SCOTT BLOOMQUIST WINS 4TH USA 100; BENJI HICKS INHERITS FASTRAK PRO LATE MODEL WIN

(Contributing Writer: Roby Helms – FASTRAK PR) Jamaica, VA – Despite dropping a cylinder on lap 23 of the 60 lap feature, Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN swept the 41st Annual USA 100 presented by Commonwealth Motorsports for the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series at Virginia Motor Speedway on Saturday night. Bloomquist was the Fast Qualifier, won his eight-lap Heat Race, and then led all 60 laps to claim the $20,000 top prize. The win now lists Bloomquist as the only four-time winner of the USA 100, and he seemed really impressed that is was his first career win with the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series, after racing many times with the Regional series. “I think we might have burned up a spark plug wire when we lost the cylinder, but the car was still fast, and those seven cylinders left gave all of the traction I needed,” Bloomquist said. “I didn’t realize I had never won a race with the ULTIMATE Series until tonight, so that’s something impressive.” Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL and Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA battled side-by-side on the last lap of the race for the second spot, making contact on the backstretch as they headed to the checkers. Pearson finished second with McDowell taking third. Rounding out the top five were rookie Tyler Millwood and 22nd starting Kenny Moreland. In other action Benji Hicks of Mount Airey, NC took home the victory in the Fastrak Racing Series “USA 100” Pro Late Model portion of the event after Ross Bailes was light at the scales. Hicks victory was worth $3,000. Ryan Montgomery, Justin Williams, Tyler Bare, and Logan Roberson rounded out the top five finishers. Bloomquist took the lead at the drop of the green flag to start the race, but Ross Bailes of Clover, SC spun in turn four to bring out the first of four caution flags. That necessitated a complete restart, and Bloomquist again took the lead followed by Pearson, McDowell, Ferguson and Greg Satterlee. Ferguson passed McDowell for the third spot on lap two, while Bloomquist began to pull away from Pearson, but that was void when the caution flag came out on lap seven when Austin Hubbard of Seaford, DE stalled in turn four to light up the yellow caution bulb. Bloomquist led Pearson, Ferguson, McDowell, Satterlee, Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA, Bailes, Millwood, Justin Williams of Concord, VA, Hollidge for the double-file restart. Satterlee got by McDowell for the fourth spot on the restart, as the field raced under green flag conditions for one lap before Jackie Boggs of Grayson, KY spun in turn four on lap eight to bring out the third caution flag. After the restart, McDowell reclaimed the fourth spot by passing Satterlee on lap ten. Satterlee would race for six more laps before falling off the pace and parking his race car in the infield pit area. Davenport lost a driveshaft from under his Barry Wright house car on lap 18 to bring out the final caution flag of the race. When the field went back to green flag action, Bloomquist opened up a half straightaway lead on Pearson, who had raced his way back up to second. Coming by the front straightaway grandstands on lap 23, the note of the engine under the hood of Bloomquist’s race car went off song, but not only was he able to maintain his lead over Pearson, he opened it up even more! Not even lapped traffic would slow Bloomquist down. At the halfway point, Bloomquist led Pearson, McDowell, Millwood, Ferguson, Moreland, Erwin, Hollidge, Bailes and Dohm. In the last ten laps of the race, Bloomquist opened up a big lead over Pearson, who was beginning to feel the heat from McDowell. The second and third-place drivers battled side-by-side for the last to laps of the race, while Bloomquist took a 4.207 second margin of victory under the checkered flag. Matthew Nance took the lead at the start of the FASTRAK Pro Late Model main event followed by Walker Arthur, Bare, Williams, and Ross Bailes. After starting 11th, Bailes was on a mission, as he passed Williams and Bare to move up to the third spot on lap five. The first of five caution flags slowed the field on lap 11 when Darrell Dow hit the turn two guardrail. Nance led Arthur, Bailes, Williams, Hicks, Roberson, Knight, Quade, Montgomery and Ford down for the restart, with Bare on the tail of the field after pitting. Bailes and Hicks got by Arthur to move up to second and third respectively after the restart. Roberson spun in turn four and out of the fifth spot on lap 15 to bring out the second caution flag. When the field went back to green flag action, two battles at the front of the pack developed. Nance and Bailes went at it for the lead, while Walker came back to challenge Hicks for the third spot. Hicks hung on to third by lap 17, but the battle for the point stayed hot and heavy. Bailes was able to get an inside run on Nance coming off the fourth turn on lap 20, and took the lead at the scoring loop under the flagstand where the crossed flags were being displayed to signal the halfway point in the race. Nance then began to back up to Hicks in third, with Hicks taking second on lap 22. Arthur spun out of the fourth spot in turn four on lap 23 to light up the yellow bulb for the third time in the race. Bailes led Hicks, Nance, Williams, Montgomery, Ford, Almond, Quade, Davis Lipscombe and Roberson down for the restart. Montgomery and Ford got up on the wheel, as they both leapfrogged Williams and Nance to move up to third and fourth respectively when the green flag came back out of the restart. Williams was able to work his way around Nance for the fifth spot, and then passed Ford for the fourth spot in lap 26. Dow brought the caution flag out on lap 28 with a spin in turn four. The top ten for the double-file restart was Bailes, Hicks, Montgomery, Williams, Ford, Nance, Roberson, Almond, Bare, and Quade. Williams passed Montgomery for the third position on the restart, but Montgomery retook the spot on lap 30. A three-car tangle in turn three on lap 31 involving Troy Frazier, Carl Vaughan, and Tyler Hoy brought out the final caution flag of the race on lap 31. With the race inside of ten laps to go, it was a single-file restart. On the restart, Hicks got a run on Bailes down the front straightaway. Bailes took his normal line into turn one on the high side of the track, while Hicks drove hard to the bottom of the track in turn one. Hick’s momentum had him sliding in the front of Bailes in turn two, but Bailes made a hard left, and drove back under Hicks to retake the lead he would never relinquish. “I knew my only chance to win the race was to drive as hard as I could into turn one and hope I had enough right-front tire left to make it work,” Hicks said. “I needed a little more tire than what I had, so he was able to drive back around me for the lead while I tried to keep the car out of the fence.” The Speedway will return to racing next Saturday June 10th and host Northern Neck Chevrolet Night and week 6 of the Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship weekly racing action featuring the Victory Lap Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions. Admission price for adults is only $12, seniors (60+) $10; military (active/retired w/ proper I.D.) $8, students 11 – 17 years old $6 and children 10 and under admitted free. Pit passes will be $20. Competitor gates for Saturday June 10th will open at 4pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm with hot laps. Speedway to host the 41st Annual USA 100 presented by Commonwealth Motorsports Saturday June 3rd

