2018 DRIVER REGISTRATION NOW OPEN

Jamaica, VA – Speedway officials have announced that 2018 driver registration is now open for all Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship weekly divisions. Competitors are encouraged to get their registration in before the opening weekend. Registration is once again $100 for the year OR $25 per race. Number choice for the top twenty (20) in 2017 points is secured until February 28, 2018, at that time all numbers will be first come, first served. Competitors can print off the 2018 forms and mail them in with a check or provide credit card info at the bottom of the registration form. There is a $3 convenience fee when using a credit card. There are three forms that MUST be filled out for registration. Please have them all filled out and returned. Jamaica, VA – Virginia Motor Speedway has released the tentative schedule for the 2018 season. It will mark the 49th season of action at the ½ mile speed plant in Jamaica, VA. The schedule includes twelve (12) nights of Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship weekly racing action, two Ultimate Super Late Model sanctioned events – the April 14th $20,000 to win Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth and the $20,000 to win 42ND Annual USA 100 presented by Commonwealth Motorsports; the $20,000 to win FASTRAK World Championship presented by James River Equipment weekend and two mud bogs at the facilities state-of-the-art 200 mud bog pit. The 49thAnnual season opening event will take place on Saturday evening April 7TH featuring a full program of Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship action that will include the Victory Lap Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock divisions. The season’s first special event will be April 14th and see the return of the Ultimate Super Late Model Series for the $20,000 to win Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth along with a $3000 to win FASTRAK National event for Pro Late Models. The event will have a Sunday April 15th rain date. June 16TH the Ultimate Super Late Model Series stars and cars will return for the 42ND Annual USA 100 presented by Commonwealth Motorsports and pay $20,000 to win. There will also be a $3000 to win FASTRAK National event for Pro Late Models. The event will have a Sunday June 17th rain date. The 2018 FASTRAK World Championship returns September 14-15, 2018 and will once again pay $20,000 to win. Jamaica, VA – Bill Sawyers Virginia Motor Speedway officially wrapped up the 2017 season by recognizing the top ten in each of the track’s divisions with special attention reserved for the 2017 champions. During the night’s events almost $36,000 in cash and prizes were awarded, of that almost $27,000 was in cash. Justin Williams of Concord, VA was crowned the 2017 Victory Lap Pro Late Model Champion for the second year in a row and received a check for $5,000 for his efforts. Williams also received a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography, his Championship helmet trophy and his Champions jacket from Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic. The title was Williams fifth in a row at Virginia Motor Speedway. Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA was crowned the 2017 Truckin Thunder Sportsman Champion and received a check for $1,000 for his efforts. Jamerson also received a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography, his Championship helmet trophy and his Champions jacket from Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic. This was Shelton’s second Truckin Thunder Sportsman title. James Givens of Henrico, VA was crowned the 2017 Collision One Limited Stock Car Champion and received a check for $700, a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography his Championship helmet trophy and his Champions jacket from Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic. This is Givens’ second Limited Stock title. During his speech Givens announced he would be moving up to the Victory Lap Pro Late Model division in 2018. The speedway also crowns an overall Aaron’s Dirt Series Champion which pits all four divisions against each other. Tim Shelton, on the strength of his five wins and his eight top 5’s, won the overall Championship and received a $2000 check and the special eagle trophy that goes along with winning the title. Aaron’s also presented Shelton with a 50” Phillips 4K Ultra HD television. Special achievement award winners for the 2017 season included: The Pitts Lumber Rookies of the Year were Matt Quade of Avenue, MD in Victory Lap Pro Late Models; Tyler Shipp of Mechancisville, VA in Truckin Thunder Sportsman; Tim Schulte of Troy, VA in Budweiser Modifieds and Trent Clemans of Providence Forge, VA in the Collision One Limited Stock Car division. Jamaica, VA – Virginia Motor Speedway will celebrate the 2017 season and officially bring it to a close with the 2017 Awards Banquet on Saturday, November 18, 2017. The event will once again be held at the beautiful Double Tree Hotel and Resort in Virginia Beach, VA. During the evenings award ceremony over $55,000 in cash and contingencies will be handed out to the Speedway’s four Champions and the remainder of the top 10 in each division. The Victory Lap Pro Late Model Champion will receive $5,000 for winning his championship. The Speedway will also crown the 2017 Aaron’s Dirt Series Champion and award him or her with a $2000 check. The Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship pits all of the Speedway’s competitors against each other and crowning one overall Champion. One of the most exciting and memorable times during the Awards Banquet weekend is the annual go-kart race that is held at Motoworld in Virginia Beach. Fans, Competitors and officials gather to compete in a friendly atmosphere that leaves everyone talking during the night’s banquet festivities. Jamaica, VA – Virginia Motor Speedway officials have made the difficult decision to cancel Aaron’s | Pepsi | Commonwealth Motorsports Championship Night due to heavy overnight rains and the forecast for much of the same for the rest of the day. “After getting over 2” of rain last night and today’s forecast calling for strong to possibly severe storms this afternoon we were forced to make this difficult decision,” commented track owner Bill Sawyer. Williams Scores Fifth Pro Late Model Win of Season; Arnold, Shelton and Givens also Grab Victories

