Mother Nature Continues to Plague Speedway; Track Suffers Sixth Rain Out of Season

Jamaica, VA – Mother Nature will just not let up. With the facility ready for a night of racing the storms moved in with heavy rains and lightning forcing officials at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway to cancel racing activities for Xtra 99.1 | MetroCast Business Services Night on Saturday July 30, 2016. It is the sixth rain out of the 2016 season. The Speedway will now switch gears and get ready for Ernie Shelton’s 40th Annual Aaron’s USA 100 presented by Commonwealth Motorsports. The event will feature the Ultimate Super Late Model Series competitors in a 60 lap feature paying $20,000 to win. The event will also include a $3000 to win, 40 lap FASTRAK National Tour event for Pro Late Model drivers as well as the Trucking Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Cars in Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship weekly action. Some of the best Dirt Super Late Model drivers on the East Coast will be in attendance trying to pick up the huge $20,000 check and take their place in history. The USA 100 is the fourth and final round of the Colonial Clash Championship presented by Dirt Nation. The 4-race mini series has previously visited Georgetown Speedway, Winchester Speedway and Potomac Speedway. The Colonial Clash Championship boasts a $17,000 point fund that will pay $5000 going to the champion. Speedway to Host Military Appreciation Night this Saturday June 25

Jamaica, VA – This Saturday June 25th Virginia Motor Speedway will host Military Appreciation Night with all military personnel (active or retired w/ I.D.) being admitted free (grandstand admission only). Week 7 of the Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship will feature all four of the track’s divisions in action. See the Victory Lap Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions competing in some exciting side by side action. In week six action Justin Williams of Concord, VA grabbed his first Victory Lap Pro Late Model victory in dominating style. Can he back that performance up this week with another one just like it? Rescheduled Truckin Thunder / Northern Neck Chevrolet Scout Night Set for this Saturday June 11th

Jamaica, VA – This Saturday June 11th Virginia Motor Speedway will host the rescheduled Truckin Thunder / Northern Neck Chevrolet Scout Night. As part of the night’s festivities the track will also host the 5th Annual Dirtwood Nationals Pinewood Derby that is open to scouts, fans and competitors. Gates will open at 5pm with registration for the Dirtwood National Pinewood Derby starting at 5:30pm. After the Dirtwood Nationals all Scouts (Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts) if wearing their uniform, will get free admission to enjoy a night of full sized dirt car racing. During the evenings festivities the Speedway will also help in raising money and awareness for the charity ChildHelp®. There will be two divisions for the Dirtwood Nationals, Scouts and. A champion will be crowned in each division and then there will be a run-off to see who will be the overall Dirtwood Nationals Pinewood Derby Champion. Speedway to host the 40th Annual Aaron’s USA 100 Saturday June 4th; Race 3 of the Colonial Clash Championship

Jamaica, VA – When the Ultimate Super Late Model Series visits Virginia Motor Speedway on Saturday June 4th for the $20,000 to win 40th Annual Aaron’s USA 100 presented by Commonwealth Motorsports several things will have changed dramatically for the storied event. In 2015 the event paid $10,000 to win and then at the start of the 2016 season track owner Bill Sawyer announced that the race would get a purse increase to $15,000 to win. But with the loss of the April 9th King of the Commonwealth Sawyer is bringing the $20,000 to win purse and sponsor over to the USA 100. “When we lost the April 9th King of the Commonwealth to of all things snow and cold weather, I decided we needed to make sure we took care of our sponsor Aaron’s as well as create some excitement for the USA 100, so we moved them and the $20,000 to win purse over to the USA 100,” commented track owner Bill Sawyer. Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth Canceled amid Extreme Weather Forecast

