Billy Hubbard gets first Victory Lap Late Model win in ten years; Jeremiah Marshall gets career first win; Reynolds, Thompson and Curtis also win

Jamaica, VA – It has been ten years since Billy Hubbard of Cobbs Creek, VA tasted victory in the Victory Lap Late Model division at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, the wait is now over. Hubbard, who took several years off from racing, took the lead from Buck Roadcap on lap 8 and then held off a furious charge by Justin Williams to get the win in the Victory Lap Late Model 30 lap feature on Collision One STAR Kids Night presented by MetroCast. Anthony Kincaid and Buck Roadcap led the field to green with Roadcap taking over the top spot. Billy Hubbard would then begin to work on Roadcap for the lead. Hubbard would finally get by on lap 8 for the and then stretched the lead out to almost a straight away before the races only caution for a wreck that involved Troy Williams and John Staton with Staton’s car ending up his roof. Both drivers would be fine. On the restart Hubbard had Justin Williams working the high side trying to get by for the lead. On the final lap Hubbard came up on slower traffic in turn 3 allowing Williams to close in to challenge for the victory but Hubbard was able to hold on for the win. Justin Williams, Tim Shelton, Stephen Childress and Anthony Kincaid rounded out the top 5. In the Aaron’s Pro Late Model feature Corey Almond and Brad Rigdon led the field to green with Almond taking the top spot with Bobby Thompson following in second. Thompson would go to the high side to take the lead from Almond on lap 19. Thompson would then pull away for his first victory at Virginia Motor Speedway. Almond, Joe Ender, Neal Hudgins and Davis Lipscombe rounded out the top five. Josh Harris and Joey Polevoy lead the Budweiser Modified division to green with for their 25 lap feature with Harris the leader. On the next circuit Polevoy would jump outside Harris to take the lead. On lap 14 Mike Reynolds would begin to put pressure on Polevoy for the top spot. For the next six laps the two raced virtually side by side until lap 21 when Polevoy would pull up in turn 4 with mechanical issues. Reynolds would then hold off several challenges by Matt Quade before getting the win. Quade, Matt Marshall, Brain Maxey and Josh Harris rounded out the top five. The caution filled Truckin Thunder Sportsman feature turned out to be one of the best races of the night. Chad Beahr and Junior Carter led the field to green with Carter taking the top spot followed by Jeremiah Marshall in second. The two raced nose to tail for most of distance until Marshall began working the inside of Carter. On lap 20 Marshall took the top spot away from Carter only to give it back the next lap. On the final lap Marshall drove under Carter coming out of turn 4 to get his career first win by .082 seconds at the line. Carter, Hunter Shelton, Carl Vaughan and Michael Hayes rounded out the top five. In his first race of season Bobby Curtis made a huge statement by leading flag to flag to pick up the win in the Collision One Limited Stock division. Curtis took the lead on the drop of the green flag with Shawn Otey following in second. Otey made several attempts to take over the top spot before fading back. Matthew Cook, Stephen Childress and James Givens began a 3-wide battle for second allowing Curtis to pull away for the victory. Givens, Childress, Brian Bradley and Daniel Alford rounded out the top five. Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway will take next week off and then move over to the mud bog facility to host the first of two big Mud Bog events for the 2014 season. Saturday June 21st The Pit at Virginia Motor Speedway hosts the 5th Annual Down & Dirty Mud Mayhem presented by James River Equipment, the Virginia National Guard and RedNex Sporting Goods. There will be nine classes of “Mud Maniacs” in action ranging from stock to unlimited with cash payouts in all classes. Speedway returns to racing this Saturday June 7th with Collision One STAR Kids Night presented by MetroCast

Jamaica, VA – Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway will return to racing this Saturday June 7th for Collision One S.T.A.R. Kids Night presented by MetroCast. The night will feature the Victory Lap Late Model, Aaron’s Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in Virginia National Guard Dirt Series action. STAR Kids night is always a special one for the speedway as the children from the Gloucester STAR program visit for a night of racing. 3rd Annual Dirtwood Nationals Pinewood Derby and Scout Night Saturday May 3rd