Jamaica, VA – Justin Williams of Concord, VA powered his way inside of Tyler Bare of Rockbridge Baths, VA in turn 1 to take the lead on lap 12 of the Victory Lap Pro Late Model feature. Once out front Williams would cruise to his fifth win on Northern Neck Chevrolet / Collision One Night to benefit the Northern Neck Food Bank and Feedmore. “The track was the way back the way I like it tonight and having to start that far back in the field I didn’t think I would get to the front with guys like Walker (Arthur) and Tyler (Bare) up front; but we were able to get up through there pretty quick,” commented Williams in WhosYourDriver.org Victory lane. In other action Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA led all 30 laps of the Truckin Thunder Sportsman feature on way to his fifth win of the season; in the Budweiser Modified feature Chris Arnold took over the lead on lap 18 from Mike Reynolds of Mechanicsville, MD and went on to score the victory. In the Collision One Limited Stock Car twin features James Givens of Henrico, VA did a little double dipping taking both feature wins. Tyler Bare and Camden Testerman led the field to green with bare using the outside to lead the first circuit. Bare would pace the field while Testerman, Walker Arthur and Stephen Childress battled three wide for second. Childress would come out with second but lost the spot to Justin Williams on a lap 4 restart. For the next 8 laps Williams stalked Bare looking for a way around the leader. On lap 11 Williams jumped inside Bare in turn 1 to grab the lead. Once out front Williams began to pull away from Bare and the rest of the field. Once out front Williams only had to survive some last race restarts to score his The Budweiser Modified 30 feature turned out to be a barn burner that had four cars battling for the win. When it was all said and done it was Chris Arnold taking the victory. Mike Reynolds grab the top spot on the drop of the green flag with Hunter McClendon and Arnold in tow. For the next 16 laps McClendon and Arnold each worked different lanes on the track trying to get around Reynolds for the lead. On lap 17 Arnold jumped to the high side, first taking second from McClendon and then getting outside Reynolds as they exited out of turn 2. Arnold would finally secure the top spot at the line and then pulled away for the victory. Point leader Joey Polevoy’s night ended on lap 26 in a wreck in turn 3. Rounding out the top five were Mike Reynolds, Hunter McClendon, Bret Hamilton and eighteenth starting Marks Parks. On the start of the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 30 lap feature Tim Shelton made it three wide with Tyler Shipp and Steve Causey. By turn 3 Shelton had taken over the lead. Once out front Shelton would pull away from the field, at one point holding a full straight away lead. Behind him the battle for second was pretty intense between Adkins, Causey and Shipp. Adkins’ night would come to an end on lap 27 with mechanical issues. Shelton only had to survive a few late race cautions to take home the victory followed by Tyelr Shipp, Michael Hayes, Steve Causey and Joe Weiss. The Collision One Limited Stock division ran a special “Twin Race” format to make up a rainout earlier in the season. In the first 15 lap feature it only took James Givens 5 laps to grab the lead. In lap 4 Givens jumped to the outside of both Chad Champion and Ryan Hutchens to grab the lead. The top three pulled away from the field with Givens holding off Champion and Hutchens. On the final lap Hutchens made it three wide coming out of turn 4 but Givens held him off at the line. Rounding out the top five were Ryan Hutchens, Chad Champion, Cory Bradley and Ernie Dettbarn. In race #2 for the Collision One Limited Stocks Bill Hardman and John Hankins Jr. led the field to green with it going four wide for the lead. Hankins would lead the first lap but give up the top spot on lap 3 to Cory Bradley. Bradley would lead until his spin in turn 4 that saw Ernie Dettbarn flipping in turn 4 bringing out a red flag. That handed the lead to James Givens with Ryan Hutchens moving to second. On the final restart Givens pulled away from Hutchens to drive away for his fourth win of the season. Rounding out the top five were Ryan Hutchens, Randy Hutchens, Trent Clemans and Chris Champion. Jamaica, VA – The speedway will return to racing Saturday August 26, 2017 to host Northern Neck Chevrolet | Collision One Back to School Night and week 12 of the Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship Weekly Racing season featuring the Victory Lap Pro Late Models, Budweiser Modifieds, Truckin Thunder Sportsman and Collision One Limited Stock Cars in action. Saturday August 26th the speedway, along with its sponsors, will be collecting food and donations for FeedMore and the Northern Neck Food Bank. For every five (5) non-perishable food items donated race fans will receive one (1) FREE general admission ticket to the night’s racing. There is no limit on the number of tickets you can get free. For a list of suggested food items please visit the track website or visit www.feedmore.org and click on Food Drive. The shelves at the local food banks are really bare at this time of year and we encourage everyone to bring as many items as they can to donate. The speedway will also be handing out backpacks, while supplies last, courtesy of ChildHelp to every child that comes to the front gate between the hours of 5pm and 8pm. It is estimated we have over 3000 back packs to give out. Jamaica, VA – Overnight and morning rains along with the forecast for heavy rains during the remainder of the day have forced officials at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway to cancel racing activities for Commonwealth Motorsports | XTRA 99.1 Night on Saturday Augusta 12, 2017. It is the speedway’s fourth rainout of the season. “It is never an easy decision to cancel an event, but with the overnight rains and the track still receiving rain it is evident that we will not be able to get in any racing today”, commented track General Manager Clarke Sawyer. The speedway will take a scheduled weekend off on Saturday August 19th and return to racing Saturday August 26, 2017 to host Northern Neck Chevrolet | Collision One Back to School Night and week 12 of the Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship Weekly Racing season featuring the Victory Lap Pro Late Models, Budweiser Modifieds, Truckin Thunder Sportsman and Collision One Limited Stock Cars in action. Saturday August 26th the speedway along with its sponsors will collecting food and donations for FeedMore and the Northern Neck Food Bank. For every five (5) non-perishable food items donated race fans will receive one (1) FREE general admission ticket to the night’s racing. There is no limit on the number of tickets you can get free. The shelves at the local food banks are really bare at this time of year and we encourage everyone to bring as many items as they can to donate. The speedway will also be handing out backpacks, while supplies last, courtesy of ChildHelp to every child that comes to the front gate between the hours of 5pm and 8pm. “Childhelp is proud to partner with Virginia Motor Speedway to provide back to school backpacks to children in the Middlesex and surrounding school districts” commented Wade Hardman of ChildHelp.
