Strong Performance by Scott Adams Nets Victory Lap Late Model win; Maxey, Jamerson and W. Givens Also Victorious

Jamaica, VA – On Mom’s Night at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway defending Victory Lap Late Model champion Scott Adams of Chester, VA made sure he gave mom an early Mother’s Day present. Adams made a bold move on Tom Cohick of Gloucester, VA in turn 2 to take over the lead. Adams would be followed by week one winner Derick Quade and Davis Lipscombe as the trio began to pull away from the battle for fourth. Both Quade’s and Lipscombe’s night would come to an early end with mechanical failures. With Adams in complete control the action behind him was fierce as Matt Morgan, Matt Marshall, Tim Shelton and David Williams all swapped position over the final 20 laps. Nothing was going to keep Adams from victory lane, not even a broken left rear shock mount that broke with 15 laps to go. With the left rear just about dragging the track Adams powered his way to his first win of 2011. “I have to thank my dad and Bubba Hubbard for giving me such a great car, I’m just the guy that gets to drive it. This one is for my mom,” commented Adams in victory lane. Following Adams to the checkers were Matt Marshall, eleventh starting David Williams, Matt Morgan and rookie Kenny Moreland. In other action Brain Maxey of King George, VA took home his second win in a row as he made a bold three wide move on lap 8 to take over the lead. Leader Dan Arnold was working lapped traffic with page Harrison and Maxey in tow. As they raced out of turn 2 Arnold got stuck behind a lapped car while Harrison and Maxey worked to his inside. Maxey would take the lead and onec out front began to pull away from the field. With the laps winding down Arnold reeled in Maxey but could never get close enough to mount a serious challenge as Maxey would go on to take the win followed by Arnold, Bret Hamilton, Page Harrison and Brandon Galloway. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 25 lap feature the race for the lead was a five man battle until the very end. Roger Jamerson of Mechanicsville, VA would take the lead on the first circuit but would have to hold off several strong challenges by Taylor Doggett, Todd Traylor and Tony Wood. Jamerson would prevail as Wood and Doggett raced side by side for the final lap in a battle for second that Doggett won at the line. The rest of the top five went to Todd Traylor and J.R. Guy. In the Collision One Limited Stock 20 lap feature Wesley Givens of Highland Springs, VA took over the lead on lap 8 in a tight battle between six cars at the front of the field. In the end Givens was strong enough to get the victory over Ryan Toole who made a last lap dash from third for the lead to finish just .361 seconds in second. Ricky Douglas, Brett Adkins and James Givens rounded out the top five. Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway returns to action Saturday May 14th and will host NAPA of Saluda Night featuring four divisions of Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series action. See the Victory Lap Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modifies and the Collision One Limited Stock divisions. Come experience the raw, pure excitement that is dirt racing! Competitor gates for Saturday, May 14th will open at 4pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm with hot laps. Derrick Quade Picks Up First Late Model Victory at Virginia Motor Speedway; Maxey, Traylor and Toole also pick up wins

Jamaica, VA – It looked like having the lead in the Victory Lap Late Model 35 lap feature at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway spelled disaster for anyone that had lead. David Williams, Davis Lipscombe and Matt Marshall all held the lead only to have mechanical issues. But once Derick Quade took over the lead on lap 28 he wasn’t going to let anything take away a shot at victory. The six place starting Quade had worked extremely hard to get to the front and was pressuring marshall for the lead when Marshall spun in front of him on lap 28. The victory wouldn’t come easy as he had to hold off the track’s defending champion Scott Adams of Chester, VA in the waning laps to take his victory at Virginia Motor Speedway....

Shaver’s Strategy Leads To Convincing $25,000-Plus Victory In Commonwealth 100; Neat Wins Rumble

JAMAICA, VA – April 17, 2011 – Steve Shaver’s plan worked to perfection in Sunday afternoon’s rain-delayed NAPA of King William ‘Commonwealth 100’ at Virginia Motor Speedway. The 47-year-old veteran from Vienna, W.Va., grabbed the lead from Steve Francis of Ashland, Ky., on lap three and never wavered for the remainder of the distance. He calmly conserved his tires while repelling a pair of threats en route to a World of Outlaws Late Model Series victory worth $25,050. “Our goal was to get the lead early and just try to fend off any challenges, and that’s what we did,” said Shaver, who started fourth driving a Rocket car from the stable of North Carolina’s storied K&L Rumley team. “I just tried to aim for the brown (in the racetrack) and not spin the tires to keep from wearing them out.”...

Virginia Motor Speedway 2011 season Just Around the Corner; Commonwealth 100 advance ticket deadline approaching

Jamaica, VA – It won’t be long before the roar of engines can once again be heard on Saturday’s at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway as competitors will get the chance to dial in their rides for the 2011 season as the speedway will hold a “Test & Tune” open practice for all divisions Saturday, April 2nd. Gates will open at 9am for competitors with on track action to begin at 11:30am. Fans are invited to come out and watch open practice to see all the new cars and paint schemes. There will be no charge for grandstand admission for open practice. Anyone wanting to visit the pits will be required to buy a pit pass. Pit passes will be $20 per person. All cars must be inspected before they will be allowed to practice. Registrations are currently being accepted with all numbers being given out on a first come first served basis. Competitors can obtain a 2011 registration form by going to the tracks website or by calling the speedway Monday through Friday 10am through 3pm at (804) 758-1867....

2011 Rules Packages Are Now Posted; 2011 Driver Registrations Currently Being Accepted

Jamaica, VA – Rules packages for all four of the speedway’s divisions are now posted under the “Drivers” tab on navigation bar. The only two divisions that will see any changes will be the Budweiser Modifieds and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars. All competitors should download a copy of their division rules and the 2011 VMS General Rules package. Driver registrations are currently being accepted with the top twenty in each class having their number saved until February 1st when all numbers will become first come first served. Competitors can obtain a 2011 registration form by going to the “Drivers” tab on the navigation bar or by calling the speedway Monday through Friday 10am through 3pm at (804) 758-1867....

Speedway Making Improvements To Facility

Jamaica, VA – With the 2010 racing season in the rear view mirror and the 2011 season just months away the staff at Virginia Motor Speedway is still hard at work as they prepare the facility for the 2nd Annual Commonwealth 100 that will open the track’s 42nd season on April 15-16, 2011. The speedway has undertaken several new construction projects in preparation of the 2011 season. All will enhance the racing experience for our fans and competitors. Included in the projects are a new set of restrooms to be constructed near the turn four section of the main grandstands, a new registration and tech building in the competitor parking area, new back stretch billboards and a new eight acre parking area for RV’s and campers....