Jamaica, VA – After a very successful King of the Commonwealth in April the excitement level for the Saturday June 3rd Ultimate Super Late Model Series sanctioned 41st Annual USA 100 presented by Commonwealth Motorsportsis running high. The $20,000 to win even will see some of the region’s top dirt late model talent in action and if that wasn’t enough there is also a $3000 to win FASTRAK Racing Series Pro Late Model event as the companion race, making this a must see event for late model fans. “We can’t wait for the USA 100 after seeing all the phenomenal racing during the King of the Commonwealth, three and four wide in every corner had the crowd on their feet, and with $20,000 on the line again we know that the racing is going to be just as good or better,” commented track owner Bill Sawyer. “Sawyer added, “if you miss this event you may miss what may well be considered the best race of 2017.” Joining the Ultimate Super Late Model Series once again will be a $3000 to win FASTRAK National Tour event for Pro (Crate) Late Models. Multiple Records Fall During 10th Annual Mud Mayhem Mud Bog

Jamaica, VA – The Pit at Virginia Motor Speedway hosted the first of two Mud Bog and Mud Sling’s for the 2017 season this past Saturday May 20th. The Mud Mayhem Mud Bog presented James River Equipment, Commonwealth Motorsports and Essex Concrete and in part by Aaron’s, Atkins Petroleum & Propane, After Hours Fabrication, Collision One and Truckin Thunder drew a huge crowd and great field of competitors at the state of the art mud bog facility in Jamaica, VA. The sunny temperatures and sunny skies provided a tremendous day for mud bogging. 68 different competitors took turns at the state of the art 200 foot pit for a total of 146 completed passes. Winners in each class: Super Stock A – Casey Coates in Doin’ It Dirty; Super Stock B – Tracy Hare in Twisted Jiblet; Modified A – Blake Messer in Whiskey Bent; Modified B – Ray Atkins in Haulin’ Gas; Pro Mod A – Spence Messick Jr. in Mud Runner; Pro Mod B – Lee Sturgis in The Grey Ghost; Unlimited Bog – Colton Shell – Big Bad Wolf; Unlimited X Tractor – Matthew Underwood in Hells Bells; Obstacle X – Matthew Underwood in Hells Bells; X Cuts – Dale Ellenberger in Touch of Madness; and XX Paddles – Dale Ellenberger in Touch of Madness. In the Mod B division Ray Atkins in Haulin’ Gas lowered the record he has held since June of 2014 with a 4.305 second pass and in the Pro Mod B division Lee Sturgis in The Grey Ghost set the new division track record with a 3.991 second pass besting the previous record set in October of 2015. 10TH Annual Mud Mayhem Mud Bog Kicks off 2017 Mud Bog Season at The Pit This Saturday May 20th

