Speedway to Host VA National Guard “Salute to the Fallen” Tribute Night Saturday July 26th; All Military Active or Retired admitted free

Jamaica, VA – Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway returns to racing on Saturday July 26th for VA National Guard “Salute To the Fallen” Tribute Night. The night will feature the Victory Lap Late Model, Aaron’s Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in the fan favorite “Twin Race” format. All five Virginia National Guard Dirt Series divisions will run two features each making for an exciting night of racing. To honor our military the speedway will admit all military personnel active or retired with proper ID free. The night’s events will honor the ten Virginia Army National Guard soldiers lost in combat. The Virginia Army National Guard will have several displays of which will include a special wrapped race car, designed by high school students, honoring those lost in combat. Also on hand will be Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s #88 National Guard Chevrolet for fans to see up close and get pictures. A pit crew challenge will also be on hand for fans to test their tire changing skills. Competitor gates for Saturday July 26th will open at 4pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm with hot laps and features will start at 8pm. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday: Victory Lap Late Models (Twin 15 Laps); Aaron’s Pro Late Models (Twin 15 Laps); Budweiser Modifieds (Twin 15 Laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (Twin 15 laps) and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars (Twin 12 laps). All divisions will run Hot Lap Time Trials and Features. Admission price for Adults $12, seniors (60+) $10; military (active/retired w/ proper I.D.) FREE, students 13 – 17 years old $6, children 7 to 12 $4 and children 6 and under admitted free. We offer a family pass for $25 (two adults and two children 12 and under). Pit passes will be $20. Twin Feature Night Produces Nine winners in Ten Races

Jamaica, VA – It was a tale of two stories in the Victory Lap Late Model twin features at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway with one driver getting his first win in ten years and the other continuing his domination of the division. In the first feature John Staton of Chesapeake, VA returned to victory lane after a ten year absence, holding off Justin Williams of Shipman, VA for the win. In the second 15 lap feature Justin Williams dominated the event for his fifth win of the season. In other action Matt Quade of Mechanicsville, MD took out the broom and swept both Budweiser Modified features. In the Aaron’s Pro Late Model division Daniel Baggerly of Rural Retreat, VA scored his second win of the season and Joe Ender of Glen Allen, VA picked up his first win in the division. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman division James Snead of Fredericksburg, VA picked up his career first victory and Hunter Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA scored his fourth win of the season. And in the Collision One Limited Stock Car division James Givens of Highland Springs, VA went flag to flag to get the win and Shawn Otey of Aylett, VA took over the lead on lap 3 on way to his first win of the season. In the first 15 lap feature for the Victory Lap Late Models John Staton and David Steel led the field to green with Staton taking the lead out of turn 2. On the next circuit Walker Arthur began his assault for the lead. On lap 8 Arthur used a slide job out of turn 4 to take over the top spot. Once out front Arthur began to pull away until a caution on lap 12 when Arthur ran over some debris sending him to the infield with a flat right rear tire handing the lead back to Staton. On the restart Justin Williams powered his way to second and looked inside and outside for a way around Staton. On the final lap Williams tried one last time out of turn 4 but Staton held on to take the win. Williams, Billy Hubbard, Stephen Childress and Buck Roadcap rounded out the top five. In the second 15 lap feature for the Victory Lap Late Models Justin Williams made sure it didn’t come down to the last lap as he took over the top spot from Petie Coffey on lap 2 then dominated the remaining laps to score his fifth win of the season. John Staton, Buck Roadcap, Stephen Childress and Anthony Kincaid rounded out the top five. Daniel Baggerly earned the victory in the first fifteen lap feature for the Aaron’s Pro Late Models as he worked his way from his seventh place starting