Rain and Saturated Grounds Force Cancellation of Racing for Saturday July 28th

Jamaica, VA – Persistent heavy rains all week and downpours over night have forced officials at Virginia Motor Speedway to cancel racing activities for Saturday July 28th. “With the amount of rain we had during the week, the torrential downpours over night and a forecast for more of the same today have forced us to make this difficult decision. The grounds just can’t take any more moisture,” commented track General Manager Clarke Sawyer. Speedway Returns to Racing This Saturday July 28th

Jamaica, VA – This Saturday July 28th Virginia Motor Speedway returns to racing and will host week 8 of Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship weekly racing featuring the Victory Lap Pro Late Models, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Cars in some exciting side by side racing! The action on the track continues to be as hot as the temperatures with three of the four Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship divisions having four different winners in as many events. Will that trend continue this Saturday night in the Pro Late Model, Sportsman and Modified divisions? With the caliber of competition that races weekly at VMS the chances are high that it will continue. Heading into this weekend’s action the Championship point races look to get event tighter. In the Victory Lap Pro Late Model division Corey Almond of Appomattox, VA holds a slim 12 point advantage over Matt Quade of Mechanicsville, MD; in the Truckin Thunder Sportsman Steve Causey of Smithfield, VA took over the points lead with his win at the last race and holds a slim 4 point lead over both defending Champion Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA; in the Budweiser Modified division Ryan Toole of Henrico, VA and Tim Schulte of Troy, VA are tied atop the standings and hold a 7 point advantage over rookie Chase Butler of Mechanicsville, VA and in the Collision One Limited Stock Cars defending Champion James Givens of Sandston, VA holds a 15 point advantage over Cory Bradley of Hopewell, VA. Competitor gates for Saturday July 28th will open at 3pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm for hot laps. Corey Almond Grabs First Pro Late Model Victory at Virginia Motor Speedway; Hamilton, Causey and Givens also visit WhosYourDriver.org Victory Lane

Jamaica, VA – A win at Virginia Motor Speedway has been eluding Corey Almond of Appomattox, VA for several years now, but that is not the case anymore as he pulled away late to take home the victory. Several cautions on the start of the feature moved Almond up to the front row. On the drop of the green flag Almond took the lead from Ryan Adams of Madison Heights, VA and began to pull away from the field. Almond held off several challenges by Matt Quade and Mark Parks to take home the victory. “We have been working really hard to get a victory here at Virginia Motor Speedway, I hate that I slid up on that first start and got into Davis (Lipscombe) but it doesn’t take away from what I am feeling right now,” commented and emotional Almond in WhosYourDriver.org victory lane. Rounding out the top five were Mark Parks, Ryan Adams, Matt Quade and Bobby Thompson. In other action Steve Causey of Smithfield, VA scored his career first Truckin Thunder Sportsman victory at VMS and became the fourth winner in as many races; in the Budweiser Modified 30 lap feature Bret Hamilton of Powhatan, VA became the fourth winner in as many races by holding off a charging Tim Schulte of Troy, VA for the win and in the Collision One Limited Stock Car 25 lap feature James Givens of Sandston, VA held off Cory Bradley of Hopewell, VA at the line to score his third win of the season. Matt Glanden and Ryan Adams led the Victory Lap Pro Late Model 19 car field to green with the caution coming out for a wreck in turn one. It took another two tries to get the race started before Corey Almond would take control of the race. For the first 14 laps Almond had to hold off the challenges of Matt Quade. Quade would have to come to pit road on lap 15 to fix a flat right rear tire. On the restart Mark Parks tried to sweep the outside of Almond but could not pull off the pass. Almond would pull away and use the traffic to his advantage. With all the battling behind him Almond was able to dominate the remainder of the race and take home his first VMS victory. Rounding out the top five were Mark Parks, Ryan Adams, Matt Quade and Bobby Thompson. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 30 lap feature Tyler Shipp and Steve Causey led the field to green with Causey grabbing the lead out of turn 2. Behind him the battle went three wide with fast Qualifier Brett Adkins going to the outside to move to third from his sixth place starting position. On lap 5 Adkins took second from Shipp and set out to run down the leader Causey. On the final 25 laps Adkins would take several shots at Causey for the lead only to be turned away each time. Causey would hold on to grab his first Virginia Motor Speedway victory. Rounding out the top five were Adkins, Mark Gonzales, Hunter Shelton and Michael Hayes. The box score may show that Bret Hamilton led all 30 laps of the Budweiser Modified feature but what it doesn’t show is how hard that victory was for Hamilton. Tim Schulte and Hamilton led the 17 car field to green with Hamilton taking control of the top spot out of turn 2. By lap 10 the leaders were working their way through traffic with Hamilton using the top and Schulte down on the bottom. With eight laps to go Schulte began getting a run on Hamilton each time out of both turn 2 and turn 4. Each time Hamilton was able to hold him off at the line. A caution with two to go set up a green, white, checkered finish. On the restart Hamilton was able to get a couple of car lengths over Schulte only to have Schulte close that gap back up. With one to go Schulte got a run on Hamilton in turn three but Hamilton took away his line and hold him off for the win. Rounding out the top five were Schulte, Francis Jarrelle, Ryan Toole and Mike Reynolds. In the Collision One Limited Stock feature Chad Champion and Trent Clemans led the field to green. Clemans would jump to the lead out of turn 2 with Champion and James Givens in close pursuit. Givens would get by Champion for second on lap 2 and the two would beat and bang a bit before Givens settled into the spot. On the next lap Givens began applying pressure to the bumper of Clemans for the lead and on lap 6 Givens got to the outside to take the top spot. Once out front Givens looked to be in control of the race. That is until final five laps when Cory Bradley entered the picture. Bradley tried several times to get inside Givens for the lead but couldn’t pull off the pass. On the final lap Bradley made one last ditch effort to take the lead, this time getting side by sode as they raced to the checkers. Givens would hold off Bradley by a bumper at the line for the win. Rounding out the top five were Bradley, Trent Clemans, Randy Hutchens and Marty Coltrain. The Speedway will take next Saturday July 21st off and return to racing on Saturday June 28th and host week 8 of Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship weekly action featuring the Victory Lap Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in action. Tyler Bare Takes Pro Late Model Victory; Polevoy, Shelton and Coltrain all grab first wins of the season.