Jamaica, Virginia (April 6, 2016) – After extensive discussion and study of weather forecasts for the area, officials of Virginia Motor Speedway have reluctantly decided to cancel Saturday’s $20,000 to win Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth. The National Weather Service is forecasting temps well below freezing for Saturday along with 20 MPH winds. There is also a high percentage of precipitation forecasted which would make preparing the track for the event difficult if not impossible. Without a suitable make-up date the event will be postponed until 2017. However the Aaron’s title sponsorship and the $20,000 to win purse will be transferred to the USA 100 which is scheduled on Saturday, June 4th. “This is obviously not what we wanted to happen with this event. We have poured a lot of time, effort and resources into making the Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth a success. But the weather forecast is just ominous. We were hoping that it would improve but those cold temps and wind coupled with the precipitation that we will surely get and there is just no way that we could expect people to be here and be able to enjoy the event. So we will take care of our friends at Aaron’s by transferring that title to the USA 100 in June.” said Virginia Motor Speedway Director of Marketing and PR Dave Seay. “It is very unfortunate but there isn’t anything anyone can do about the weather. Saturday just looks miserable. It just doesn’t make any sense to ask people to try to endure that kind of weather. Speedway Crowns 2015 Champions; Hutchens crowned VMS Dirt Series Champion

Jamaica, VA – Bill Sawyers Virginia Motor Speedway officially wrapped up the 2015 season by recognizing the top ten in each of the track’s divisions with special attention reserved for the 2015 champions. During the night’s events almost $39,000 in cash and prizes were awarded, of that almost $32,000 was in cash. Justin Williams of Concord, VA was crowned the 2015 Victory Lap Late Model Champion for the third year in a row and received a check for $5,000 for his efforts. Williams also received a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography, his Championship helmet trophy and his Champions jacket from Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic. Williams became only the third driver to win 3 titles in a row. Tyler Bare of Rockbridge Baths, VA was crowned the Aaron’s Pro Late Model Champion. Bare became the tracks first ever third generation driver to win a championship at the speedway. The young Bare joins his grandfather Tommy Bare (Late Model – 1980) and father Booper Bare (Super Late Models – 2003, 2004) in winning tracks titles at the ½ mile facility. Bare received a check for $1,000, a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography, his Championship helmet trophy, his Champions jacket from Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic and a 40” HD / Blueray combo television from sponsor Aaron’s. Chad Beahr of Mechanicsville, VA was crowned the 2015 Truckin Thunder Sportsman Champion and received a check for $1,000 for his efforts. Beahrs also received a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography, his Championship helmet trophy and his Champions jacket from Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic. Matt Quade of Mechanicsville, MD was crowned the 2015 Budweiser Modified Champion, his second championship in a row. Quade received a check for $1,000, a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography, his Championship helmet trophy and his Champions jacket from Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic. Ryan Hutchens of Providence Forge, VA won the Collision One Limited Stock Car Championship. It was his career first championship. Hutchens received a check for $700, a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography his Championship helmet trophy and his Champions jacket from Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic. The speedway also crowns an overall VMS Dirt Series Champion which pits all five divisions against each other. Ryan Hutchens became the first ever Collision One Limited Stock Car driver to ever win the overall Championship and received a $2000 check and the special eagle trophy that goes along with winning the title. 11TH ANNUAL RUN-A-MUCK MUD BOG SET FOR SATURDAY OCT 10TH

JJamaica, VA – The Pit at Virginia Motor Speedway will host the 11th Annual Down and Dirty Run-A-Muck Mud Bog and Mud Sling presented by James River Equipment and Commonwealth Motorsports Saturday October 10th featuring a state of the art 200-foot Mud Bog and Mud Sling pits. There will be nine classes of “Mud Maniacs” in action ranging from super stock to unlimited with cash payouts in all classes. 2015 CHAMPIONS BANQUET SET FOR SATURDAY OCT. 24; TICKETS NOW ON SALE!

Jamaica, VA – Virginia Motor Speedway will celebrate the 2015 season and officially bring it to a close with the 2015 Awards Banquet on Saturday, October 24, 2015. The event will once again be held at the beautiful Double Tree Hotel and Resort in Virginia Beach, VA. Tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased printing off the order form (2015 ORDER FORM) or by calling Dave Seay or Brian Tidball at the Speedway’s office Monday through Friday between the hours of 10am and 3pm.