Jamaica, VA – If you have ever been involved in a pinewood derby you know how exciting it is not only for the kids but for the adults. Saturday May 3rd Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway will bring that excitement and fun to the speedway as it hosts the 3rd Annual Truckin Thunder Dirtwood Nationals Pinewood Derby presented by the Virginia Army National Guard. “We are extremely excited to host this event and to help raise money and awareness for ChildHelp. We have to thank Tom and Judy Brooks of Truckin Thunder for the amount of effort they put into this event and for being success a great sponsor,” commented General Manager Clarke Sawyer. The event will run as part of Scout Night at the Races. Gates will open at 3pm for registration with the Dirtwood National Pinewood Derby starting at 4pm. Opening Night wins go to J. Williams, Arthur, Quade, Shelton and Torbox

Jamaica, VA – What looked to be a cold and rainy day turned out to be a great night for racing at Virginia Motor Speedway for WRAR / WNNT Night and the opening night of Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series action. Taking home wins were Justin Williams (Victory Lap Late Models), Walker Arthur (Aaron’s Pro Late Models), Matt Quade (Budweiser Modifieds), Hunter Shelton (Truckin Thunder Sportsman) and Andrew Torbox (Collision One Limited Stock Cars). In the Victory Lap Late Model 35 lap feature Billy Hubbard and Anthony Kincaid led the field to green with Hubbard taking the top spot on the drop of the green flag. Hubbard would go unchallenged until lap 9 when defending champion Justin Williams would begin to work on Hubbard for the lead. The two raced side by side for the next two laps before Williams took over the top spot. On the next circuit Williams would get into a lapped car and the ensuing spin collected both Hubbard and Walker Arthur sending both to the infield. On the restart Troy Williams would rocket away from the field and looked like his was on his way to the win that is until Justin Williams began his charge back to the front. With the laps winding down Justin Williams would get up on the cushion and reel in the leader. On lap 28 Troy Williams made a slight mistake in turn 2 allowing Justin Williams to get to his inside and take over the top spot. Once out front Justin Williams would go on to take the win followed by Troy Williams, John Staton, Anthony Kincaid and Petie Coffey rounding out the top five. In the first ever race for the Aaron’s Pro Late Models Neal Hudgins and Paul McGinley led the field to green with the field getting three wide right out the gate. Caution would come out necessitating a complete restart. On the restart McGinley would get a better start and grab the lead out of turn 2. On lap 3 Walker Arthur rocketed to the inside of McGinley to take over the top spot. Arthur would work out to a sizeable lead while Daniel Baggerly worked his way to second. Once in the runner-up spot Baggerly set out to catch Arthur. Baggerly would pull to within a couple of car lengths but that was a close as he could get as Arthur would go on to collect the checkers with Baggerly, McGinley, Davis Lipscombe and Hudgins rounding out the top five. The Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature may have been the most exciting race of the night as Matt Marshall, Jimmy Duncan and Matt Quade battled door to door for much of the feature. Joey Polevoy and Marshall led the field to green with Marshall jumping out to the lead. For the first 12 laps Duncan shadowed Marshall until he could finally get to his inside on lap 10. On lap 12 he finally took the lead but only by inches over Marshall. Marshall would take the lead back on the next circuit and would race door to door with Duncan over the top spot on lap 18. Not to be outdone Matt Quade made his way past Marshall and set out to catch Duncan. On 22 Quade got inside Duncan as the two exited turn 2. They raced side by side for the next two laps until Duncan bobbled in turn 2 on the final lap allowing Qaude to go on to the win followed by Duncan, Joey Polevoy, Matt Marshall and Rayn Toole rounding out the top five. In the caution filled Truckin Thunder Sportsman 25 lap feature Hunter Shelton used an inside move on then leader