Speedway Providing Staging Area for Dominion Virginia Power Repair Crews; This Weekend’s Championship Night Postponed

Jamaica, VA – Virginia Motor Speedway continues in its efforts to help in the recovery process from Hurricane Irene. Currently the speedway grounds are being used as a staging area for Dominion Virginia Power line crews as they help in restoring power to the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck communities. Some 250 utility trucks are expected to call the pit parking area home until power is restored to the area. “Our resources, equipment and facilities are at the disposal of the local authorities. Our focus since this past weekend’s hurricane has been to help our community in its recovery efforts,” added General Manager Clarke Sawyer. “Whatever we can do to help we will do. We are all in this together and the more we help the quicker everyone will be able to get back to their normal day to day routines,” added Sawyer. Officials have also announced that Truckin Thunder / Collision One / WIGO Championship Night racing activities have been postponed until Saturday, September 24th. On that night the 2011 Championships will be decided. “With so many of our fans and competitors without power we felt it was in everyone’s best interest that we move our last weekly event so that everyone can take care of their families and property,” stated Track Owner Bill Sawyer. “With the continued State of Emergency issued by Governor Bob McDonald and with the fire and police personnel stretched to capacity this is the best decision for all,” added Sawyer. With the postponement of Championship Night the next event for Virginia Motor Speedway will be Saturday Sept. 17th for the $15,000 to win 32nd Annual USA 100 sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. The night’s event will also include the $3000 to win Mod Madness 30 for open modifieds. For more information on the event visit the speedway’s website. Williams takes checkers in late models; LaRouqe, Wood and Ender also get wins

Jamaica, VA – With the regular season drawing to a close, the battle for points and tempers heated up Saturday on Safety Kleen, NAPA of King William, National Guard Night night at Virginia Motor Speedway. The next to the final night of the 2011 Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series racing season set the table for the championship night on Saturday September 3rd. In what turned out to be one of the best races of the year and in a race that saw five different leaders it was David Williams of Clement, MD that survived the full contact event by taking the lead on lap 28 and going on to record his second win of 2011. “The harder they are to win the sweeter they are when you do get in victory lane, that was about has hard a win as we have ever had, the competition here is so tough so being here in victory lane is that much sweeter,” commented Williams in victory lane. Williams first battled with John Staton of Chesapeake, VA for second with the two trading paint in each corner with Williams taking over that spot on lap 24. Williams then went to work on Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA for the lead. Several times Williams tried to get inside Shelton for the lead only to have the door slammed on him each time. On lap 27 Williams finally got under Shelton out of turn 2 taking the lead he would not relinquish. Williams would have to fend off Staton several times before Staton had to work to hold off Adams who took over second on lap 31. Adams could not mount a challenge for the lead and Williams would take the win followed by Scott Adams, John Staton, Kenny Moreland and Walker Arthur. In other action Travis LaRogue of Mooresville, NC picked up his second Budweiser Modified win in a slugfest. On the restart the race got real interesting as Ferguson and LaRoque went to beating on each other and exchanging the top spot until on lap 23 where LaRouqe took over the top spot for good holding Dan Arnold off at the line for his second win of the season. Rounding out the top 5 were Dan Arnold, Jimmy Duncan, Neal Hudgins and Chris Arnold. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 25 lap feature Wayne Carroll and J.R. Guy led the field to green with Guy taking the lead. Guy would hold the lead until lap 9 when Tony Wood would get inside Guy out of turn 2 with Wood taking the lead at the line. Guy would try to battle back but Wood would hold him off to keep the lead. Over the final fifteen laps Wood would have Todd Traylor on his bumper but Traylor could not make a serious challenge for the top spot. Wood would go on to collect his first win of 2011 followed by Todd Traylor, J.R. Guy, Wayne Carroll and Bubba Holloway Jr. In the Collision One Limited Stock 20 lap feature Joe Ender and Brett Adkins led the field to green with Enders leading the first circuit. The battle up front was intense with Enders, James Givens, Wesley Givens and Ryan Toole all in close proximity. On lap 7 point leader Wesley Givens and Toole got hooked together bringing out the races first caution sending both to the rear. Enders would pace the field with a comfortable cushion over James Givens and David Bowler. On a lap 18 restart Bowler would get inside Givens out of turn 2 to take over second. Scott Adams led the first 28 laps and while in traffic Williams made a bold move to the outside to make it three wide coming to the line to take over the top spot with the fans on their feet. “Lapped traffic helped me tonight, the track was really fast and when Scott (Adams) came up on the slower traffic the outside opened up and I just shoved it in there and hoped it would stick,” commented Williams in victory lane. “It feels great to finally get that win here this year, the team has worked so hard and they deserve it,” added Williams. Davis Lipscombe and Adams led the field to green with Adams taking the lead with a strong move from the outside. Tim Shelton Scores First Ever Victory in Late Model action at Virginia Motor Speedway; Barrick and Childress also first time winners while Enders gets second career win

