Virginia Motor Speedway to host Armed Forces Appreciation Night Saturday May 28th

Jamaica, VA – Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway returns to action Saturday May 28th and will host Armed Forces Appreciation Night featuring four divisions of Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series action. The night will honor those that serve or have served our country and their dependents. All active, retired, Guard or Reserve personnel and their dependents will be admitted for $5 with proper military I.D. The savings at the front gate for our military will not end there as the speedway will continue to honor the $5 price for all military active or retired the remainder of the season. “Our military personnel are near and dear to our hearts, we truly appreciate their sacrifice and want to honor them and give back to them in some way,” commented Track Owner Bill Sawyer. See the Victory Lap Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modifies and the Collision One Limited Stock divisions. Come experience the raw, pure excitement that is dirt racing! Competitor gates for Saturday, May 28th will open at 4pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm with hot laps. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday May 28th: Victory Lap Late Models (35 Laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (25 Laps); Budweiser Modifieds (25 Laps); and the Collision One Limited Stocks (20 Laps). All divisions will run Hot Lap Time Trials and Features. Adult admission is just $10, Senior $8, Military $5, Students 13 –17 yrs old $7, Children 7 – 12 yrs old $4 and Children 6 and under free. Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, an ASA Member Track, is a ½ mile dirt oval track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in Jamaica, VA. Virginia Motor Speedway 2011 season Just Around the Corner; Commonwealth 100 advance ticket deadline approaching

Jamaica, VA – It won’t be long before the roar of engines can once again be heard on Saturday’s at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway as competitors will get the chance to dial in their rides for the 2011 season as the speedway will hold a “Test & Tune” open practice for all divisions Saturday, April 2nd. Gates will open at 9am for competitors with on track action to begin at 11:30am. Fans are invited to come out and watch open practice to see all the new cars and paint schemes. There will be no charge for grandstand admission for open practice. Anyone wanting to visit the pits will be required to buy a pit pass. Pit passes will be $20 per person. All cars must be inspected before they will be allowed to practice. Registrations are currently being accepted with all numbers being given out on a first come first served basis. Competitors can obtain a 2011 registration form by going to the tracks website or by calling the speedway Monday through Friday 10am through 3pm at (804) 758-1867....

Virginia Motor Speedway Releases 2011 Schedule

Jamaica, VA – The tentative 2011 schedule for Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway has been released and includes 12 weeks of Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series action and will open with the World of Outlaws sanctioned $25,000 to win Commonwealth 100 April 15 – 16, 2010 and end with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned $15,000 to win 32nd Annual USA 100. Williams Dominates on Way to Victory Lap Late Model Win; Arnold, Wood and Givens also winners

Jamaica, VA – The beginning of the Victory Lap Late Model feature at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway began with a lot of promise as Stevie Long of Mechanicsville, MD and David Williams of Avenue, MD began a side by side battle for the lead that had the crowd on it’s feet. But good things sometimes come to an end way too soon. Long and Davis Lipscombe led the stout field to green with Long leading the first circuit with Williams right on his bumper. Williams would jump to the inside of Long in turn 1 as the two raced door to door with Williams nipping Long at the line for the lead on lap 3. Long would battle back on the outside and would take the lead back by inches on the next circuit. The two raced side by side over the next three laps before the races first and only caution of the night would come out for a two car spin in turn 2. While under caution Long’s car would come to a stop in turn 4 and would need assistance getting to pit road handing the lead to Williams. Long’s promising night would come to an end as he was unable to get back on the track. On the restart Williams pulled away from Davis Lipscombe and the rest of the field. The closest Limpscombe would get would be on lap 20 as the two worked traffic but it was all Williams as he cruised to the win in convincing style. “I hated to see Stevie (Long) fall out of the race, it was a blast racing him for the lead and I think the fans would have seen a lot more of the same side by side racing if he would have not broke,” commented Williams in victory lane. Rounding out the top five were Davis Lipscombe, Sommey Lacey, Matt Marshall and Scott Adams. In other action Tony Wood of New Kent, VA would hold off Roger Jamerson of Mechanicsville, VA on the final lap to pick up his first win of 2010 in the Truckin Thunder Sportsman division. In the Budweiser Modifieds Dan Arnold of Petersburg, VA would hold off Brian Maxey of King George, VA for the win and in the Collision One Limited Stock division James Givens of New Kent, VA picked up the victory....

Speedway to Host Kids in Uniform Night Saturday August 7th; Championship Point Battles Tight

Jamaica, VA – After taking a week off Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway will return to racing on Saturday August 7th to host Truckin Thunder, Collision One, WNNT, WRAR Kids in Uniform Night presented by Amerigas. All kids in a baseball, softball, soccer, Boy Scout or Girl Scout uniform will be admitted free. It will be a night of exciting racing so bring the whole team or group. The night’s activities will include the Victory Lap Late Models, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modifieds and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars in action....

Budweiser / WIGO Night this Saturday July 24th; Championship battles tight

Jamaica, VA – Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway will host Budweiser / WIGO Night at the Races this Saturday July 24th. All four Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series divisions will be in action featuring the Victory Lap Late Models, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified, Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions. Competitor gates for Saturday, July 24th will open at 3pm with spectator gates opening at 4pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm with hot laps. Matt Marshall picks up career first late model victory in $2000 to win Steel Block Bandits sanctioned Firecracker 30; Jamerson, Maxey and Toole return to victory lane.

Jamaica, VA – Forty of the regions top late model drivers rode into town looking to take home the $2000 top prize in the Cline Construction Steel Block Bandits sanctioned Revere Gas Firecracker 30 presented by Aaron’s at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway and it was Virginia Motor Speedway rookie Matt Marshall of Stuarts Draft, VA holding home court and picking up his career first late model victory. The win didn’t come easy as Marshall had to fend off the advances of Scott Adams for much of the first half of the race and then held off Andy Fries over the final five laps, the last time out of turn 4 coming to the checkers. It all began with six laps to go as Fries looked inside Marshall out of turn 4 with Marshall holding the lead by inches at the line. Each time in turn 2 Marshall would gain a car length and in turn 4 Fries would pull up beside him. The races final caution would come out on lap 29 setting up a one lap shootout. On the restart Marshall pulled two car lengths on Fries and the rest of the field. As the leaders headed into turn 3 Fries closed the gap and got under Marshall out of turn 4 heading to the checkers with Marshall taking the win by.100 second at the line. “This is absolutely amazing to get my first late model race in such a big event. The car worked so well, I learned a lot tonight running up on the cushion,” commented Marshall in victory lane. Rounding out the top five were Andy Fries, Sommey Lacey, Kyle Merkel and Walker Arthur. Heat race wins went to Scott Adams, Matt Marshall, Kyle Merkel and Andy Fries. B Main win went to Junior Carter. In other action Brian Maxey of King George, VA picked up his third win of the season in the Budweiser Modifieds holding off Dan Arnold on the final lap. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman Roger Jamerson of Mechanicsville, VA dove under the spinning leaders in turn 4 to pick up the victory and in the Collision One Limited Stock Car 20 lap feature Ryan Toole held off the challenges of Joe Ender to take his second victory of the 2010 season....