Jamaica, VA – The Pit at Virginia Motor Speedway will host the first of two mud bogs for the 2017 season this Saturday May 20, 2017. The 10th Annual Down & Dirty Mud Mayhem presented by James River Equipment, Commonwealth Motorsports and Essex Concrete will kick off the 13th season for The Pit at Virginia Motor Speedway. Additional sponsorship provided by Aaron’s, Atkins Petroleum & Propane, After Hours Fabrication, Collision One and Truckin Thunder. There will be eleven classes of “Mud Maniacs” in action ranging from super stock to unlimited with cash payouts in all classes. Competitors are encouraged to visit www.thepitatvms.com for the rules packages and payouts. Adding to the excitement the Unlimited X Tractor and Obstacle X divisions will run a newly designed short course of which the divisions will run for time. Not only will fans get to see hordes of trucks splashing through the 200 foot Mud Bog pit but they will also get the opportunity to see some of the regions best Mud Dragsters covering the 200 foot Mud Sling pit in under three seconds. Gates and registration will open at 9am with single eliminations for Super Stock A, B; Modified A (Small tire), B (Big Tire), Unlimited Bog, Unlimited X (Tractor tire), Obstacle X (open tire), Pro Modified A, Pro Modified B and X, XX classes beginning at 12 noon. Justin Williams Returns to Victory Lane in Pro Late Model Action; Brett Adkins, Joey Polevoy and James Givens Also Score wins

Jamaica, VA – In front of a packed house on Truckin thunder Scout Night at Virginia Motor Speedway, Justin Williams of Concord, VA gained a bit of redemption after finishing in the runner-up spot the last two races in the Victory Lap Pro Late Models by putting on a clinic on way to his second win of the season. After taking the lead on lap 3 in all came down to the final restart on lap 33 of the 35 lap feature. Williams would hold off Logan Roberson of Waynesboro, VA over the final two circuits to grab the victory. “The track was great tonight, I could run anywhere on the track I needed to go. I have to thank my crew for giving me such a great race car,” commented Williams in WhosYourDriver.org Victory Lane. Williams set fast time but started fourth due to the invert but quickly made his way to the lead passing Jared Powell on lap 3. Once out front Williams would pull away to a comfortable lead. By lap 28 Williams was working heavy traffic going 3-wide at times to stay out in front. The best race of the night was behind him for second and Logan Roberson and Matt Quade traded the spot on multiple occasions before Roberson settled into the spot with three to go. On the final restart Roberson would get inside Williams in turn 1 but Williams powered off the next corner to keep a slight advantage and go on to the win. Rounding out the top five were Roberson, Quade, Stephen Childress and Jared Powell. In other action Joey Poelvoy of Powhatan, VA made it three Budweiser Modified wins in a row; in the Truckin Thunder Sportsman Brett Adkins of Saluda, VA picked up his second win of the season in a tight battle with Time Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA who set a new division track record in qualifying and in the Collision One Limited Stock Cars it was James Givens of Henrico, VA with his first win of the season over defending champion Ryan Hutchens of Providence Forge, VA. In the Collision One Limited Stock feature fast qualifier James Givens worked his way methodically from his sixth place starting position taking over the lead on lap 11 with a pass on Cory Bradley out of turn 4. Givens would hold off a late charge by Ryan Hutchens in the closing laps to grab the win. Givens started the 25 lap feature sixth due to the invert and on the drop of the green began his march to the front. Givens began his march to the front one position each lap until getting past leader Cory Bradley on lap 10 out of turn 4 for the lead. Once out front Givens only had to hold off a hard charging Hutchens for the win. Rounding out the top five Ryan Hutchens, Cory Bradley, Ernie Dettbarn and Marty Coltrain. In the Budweiser Modified feature Joey Polevoy had to start eighth due to winning the last two events in a row but that didn’t stop him from getting to WhosYourDriver.org Victory lane for the third time in a row. Polevoy worked his way to second by lap after a two lap side by side battle with Mike Reynolds on lap nine. On the next lap Polevoy powered by Tim Schulte to take the lead. Once out front Polevoy pulled away from the field and went on to score his third win in as many tries this year. Rounding out the top 5 were Schulte, Mike Reynolds, Lance Grady and Josh Roberson. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman feature Brett Atkins and Tim Shelton put on a show for the majority of the 30 laps racing much of it side by side. Atkins took the lead on the opening lap and paced the field with Shelton in tow. The traded the lead four times over the 30 lap distance and had the capacity crowd on their feet. The two worked through traffic sometimes 3-wide. Adkins would hold on for his second win of the season with Shelton, Steve Causey, Chad Beahr and Brandon Sandridge rounding out the top five. Truckin Thunder Scout Night and 6thAnnual Dirtwood Nationals Pinewood Derby This Saturday May 6th