Jamaica, VA – Mother Nature tired to put a damper on Armed Forces Appreciation Night at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway but track officials had other ideas getting the track in racing condition with the help of the competitors on hand. Once racing got under way the action got intense on a night that saw three first time winners. In the Victory Lap Late Model 35 lap feature Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA led every lap but it didn’t come easy as Scott Adams, David Williams and Derick Quade all took shots at Shelton for the lead. On lap 6 Williams worked high and low trying to find a way around Shelton. Several times over the next few laps Williams would get a fender inside Shelton but could never make the pass. Shelton would be able to get some breathing room as Adams went to work on Williams for the runner up spot. Williams would jump the cushion in turn 3 on lap 16 allowing Adams to take over the second spot. With the laps winding down Shelton held the top spot while Adams battled Derick Quade for second. With the battle behind him Shelton would go on to record his first ever win in the very competitive Victory Lap Late Models. “This is awesome, we have worked really hard to get to this point and to get a win in this very competitive division,” commented Shelton in victory lane. Rounding out the top five were Scott Adams, Derick Quade, David Williams and John Staton. In other action Curtis Barricks of Chesterfield, VA led every lap of the Budwesier Modified 25 lap feature to record his first ever victory in eight years of racing at Virginia Motor Speedway. The win didn’t come without a challenge as Josh Harris of Gloucester, VA made several attempts to take away the top spot without success. Harris would finish second followed by Lance Grady, Page Harrison and Dan Arnold. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 25 lap feature Tony Woods and Roy Skaggs would lead the field to green with Woods leading the first circuit. On lap 3 Stephen Childress and Todd Traylor would get past Skaggs for second and third respectfully. On lap 6 Childress would get inside Woods in turn 4 and take the lead at the line by inches. Once out front Childress began to build a comfortable lead. Woods would make several late race attempts at taking back the top spot but to no avail. The races final caution came out on lap 22 setting up a three lap dash for the cash of which Childress was up for the challenge as he went on to record his first ever victory in the Truckin Thunder Sportsman division. Wood, Traylor, Roger Jamerson and Michael Roop rounded out the top five. In the Collision One 20 lap nightcap Brandon Sandridge and Chad champion led the field to green. Sandridge would briefly take the lead but would jump the cushion in turn 3 allowing Champion to get by and lead the first circuit. Champion’s lead was short lived as on the next lap Joe Ender would get inside Champion in turn 4 to take over the top spot. Ender would quickly get company and Brett Adkins and Ryan Toole pulled up on his back bumper trying to force an error on Enders part. With battles all over the track all eyes seemed focused on the top spot as Adkns began to pressure Ender of the lead. Adkins made several attempts for the lead and each time Ender held him off. The last attempt came on the final lap as Adkins looked to have a good run off turn 4 to get inside Enders only to have Enders hold on to the victory. rounding out the top five were Adkins, Toole, Wesley Givens and Ricky Douglas.
