. On lap 11 the races first caution flew for a slowing Jensen Ford in turn 2. On the double file restart Arthur swept out of turn 2 with the lead and began to pull away. On lap 21 Dennis Franklin got by Compton for second and caught Arthur in traffic just as caution flew for Daniel Baggerly with a mechanical failure in turn 2. The car making a move to the front and maybe the fastest car on the track other than Arthur was Matt Long who had worked his way to third from a eighth starting position. By lap 40 Arthur had worked his lead out to a 4-car length advantage over Franklin and Long. Behind them Tim Dohm and Tyler Bare battled for fourth. With ten to go Arthur held a six car-length advantage over Franklin. With the laps winding down Franklin worked every groove on the track to try and close on the leader. On lap 51 Arthur began to run into slower traffic allowing Franklin and Long to close on his bumper. On lap 54, caution would fly first for a spin by night one winner Corey Gordon in turn 4 and then on the restart it flew one more time when Rick Williams had an engine expire on the front stretch. On the races final restart Franklin jumped to the inside of Arthur heading into three. The two raced side by side back to the line for the next four laps with Arthur holding the lead by inches. With the crowd at its feet Arthur and Franklin dove back into turn three door to door. Heading into turn 4 Arthur cut off Franklin’s line coming out of turn 4 to the white. The move was just enough to keep Franklin on his rear quarter panel and go on to take the win by ,484 seconds. Rounding out the top ten were Franklin, Matt Long, 2014 Champion Tim Dohm, Dillon Brown, Tyler Bare, Ron Parker, Mark Parks, TJ Salango and Ryan Montgomery. Virginia Motor Speedway to Host 1st Annual Virginia State Quarterback Challenge during Intermission of Fastrak World Championship

Jamaica, VA – Virginia Motor Speedway and FASTRAK Racing officials a excited to announce the formation of the 1st Annual Virginia State Quarterback Challenge. The event will feature some of the area’s high school quarterback’s competing to win their school a $1000 scholarship, bragging rights and a perpetual Trophy Cup that they will keep and display until next year’s event. “This is a chance for both the speedway and sanction to give back to the community and at the same time help excite a brand new segment of fans to our brand of racing,” commented track owner Bill Sawyer. The challenge will be run similar to the punt, pass and kick competition and will test the quarterback’s arm strength and accuracy. The throw will be judged on overall distance and distance from the center line. The throw will first be measured for distance and then subtract the distance from the center line to get an overall distance and determine the winner. “This is a great interaction between high school football and racing, two sports that just about everyone loves; more importantly it offers a chance for us to give back to our communities” commented FASTRAK Marketing Director Don Lester. Students from the competing high schools can use their student I.D. to attend the event for $5 and cheer on their schools quarterback. High Schools scheduled to compete are Middlesex High School in Middlesex, VA, Essex High School in Tappahannock, VA, Lafayette High School in Williamsburg, VA, Jamestown High School in Williamsburg, VA and Northumberland High School in Heathsville, VA. In the eleven year history of the event there are 11 different winners adding another element to tonight’s event with three previous champions scheduled to compete. With tonight’s feature going for 60 laps on the super fast ½ mile speed plant in Jamaica, VA drivers might have to use a little strategy to score the victory. Today’s events will start at 2PM with driver sign and technical inspection. Practice will get under way at 6PM with qualifying scheduled for 8PM. Spectator gates will swing open at 4pm. Admission for Saturday September 19th will see adults – $25, seniors (60+) – $20, military (active or retired w/I.D.) – $15, students (11-17) – $10 and children 10 and under free with paying adult. Pit passes (regardless of age) are $40 and also get you a seat in the grandstands.