position to take over the lead on lap 11 and go on to take the win. On the start Tyler Bare took the lead and looked as if he would run away with the win as the rest of the field tussled over the second spot. Baggerly finally muscled his way to second on lap 7 and began to reel in the leader. On lap 10 bare slide up turn 4 just enough to let Baggerly get by for the lead. Once out front Baggerly went unchallenged as he picked up his second win of the season. Walker Arthur, Neal Hudgins, Brad Rigdon and Bobby Thompson rounded out the top five. It took a couple of tries to get the second 15 lap feature for the Aaron’s Pro Late Models under way. Once under green Joe Ender grabbed the lead and looked like he would go unchallenged for the win. A caution with two to go changed that scenario as the field was bunched back on Enders bumper. On the restart Walker Arthur began working on Ender for the lead getting to his outside on the exit of turn 2. At the white flag Ender had both Arthur and Daniel Baggerly within striking distance. As the three exited turn 4 Ender would hold on to take his first win in the division. Arthur, Baggerly, Neal Hudgins and Davis Lipscombe rounded out the top five. James Snead and Davey Pullen led the Truckin Thunder Sportsman to the green in the first 15 lap feature with Snead grabbing the lead out of turn 2. Once out front Snead pulled away from the rest of the field and went flag to flag to score his career first win at Virginia Motor Speedway. In the second 15 lap feature for the Truckin Thunder Sportsman Hunter Shelton grabbed the lead on lap 4 and never looked back dominating the rest of the feature to pick up his fourth win of the season with Junior Carter, Davey Pullen, Brett Adkins and Jeremiah Marshall rounding out the top five. It took seven laps for Matt Quade to take over the lead and once out front Quade set sail to take his sixth win of the season. Joey Polevoy and Brandon Galloway led the field to green with Polevoy grabbing the lead. Quade would work his way to second by the second circuit and started to apply pressure on Polevoy for the lead. Quade tried several times to get inside Polevoy and on lap 6 finally pulled to his inside taking the lead at the line. Once out front Quade pulled away for the win with Polevoy, Brian Maxey, Josh Harris and Matt Marshall rounding out the top five. In the second 15 lap feature for the Budweiser Modifieds it was much of the same as Matt Quade took over the lead from Josh Harris with a pass out of turn 4 to take the lead on lap 6. Once out front Quade pulled away to score his seventh win of the season and for the second time this season he swept both features in one night. Taylor Doggett worked his way up from his fourteenth place starting position to grab second on the last lap with Davey Pullen, Brett Adkins and Hunter Shelton rounded out the top five. In the first 12 lap feature for the Collision One Limited Stock Cars James Givens took the lead on the drop of the green flag and never looked back as he went flag to flag to pick up the win. Shawn Otey, Brandon Sandridge, Brian Bradley and Ben Lowery rounded out the top five. In the second 12 lap feature Shawn Otey took the lead on lap 3 when Andrew Tarbox slowed with mechanical issues. Once out front only a caution on lap 8 could slow Otey. On the final restart Otey pulled away from the field as Brandon Sandridge and James Givens battled for second. Otey would go on to take the win with Sandridge, Givens, Brian Bradley and Ryan Hutchens rounding out the top five. The speedway will take next weekend off so that our staff can celebrate the 4th of July holiday with their families and return to racing on Saturday July 12th for VA National Guard Dirt Series Night. The night will feature the Victory Lap Late Model, Aaron’s Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in Virginia National Guard Dirt Series action. STAR Kids night is always a special one for the speedway as the children from the Gloucester STAR program visit for a night of racing. Speedway Back in Action this Saturday May 31st for Safety-Kleen Night and Popular Twin Race Format

The night will feature the very popular “Twin Race” format for the Victory Lap Late Model, Aaron’s Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions. Chris Ferguson Holds Off Greg Satterlee for 35th Annual TireX USA 100 Victory