Tyler Bare Takes Pro Late Model Victory; Polevoy, Shelton and Coltrain all grab first wins of the season.

Jamaica, VA – Tyler Bare of Rockbridge Baths, VA took over the top spot in the Victory Lap Pro Late Model after race leader Jared Powell of Charlottesville, VA and second place Matt Quade of Mechanicsville, MD got together on lap 23 seconding both the rear of the field. Once out front Bare powered away from the field to take the win. “We hate to win them that way, but we will take it. We found something on the top groove and I believe we had something for them anyway. We had a chance to race closer to home tonight but we chose to come back to Virginia Motor Speedway because we love it here,” commented Bare in WhosYourDriver.org victory lane. Rounding out the top five were Ryan Adams, Matt Tarbox, Corey Almond and Camden Testerman. In other action Joey Polevoy of Powhatan, VA scored an emotional win in the Budweiser Modified feature. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman feature Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA wrestled the lead away from Joe Weiss of Elizabeth City, NC to become the third winner in as many races and in the Collision One Limited Stock Car 25 lap feature Marty Coltrain of North Chesterfield, VA held off a late race challenge from point leader James Givens of Sandston, VA to return to victory lane after a two year absence. Chuck Bowie and Jared Powell led the Victory Lap Late Model field to green with Powell grabbing the lead out of turn 2. On the next lap Matt Quade would get by Bowie for second and set out to catch Powell. On lap 12 Quade tried to get under Powell for the lead but was unable to make the pass. For the next 16 laps the two battled for the lead side by side with Tyler Bare making it three wide on several occasions. On lap 23 Quade dove in hard under Powell in turn four and slammed into the side of Powell’s car sending him for a spin. The move resulted in a black flag for Quade sending both drivers to the rear of the field. That handed the lead over to Bare, a lead he would not relinquish as he drove on to the win. Rounding out the top five were Ryan Adams, Matt Tarbox, Corey Almond and Camden Testerman. The win by Bare makes it three different winners in three races. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman it only took six laps for Tim Shelton to grab the lead away from Joe Weiss, but those were six hotly contested laps. Once out front though Shelton was able to pull away to grab the win. Rounding out the top five were Weiss, Matt Meads, Steve Causey and Tyler Shipp. Shelton’s win makes it three different winners in three events. In the Budweiser Modified 30 lap feature it looked as if Francis Jarrell was going to walk away with an easy win. But on lap 11 two lapped cars spun in turn 3, collecting the leader in the process. That handed the lead over to Joey Polevoy and he took complete advantage of the situation. Once the field got back under green Polevoy pulled away from the battle for second between Tim Schulte and Chase Butler. Polevoy would cruise to the win with Schulte, Butler, twentieth starting Ryan Toole and Jeff Solinger. It may look like Marty Coltrain had an easy time in grabbing his first Collision One Limited Stock Car win in two years, but what the scorecard doesn’t show you is the amount of challenges for the lead he had to defend. Coltrain and Chad Champion led the field to green with Coltrain grabbing the lead out of turn 2. Champion tried several times to get under Coltrain to take the lead but was unable to make the pass. Trent Clemens and James Givens then made it a four car race for the lead. On lap 6 Givens took over second with a power move to the outside of both champion and Clemens in turn 2. Once in second he began to apply pressure to the bumper of Coltrain. Just behind him Corey Bradley had worked his way from his twentieth starting position to pressure Givens for second. Coltrain worked his line and kept Givens at bay to take home his first win in two years. Rounding out the top five were Givens, Bradley, Champion and Brandon Bowler. The Speedway will take next Saturday July 7th off and return to racing on Saturday June 14 and host week 8 of Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship weekly action featuring the Victory Lap Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in action.
