Excitement building for Opening Night

Jamaica, VA — With the April 13th season opener just 30 days away anticipation for the first race of the season is escalating and registrations have started to pour in from all five divisions. Officials are busy getting the track and grounds ready for what should be a tremendous 2013 season. With the addition of the Pro (Crate) Late Model division speedway officials are expecting to see some new faces competing for the tracks coveted championships. “We are really excited to get the 2013 season under way as we put all our focus on our weekly competitors and our dedicated local fans’” commented Track General Manger Clarke Sawyer. For 2013 the speedway will feature the Victory Lap Late Model, Fastrak Pro (Crate) Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock divisions. Champions will be crowned in each division and each driver will also compete for an overall track title in the Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series. The Dirt Series title will net the overall champion an additional $2000 payday. The speedway is currently accepting registrations for the 2013 season. 2013 Divisions Rules Are Now Posted

Speedway Releases 2013 Schedule; Focus on Weekly Racing

Jamaica, VA – The tentative 2013 schedule for Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway has been released and includes 12 weeks of Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series action. The focus for the 2013 racing season will be on weekly racing and continuing to grow our local fan and competitor base. During the 12 weeks of Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series action the speedway will feature six nights of the very popular twin race format that was utilized during the last part of the 2012 season. Fans and competitors alike were thrilled with the format and have asked to see more of it in 2013. The track’s always competitive weekly divisions begin their race for the division Championships and the Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series Championship on Saturday April 13th and end with the final point’s race of the season on Saturday September 14th. This year’s division line-up will once again include the Victory Lap Late Models, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modifieds and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars. One special event tentatively on the 2013 schedule is the return of the Ultimate Super Late Model Series on Saturday May 18th. Details of that event will be released soon. Along with the weekly racing action the speedway will also host two mud bogs at its state of the art mud bog facility. On Saturday June 15th The Pit at VMS will host the 4th Annual Mud Mayhem and on Saturday October 5th the 9th Annual Run-A-Muck Mud Bog and Mud Sling presented by James River / Rappahannock Tractor and the Virginia Army National Guard. Adams, Doggett, Duncan and Maxey crowned 2012 Champions; Duncan crowned VA Army National Guard Dirt Series Champion

Jamaica, VA – Bill Sawyers Virginia Motor Speedway wrapped up the 2012 season by recognizing the top ten in each of the track’s divisions with special attention reserved for the 2012 champions. During the night’s events almost $34,000 in cash and prizes were awarded, of that almost $28,000 was in cash. This year’s championships saw two familiar faces and two drivers picking up career first championships. Scott Adams of Chester, VA was crowned the Victory Lap Late Model Champion for the third consecutive year and received a check for $5,000 for his efforts. Adams also received a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography and his Championship helmet trophy and jacket. Rounding out the top ten in Victory Lap Late Model points were Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA; Billy Tucker of King George, VA; Joe Ender of Glen Allen, VA; Troy Williams of South Mills, NC; John Staton of Chesapeake, VA; Davis Lipscombe of Mechanicsville, VA; Andy Gregg of Portsmouth, VA; Billy Adkins of Saluda, VA and Alan Anderson of Norfolk, VA. Fan Promotion Huge Success with Help of Virginia Motor Speedway Drivers

Jamaica, VA – For two weeks prior to the Saturday August 18th historic Scout Night at the Virginia Motor Speedway, competitors at the high-speed half-mile clay oval handed out free passes to their family members, friends and co-workers to invite them out to watch them race. What followed was a record setting weekly audience for the facility. An estimated crowd of nearly 4,000 people packed the facility for a picture-perfect night of racing which included a twin race format that excited all those in attendance. “This was a really successful promotion that we hope will lead to larger crowds at all of our future events. We have been inundated with emails and phone calls from first time visitors that really enjoyed themselves and we want to thank everyone that participated in the promotion,” commented track General Manager Clarke Sawyer. After sorting and counting nearly 2,200 free passes, Virginia Motor Speedway officials are pleased to announce the top recruits and winners of some fantastic awards. The Victory Lap Late Model division produced the top two recruiters with Joe Ender of Glen Allen, VA topping all drivers with 274 fans filtering through the gates with a free pass embellished with his name and car number. The Victory Lap Late Model leading rookie will receive a set of tires courtesy of Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic. Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA finished a close second with 255 passes returned and will receive twenty gallons of Sunoco Racing Fuel courtesy of Hank Thomas Performance. Ten gallons of Sunoco Racing Fuels will go to Truckin Thunder Sportsman rookie Thomas Rose of Gloucester, VA who finished third, Truckin Thunder Sportsman driver Tommy Upshaw finishing fourth and Budweiser Modified rookie Donnie Smith of Fredericksburg, VA finishing fifth in the final free pass count. Each of the drivers finishing sixth through tenth will receive a free pit pass for the Saturday September 1st race. Speedway to host Dirtwood Nationals Pinewood Derby and Scout Night Saturday June 30th

Jamaica, VA – If you have ever been involved in a pinewood derby you know how exciting it is not only for the kids but for the adults. On Saturday June 30th Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway will bring that excitement and fun to the speedway as it hosts the inaugural Truckin Thunder Dirtwood Nationals Pinewood Derby presented by the Virginia Army National Guard. “We are extremely excited to host this event and to help raise money and awareness for ChildHelp. We have to thank Tom and Judy Brooks of Truckin Thunder for bringing us this idea, they have been a tremendous sponsor and are a tremendous custodian of the community,” commented General Manager Clarke Sawyer. The event will run as part of Scout Night at the Races and the Speedway’s 4th of July celebration. Gates will open at 3pm for registration with the Dirtwood National Pinewood Derby starting at 4pm. After the Dirtwood Nationals all Scouts (Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts) if wearing their uniform will get free admission to enjoy a night of full sized dirt car racing and a huge 4th of July fireworks display that is sure to please the whole family. During the evenings festivities the Speedway will also help in raising money and awareness for the charity ChildHelp®. “I can’t wait for the first Dirtwood Nationals event on June 30th. Pairing a pinewood derby event with a full scale racing night at Virginia Motor Speedway seems a natural. WXGM Gloucester Community Night This Saturday Night presented by Farm Bureau Insurance

Jamaica, VA — The speedway will return to racing this Saturday June 9th to host WXGM Xtra 99.1 Gloucester County Community Night presented by Farm Bureau Insurance of Gloucester and week six of Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series action. Jamaica, VA – Officials are clarifying the tire rule for the Truckin Thunder Sportsman division and will permit the use of Hoosier D35, Hoosier D45 and Hoosier D55 compounds if you have them. If you would like to run D35’s or D55’s they must be pre-ordered through Larry Grimestead our tire provider. The D45’s are no longer available for purchase as they have been discontinued.