Jamaica, VA – If you have ever been involved in a pinewood derby you know how exciting it is not only for the kids but for the adults. Saturday May 6th Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway will bring that excitement and fun back to the speedway as it hosts the 6th Annual Dirtwood Nationals Pinewood Derby as part of Truckin Thunder Scout Night. “We are extremely excited to once again host this event and to help raise money and awareness for ChildHelp. We have to thank Tom and Judy Brooks of Truckin Thunder for the amount of effort they put into this event and for being such a great sponsor,” commented General Manager Clarke Sawyer. Speedway to Host Week 3 of Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship Action This Saturday April 22nd

Jamaica, VA – This Saturday April 22nd Virginia Motor Speedway will host week 3 of the Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship weekly racing action featuring the Victory Lap Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions. After two weeks of championship action the rivalries are heating up early this year. Both Tyler Bare of Rockbridge Baths, VA (Victory Lap Pro Late Model) and Joey Polevoy of Powhatan, VA (Budweiser Modified) both have back to back victories to start the 2017 season. Both drivers will not be able to start any closer than eighth this weekend due to the track’s two win in a row rule. It should make for a very exciting night of racing. The Truckin Thunder Sportsman and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions have been ultra-competitive and will be exciting to watch this Saturday once racing resumes. Bare Holds off Williams in Epic Battle for the Pro Late Model win; Polevoy and Shelton also Pick Up Wins

Jamaica, VA – In what may turn out to be the race of the year only two weeks into the 2017 season Tyler Bare of Rockbridge Baths, VA held off Justin Williams of Concord, VA for the win at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway. Bare and Williams battled 3-wide through traffic, throwing slide jobs on each other at both ends of the track for the lead. Bare finally secured the lead for the final time with a slide job on Williams in turn 2 on lap 33 of 35 to go on to the win. Bare and Stephen Childress led the field to green with Bare take the top spot out of turn 2. On lap 6 Childress brought out a caution as he tried getting to the inside of Bare for the lead out of turn 4. That put Justin Williams on Bare’s bumper for the restart. On under way the two began to pull away from the field as they jostled for the lead. On lap 7 Williams got under Bare out of turn 4 to take the lead by inches at the line. Williams would hold the lead until lap 15 when Bare would get inside Williams in turn 1 trapping him behind a lapped car. Bare would slide up in front of Williams and the two made contact. Williams finally got back to Bare’s bumper on lap 21 picking him up and caring him down the frontstretch. Bare was able to keep control of his car and the lead. The two then raced through traffic at times 3-wide as they battled for the lead. On lap 33 Williams through a slide job on Bare in turn 1 only to have Bare pull a crossover move to regain the lead out of turn 2. Bare would go on to score his second win in a row with Williams following closely in second. Matt Quade, Davis Lipscombe and Corey Almond rounded out the top five. In other action Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA took the lead from Joe Weiss of Elizabeth City, NC on lap 23 of the 30 lap Truckin Thunder Sportsman feature to grab the win; in the Budweiser Modified 30 lap feature Joey Polevoy of Powhatan, VA scored his second win of the season while Mother Nature took the Collision One Limited Stock feature. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 30 lap feature it was the Joe Weiss and Tim Shelton show. Weiss led the first circuit with Shelton on his bumper. Weiss held the top spot with Shelton behind him using every bit of the track to try and find a line around the leader. The two battle three wide through traffic on several occasions with Weiss holding on to the top spot after each challenge. The two went three wide with a lapped car out of turn 4 on lap 23 allowing Shelton to get by for the lead. Once out front Shelton would pull away and take the win with Weiss, Chad Beahr, Brett Atkins and Michael Hayes rounding out the top 5. In the Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature Tim Schulte and Jeff Solinger led the field to green with Solinger leading the first circuit. On a lap 2 restart Solinger would spin in turn 4 while leading handing the lead to Schulte. Schulte would hold the top spot until Joey Polevoy finally worked his car to the inside of Schulte for the lead out of turn 4. Once out front Polevoy would cruise to his second win of the season. Schulte, Mike Reynolds, Francis Jarrelle III and David Kendall rounding out the top five. As the Collision One Limited Stock Cars were taking the track for their 25 lap feature the rains came pouring down forcing officials to reschedule their feature for another date to be announced.