Davey Pullen to take over the lead. The multiple cautions were the only thing that allowed the rest of the field to get close to Shelton and he dominated the event for the win. Rookie Jeremiah Marshall, Brett Adkins, Macy Causey and James Bunn rounded out the top five. In the Collision One Limited Stock 20 lap feature defending champion Brandon Sandridge used a three wide pass in traffic to take the lead and go on to a sizeable lead. But on the white flag Sandridge would blow a right rear tire going down the backstretch. Sandridge tried to stay out front but as the field came to the checkered flag rookie Andrew Torbox was able to sneak by for his career victory. Brian Bradley, Brandon Sandridge, James Givens with a flat left front and Ben Lowry rounded out the top five. The speedway will take next Saturday April 26th off due to the NASCAR races at Richmond International Raceway and return to racing on Saturday may 3rd for Truckin Thunder Scout Night presented by the Virginia Army national Guard. Virginia Motor Speedway Crowns 2013 Champions

Jamaica, VA – Bill Sawyers Virginia Motor Speedway wrapped up the 2013 season by recognizing the top ten in each of the track’s divisions with special attention reserved for the 2013 champions. During the night’s events almost $34,000 in cash and prizes were awarded, of that almost $26,000 was in cash. During the night’s events it was announced that the Commonwealth 100 would be returning in 2014 on April 12th with National Dirt Racing League (NDRL) sanctioning and pay $20,000 to the winner and that the USA 100 would return on May 17th with the Ultimate Super Late Model Series once again sanctioning the event. More details about both events will be forthcoming. It was also announced that all the track’s divisional sponsors would be returning for the 2014 season and that the track’s Fastrak Pro Late Model division will have Aaron’s, Inc. as the division sponsor and that the division will now have a separate weekly payout and yearly point fund. Justin Williams of Shipman, VA was crowned the 2013 Victory Lap Late Model Champion and received a check for $5,000 for his efforts. Adams also received a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography and his Championship helmet trophy and jacket. The speedway also crowns an overall Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series Champion which pits all four divisions against each other and in yet another close battle in the eight year history of the championship Truckin Thunder Sportsman Champion Brett Adkins of Gloucester, VA beat out Victory Lap Late Model Champion Justin Williams and Budweiser Modified Champion Jimmy Duncan to take the overall championship and the $2000 check and special eagle trophy that goes along with it. Special achievement award winners for the 2012 season included: The Pitts Lumber Rookies of the Year were Stephen Childress in Victory Lap Late Models; Troy Doggett in Truckin Thunder Sportsman; Matt Quade in Budweiser Modifieds and Brian Bradley in the Collision One Limited Stock Car division. Each winner received a plaque and $250. For the first time the speedway presented a Sportsmanship Award and it went to Victory Late Late Model driver Tim Shelton for his dedication to promoting racing at VMS. Also, presented for the first time was the Hard Luck Award and it was given to Collision One Limited Stock Car driver Bob Terry who totaled his car early in the 2013 season in a wild flip. Childress and Ender Score Career first Late Model Victories; H. Shelton, Adkins, C. Arnold, Duncan, Sandridge and Givens also pick up wins

Jamaica, VA – It only took rookie Stephen Childress of St. Stephens Church, VA six races into his late model career to pick up his first win in the ultra-competitive Victory Lap Late Model division at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway on Truckin Thunder Scout Night presented by the Virginia Army National Guard. Childress grab the lead in the first twin 20 on the opening circuit. On lap 3 Justin Williams looked to get inside Childress in turn 3 only to be turned away. Childress then held off several challenges by Billy Tucker and then pulled away to win comfortably. Billy Tucker, Tim Shelton, Joe Ender and Anthony Kincaid rounded out the top five. In a night of first for the late model division Joe Ender held off Billy Tucker and Justin Williams in a great battle to earn his career first Victory Lap Late Model