(Ultimate portion by Kelley Carlton) Jamaica, Virginia (May 17, 2014) – Chris Ferguson and his small family owned race team have won some big events over the years and Ferguson is generally thought of as one of the most talented drivers in the Southeast. Yet he still seemed to lack a “signature” victory. Well that was until Saturday night at Virginia Motor Speedway when the 23 year old Mt. Holly, North Carolina driver battled his way to the win in the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series sanctioned 35th Annual TireX USA 100. “This is a huge win for us. We have won a race with this kind of purse but not with this level of competition. Both of the guys that finished right behind us (Gregg Satterlee and Jonathan Davenport) are ranked among the top 25 in the country right now. And Rambo (Franklin) and Casey Roberts are 2 of the best there is in this area. So this is really up there among my biggest wins of all time.” Ferguson said in Victory Lane. The evening was kicked off with VP Race for the Pole Qualifying. Jonathan Davenport topped all entrants with a lap of 17.044 second around the big ½ mile facility. Satterlee was 2nd quick followed by Ferguson, Brandon Overton and Walker Arthur. Time trials set the fields for the two 25-lap TireX Qualifier Races. The top 11 drivers from each of the TireX Qualifier Races transferred to the 50-lap USA 100 feature. Ferguson outdueled Davenport in the first preliminary event to capture the pole position for the feature. While Satterlee scored the win in the second ahead of Overton to take the outside pole. Provisional starts went to Jeff Smith and Dean Bowen. At the drop of the green flag for the 50-lap feature Satterlee was able to outgun Ferguson for the lead off of turn 2 of the opening lap to take the point. However Ferguson wouldn’t make it easy on the Rochester Mills, Pennsylvania driver. Over the opening 5 laps Ferguson ducked inside and pulled even with Satterlee to challenge for the lead. Each time Satterlee was able to answer and keep Ferguson at bay. Satterlee was able to open up some daylight for a short time until he began to encounter back-marker traffic. The lapped machines allowed Ferguson to close back in on the leader. And on lap 11 Ferguson moved by Satterlee amid heavy lapped traffic. Satterlee slid back several positions as Davenport, Russell Erwin, Overton and Franklin all moved past the early race leader. “I just couldn’t catch a break with the lapped cars. They didn’t do anything wrong. I just caught them at the wrong times and some were running the line I needed. When I fell back I knew I had to regroup and try to get going.” Satterlee said after the event. Meanwhile Friday night’s ULTIMATE victor at County Line Raceway, Russell Erwin made his way past Overton and Davenport to take over the runner-up spot. Erwin had a fast race car and immediately began to cut into Ferguson’s advantage. As the field was approaching the halfway point of the race Erwin had caught Ferguson and was looking to make the move for the lead. However Erwin’s hopes for a weekend sweep ended on lap 24 with a large puff of smoke from under the hood of his MasterSbilt by Huey machine. Ultimately engine failure ended the Beaverdam, Virginia racer’s weekend. With the field reset for the restart it was Davenport and Franklin who stepped up to go after the leader. However when the green reappeared Ferguson was able to get away a bit as the remainder of the top 5 waged war for position. As the laps began to wane Satterlee moved up to the top and began making his way back to the front. With just 4 laps remaining Satterlee found clear racetrack between himself and Ferguson. Satterlee hammered the cushion and pulled to Ferguson’s rear deck. Satterlee kept his Rocket pinned to the high line entering turn 3 and then crossed over to put his nose inside of Ferguson. But Satterlee’s high-side charge was temporarily slowed when Ferguson moved to the top of 1 and 2 to make the move around Jeff Smith to put him a lap in arrears. Satterlee was glued to Ferguson and as the duo took the white flag Satterlee appeared poised to make his move. But as the leaders entered the final set of corners Satterlee drove in just a bit too deep and jumped the cushion. The loss of momentum allowed Davenport to sneak past for 2nd but Satterlee crossed over and made a hard charge on the bottom to recover to retake second. Up front Ferguson cruised off of turn 4 to take the 0.4 second victory. “This is just a huge win for us. I feel like I gave one away last night at County Line. I got a little impatient with lap cars and changed my line. Tonight it all just seemed to fall into place. I moved up to get by a lapper just at the right time. The bottom had started to go away and when I moved up I found a little something there in the middle and thankfully it was good enough to get us here. I can’t thank my dad Brian Conard and my brother Brandon who is my crew chief for all that they do. We really couldn’t do this if it wasn’t for them and all of my family and our great sponsors. Everybody that helps us is so important to our program. Thanks to all of these fans that came out tonight. I hope we put on a good show for them. It took three starts to get the Budweiser Modified 25 feature under way but once under green Jimmy Duncan took the lead and pulled away from the field. Eighth starting Matt Quade worked his way to the front and on lap 8 got under Duncan to battle for the lead. The two raced side by side for the next three laps before Quade would finally grab the lead out of turn 2. Once out front Quade pulled away from the field to go on to take the win followed by Ryan Toole, fifteenth starting Matt Marshall, Jimmy Duncan and Brian Maxey. Brett Adkins finally made to victory lane in the Truckin Thunder Sportsman with a pass on then leader Jeremiah Marshall on lap 13. Marshall paced the field for the first nine laps with no pressure from anyone. On lap 10 Brett Adkins finally got to the bumper of Marshall and began to pressure the rookie driver. On lap 13 Marshall made a small mistake and that was all Adkins needed to take the lead. Once out front Adkins pulled away for the win. Rounding out the top five were Hunter Shelton, Jeremiah Marshall, Davey Pullen and 12 year old Macey Causey. The Collision One Limited Stock feature came down to the final lap again. Brian Bradley paced the field with a ton of action going on behind him. On lap 12 point leader Brandon Sandridge had moved into the second and was closing on Bradley for the lead. Bradley would hold off Sandridge during several restarts after cautions. On the final lap Sandridge dove under Bradley in turn 2 to take the lead. In turn 3 Bradley tried the crossover move and got to his inside and the two raced back to the finish line with Sandridge taking the win by inches over Bradley. Rounding out the top five were Chad Champion, Matthew Cook and Stephen Childress. The speedway will take next Saturday May 26th off to celebrate the Memorial Day holiday and return to racing on Saturday May 31st for Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series Night. Speedway Increases Purse Monies in Four of Five Divisions

Jamaica, VA – In an era when most tracks are decreasing purses officials at Virginia Motor Speedway are pleased to announce that the purse in four of the five tracks Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series divisions is going up. With the early success and growth of the Aaron’s Pro Late Model division officials have introduced a new $800 to win purse for the new division. Purses in the Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Limited Stock divisions have also been increased starting with this weekend’s racing events. The next event at the speedway will be the $10,000 to win 35th Annual TireX USA 100 this coming Saturday May 17th. The night’s events will also include the Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Limited Stock divisions. Competitor gates for Saturday May 17th will open at 4pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30 pm with hot laps. Record Crowd Sees Nine Different winners in ten races on Twin Feature Night

Jamaica, VA –After a week of rain the Virginia Motor Speedway track staff did an outstanding job in getting the facilities ready for a record breaking crowd on Truckin Thunder Scout Night presented by the Virginia Army National Guard. The massive crowd was treated to some outstanding racing as the night saw nine different winners in ten features. Visiting victory lane were Justin Williams and Jared Powell (Victory Lap Late Models); Mark Parks and Tyler Bare (Aaron’s Pro Late Models); Matt Quade and Mike Reynolds (Budweiser Modifieds); Hunter Shelton (wins both Truckin Thunder Sportsman features); Brian Bradley and Brandon Sandridge (Collision One Limited Stocks). Both Victory Lap Late Model Twins were exciting. In the first 15 lapper Jared Powell and Billy Hubbard led the field to green with Hubbard taking the lead out of turn 2. On lap seven Troy Williams took over the lead with Justin Williams in tow. With Troy Williams on the bottom and Justin Williams up on the cushion the two battled nearly door to door for the next two laps before Justin Williams rocketed to the lead. Justin Williams held off a final challenge from Tory Williams with two laps to go to go to score