victory. Ender grabbed the lead on the opening green flag with Tucker in tow. On lap 2 Tucker got inside Ender in turn 1 taking the lead out of turn 4. The battle for the lead then got heavy as Tucker, Ender and Williams waged a three car battle for the top spot. On lap 13 Ender went outside Tucker out of four taking over the top spot by inches at the line. Ender went on to score his career first win followed by Williams, Anthony Kincaid, Tim Shelton and David Padula. Padula won both Fastrak Pro Late Model events. Chris Arnold of Chester, VA picked up the lead on Lap 6 of the Budweiser Modified first event when then leader Jimmy Duncan got caught up in another drivers spin sending him to the rear for the restart. That was all Arnold needed as he went onto hold off his dad Dan Arnold on a green, white, checkered finish to pick up the victory. Rounding out the top five were Matt Quade, Michael Reynolds and Bret Hamilton. In the second race for the Budweiser Modifieds Jimmy Duncan set the pace by taking the top spot on the opening circuit. Multiple cautions plagued the beginning of the event allowing Brett Hamilton several shots at Duncan for the lead. Duncan pulled away for the victory as Hamilton and Matt Quade battled over second spot with Hamilton claiming the position. Quade, Brian Dobie and Matt Ashworth rounded out the top five. In the first Truckin Thunder Sportsman 15 lap event Thomas Rose took the lead on the opening lap with Hunter Shelton in tow. Hunter got inside Rose in turn 1 on lap 4 to take over the top spot. Once out front Shelton pulled away as Junior Carter and Brett Adkins battled over second. Shelton would go on to score the win with Carter, Adkins, Thomas Rose and James Snead rounding out the top five. It was a different story in race two for the Truckin Thunder Sportsman as James Snead lead the first circuit until Brett Adkins swept around his outside in turn 1 for the lead. Once out front Adkins put in on cruise control and would go on to score his third win of the season. Following Adkins to the checkers were James Snead holding off Hunter Shelton for second with Thomas Rose and Tommy Upshaw rounding out the top five. In the first race for the Collision One Limited Stock Cars it looked as if David Bowler would pick up his career first victory but on lap 10 Brandon Sandridge got inside Bowler coming out of two and dragged raced back to the line where he took over the lead and went over to get the win. Bowler, Wesley Givens, Brian Maxey and Shawn Otey rounded out the top five. In the second race for the Collision One Limited Stock Cars Travis Hopkins led first lap and a half before Wesley Givens worked under him for the lead. Once Givens got out front he pulled away with Bowler, Sandridge and Maxey in tow. As the laps wore down Bowler began to reel in the leader Givens but there just not enough laps and Givens would go on to the win. Bowler, Sandrige, Maxey and Hopkins would round out the top five. The speedway will return to racing Saturday June 8th to host week six of Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series action. The evenings events will include four divisions of exciting high octane, side by side dirt track racing. Justin Williams Takes Open Night Checkers; C. Arnold, Adkins and Givens Also Pick up Victories

Jamaica, VA – The 2013 season got underway at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway with some fantastic racing in all divisions. Justin Williams of Shipman, VA took over the top spot on lap 12 with and inside move on David Puckett of King George, VA out of turn 2. Once out front Williams set sail and cruised to his first win in the Victory Lap Late Models. John Staton and David Puckett led the field to green with Puckett grabbing the lead out of turn 2. Puckett paced the first 11 laps with Tim Shelton, Williams, Staton and Joe Ender battling for second. On lap 6 Troy Williams rocketed to third on a restart after a caution. On lap 11 Williams got inside Puckett out of turn and took over the top spot. Once out front Williams began to pull away from Shelton and the rest of the field. When the checkers flew Williams had a cushion of almost eight seconds over Troy Williams. Tim Shelton, John Staton and Joe Ender rounded out the top five. Mark Parks picked up the Fastrak Pro Late Model win with a sixth place finish. Stephen Childress picked up the Pitts Lumber Rookie of the Race award. In other action Chris Arnold of