the win. In the second feature for the Victory Lap Late Models Powell and John Staton led the field to green this time Powell took the top spot and pulled to a three car advantage on the field. It took eighth starting Justin Williams to use the cushion again to make his way to second. Once in the runner-up spot he began putting pressure on Powell for the lead. With two to go Williams pulled to the outside of Powell in turn 1 only to have the door shut. Williams would not give up and road the cushion in turns 3 and 4 to pull even as the two came to the white. The two raced side by side all the way back to the checkers with Powell holding on at the line by .048 seconds. In the Aaron’s Pro Late Models Neal Hudgins and David Puckett led the field to green with it going four wide into turn 2. When the smoke cleared it was Hudgins with the lead. His run at the front was short lived as third generation driver Tyler Bare took the lead on lap 2. Bare looked to be in control with Daniel Baggerly, Mark Parks, Bobby Thompson all within striking distance. Coming out of turn 4 Bare’s ride pushed up the track allowing Parks to get by and go on for the win with Thompson on his bumper for second. In the second feature for the Aaron’s Pro Late Models Bare and Baggerly would lead the field to green with Bare taking the lead out of turn 2. Bare would lead flag to flag but would have to hold off a late charge by Baggerly to take his first career win at Virginia Motor Speedway. In qualifying Baggerly set a new division track record with a lap of 18,488 seocnds breaking his week old mark. In the first Budweiser Modified twin Mike Reynolds and Joey Polevoy led the field to green with Reynolds securing the top spot. Reynolds would have Matt Quade trying multiple lines over the next ten laps trying to get by for the lead. On lap 10 Quade used the cushion in turn 1 to get by Reynolds for the lead and would go on to the win. In the second Budweiser Modified feature it was all Mike Reynolds as he started on the pole and led every lap in dominating fashion to get the win with Joey Polevoy holding off matt Quade for second. It was the same story in both Truckin Thunder Sportsman features as Hunter Shelton held off fierce challenges from Brett Adkins to take home both features. In the second twin Shelton had to come from eighth to get the win. In the first Collision One Limited Stock Car Brian Bradley inherited the lead with leader Matthew Cook came to the pits under a caution with mechanical problems. Once out front Bradley was able to hold off David Bowler and Andrew Tarbox for the win. In the second twin Chad Champion led the first three laps before Brandon Sandridge took the spot away with a strong pass out of turn 2. Once out front Sandridge kept a comfortable lead all the way to the checkers with Tarbox closing for second. Twin Features for all Five Divisions this Saturday May 3

Jamaica, VA – Virginia Motor Speedway will return to racing this Saturday May 3rd to host Truckin Thunder Scout Night presented by the Virginia Army National Guard. The night will feature the “Twin Race” format for the Victory Lap Late Model, Aaron’s Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions. The night will also feature the 3rd Annual Dirtwood Nationals Pinewood Derby. Gates will open at 3pm for registration with the Dirtwood National Pinewood Derby starting at 4pm. The Virginia Army National Guard will also have a “Pit Crew” Challenge set up under the grandstands for all in attendance to participate. Competitor gates for Saturday May 3rd will open at 3pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm for hot laps. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday: Victory Lap Late Models (Twin 15 Laps); Aaron’s Pro Late Models (Twin 15 laps); Budweiser Modifieds (Twin 15 Laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (Twin 15 laps) and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars (Twin 12 laps). All divisions will run Hot Lap Time Trials and Features. Admission price for Adults $12, seniors (60+) $10; military (active/retired w/ proper I.D.) $8, students 13 – 17 years old $6, children 7 to 12 $4 and children 6 and under admitted free. We offer a family pass for $25 (two adults and two children 12 and under). Pit passes will be $20. All Scouts (Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Girl Scout) in uniform will get in free, this includes Scout Masters. To enhance the fans racing experience the speedway has installed a short wave FM transmitter and all of the evening’s action can be heard at 95.5 FM.