Chester, VA picked up a hard fought victory in the Budweiser Modified division. Brett Adkins of Gloucester, VA passed Hunter Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA on lap 20 to get the lead and the win in the Truckin Thunder Sportsman and in the Collision One Limited Stock Cars Wesley Givens of Mechanicsville, VA passed defending champion Brian Maxey of King George, VA on lap 9 to get the lead and the win. Budweiser Modifieds Matt Quade and Brandon Galloway led the field to green with Galloway taking the lead out of turn 2. On the next circuit Chris Arnold rocketed to the lead with his father Dan Arnold in tow. Arnold paced the field unchallenged until lap 12 when defending champion Jimmy Duncan got inside Arnold in turn 1 to briefly take over the top spot only to have Arnold put a slide job on him in turn 4 to regain the top spot. Once out front Arnold worked traffic masterfully and went on to the win. Jimmy Duncan, Joey Polevoy, Charlie Hubbard and Donnie Smith rounded out the top five. Matt Quade picked up the Pitts Lumber rookie of the Race with a eighth place finish. Truckin Thunder Sportsman Tommy Upshaw and Hunter Shelton led the field to green with Shelton leading the first circuit. Behind Shelton Brett Adkins, Upshaw, Junior Carter, James Snead battle for position in the top five. On lap 16 Adkins closed in on the bumper of Shelton. The two began to battle for the top spot and on lap 20 Shelton slid high coming out of four allowing Adkins to get to the inside and take the lead at the line by inches. Once out front Adkins pulled away to pick up the victory. Rounding out the top five were Hunter Shelton, James Snead, Troy Doggett and Thomas Rose rounded out the top five. James Snead was the Pitts Lumber Rookie of the Race. Collision One Limited Stocks Chris Maxey and Ryan Hutchens led the field to green with Hutchens leading the first lap after battling three wide with Brian Maxey and Bob Terry on the drop of the green. On lap 3 Maxey took over the top spot when Hutchens went to the pits with a flat tire. On the next circuit the Wesley Givens began his assault on the top spot with the two drivers racing door to door. On a lap 8 restart Givens dove under Maxey in turn 1 to take the lead. On lap 12 the caution would fly for a horrific flip by Bob Terry in turn 3 bringing out a red flag as the crew worked to get Terry free from his car. Terry would emerge from his demolished ride ok to the delight of the fans on hand. Once the race got back under green Givens motored away from the field to take the win. Rounding out the top five were Brandon Sandridge, Travis Hopkins, Brian Bradley and Daniel Alford. Brian Bradley was the Pitts Lumber Rookie of the Race with his fourth place finish. Speedway Swings Open Gates to 44th Season This Saturday April 13th

Jamaica, VA – The time is finally here! As Virginia Motor Speedway swings open the gates to the 2013 season this Saturday night April 13th to host Saftey-Kleen, WRAR, WNNT Night a the races. The anticipation for the first race of the season has been escalating over the last several weeks and fans and competitors alike are excited to get the speedway’s 44th season underway. The 44th Annual season opening event will take place on Saturday evening April 13th featuring a full program of Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series action that will include the Victory Lap Late Model / Fastrak Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock divisions. Competitor gates for Saturday, April 13th will open at 12noon with spectator gates opening at 4pm. On track activities will begin at 4pm with hot laps. There will be a mandatory drivers meeting at 3:45pm. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday: Victory Lap Late Models / Pro Late Models (35 Laps); Budweiser Modifieds (25 Laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (25 laps) and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars (20 laps). All divisions will run Hot Lap Time Trials and Features. Admission price for Adults $12, seniors (60+) $10; military (active/retired w/ proper I.D.) $8, students 13 – 17 years old $6, children 7 to 12 $4 and children 6 and under admitted free. We offer a family pass for $25 (two adults and two children 12 and under). Pit passes will be $20. To enhance the fans racing experience the speedway has installed a short wave FM transmitter and all of the evening’s action can be heard at 95.5 FM.
