Redemption for Billy Hubbard with Pro Late Model Win at Virginia Motor Speedway; Arnold, Adkins and Bradley also take Wins

Jamaica, VA – The last time Billy Hubbard of Cobbs Creek, VA came across as the winner in the Victory Lap Pro Late Models at Virginia Motor Speedway the win was taken away due to being three pounds light at the scales. This time Hubbard would clear scales and score a measure of redemption with a convincing win over Justin Williams of Concord, VA. Hubbard would grab the lead on the opening lap and then had to survive several restarts before taking the win. “This feels good to get back to victory lane after what happened at the last race; we were light, and that’s the rules, but we learned something, and hopefully it means good things for us the rest of the season,” commented Hubbard in WhosYourDriver.org victory lane. Rounding out the top five were Justin Williams, Corey Almond, Matt Glanden and Jared Powell. In other action Brett Adkins of Saluda, VA scored his first Truckin Thunder Sportsman win of the season holding off Joe Weiss of Elizabeth City, NC over the final ten laps; in the Budweiser Modified 30 lap feature Chris Arnold of Matoaca, VA pulled a slider on Francis Jarrelle of Henrico, VA to take the lead on the opening lap and taking home a convincing win over Hunter McClendon of Williamsburg, VA; and in the Collision One Limited Stock Car 25 lap feature Cory Bradley of Hopewell, VA led flag to flag to score his second victory of the season. Billy Hubbard and Matt Glanden led the Victory Lap Late Model field to green with Hubbard jumping to the lead. Two laps later Justin Williams grabbed second when Glanden slid up the track in turn 4. Three laps later Williams would begin pressuring Hubbard for the lead, each time being turned away. On lap 9 the races first caution flew for a stopped Chuck Bowie. By lap 15 Hubbard had worked to a five car length advantage over Williams and the field. A caution on lap 18 closed the field on Hubbard’s bumper for the restart. On the restart, Williams would take a shot at Hubbard only to lose the front end of his car and allow Hubbard to pull away to a four car length advantage. On lap 25 Hubbard began to close in on lapped traffic with an eight car length lead over Williams. A caution on lap 29 once again allowed the field to close on Hubbard. On the restart Hubbard would pull away by a couple car lengths only to have the caution come out again. On the restart Williams stayed close to Hubbard, at least for next lap. Hubbard then kept four car lengths between himself and Williams as he went on to score his first win since 2014. Justin Williams, Corey Almond, In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 30 lap feature Brett Adkins and Chase Burrow led the field to green with Adkins leading the first lap followed by Burrow and Joe Weiss. Adkins paced the field with Weiss working his way to second on lap 3. Weiss would close on Adkins and on lap 19 began to work inside Adkins for the lead. Multiple times Weiss would get to Adkins inside only to have Adkins hold on at the line each time. On lap 26 Weiss got a great run under Adkins in turn 2 and had a slight lead heading into turn 3. The two would touch and Weiss would let out the gas not wanting to wreck him sending him sideways and allowing Adkins to pull away. Adkins would go on to score his first win of the season followed by Weiss, Burrow, Tyler Shipp and Steve Causey rounding out the top 5. In the Budweiser Modified 30 lap feature Francis Jarrelle and Chase Butler led the field to green with Chris Arnold completing a slider in turn 3 to take the lead from Jarrelle to lead the first lap. Arnold would have to fend off Hunter McClendon late in the race after several cautions but the only thing that would slow Arnold during the night would be lapped traffic late in the race as he went on to score a convincing flag to flag win over Hunter McClendon, Brandon Galloway, Francis Jarelle and Jeff Solinger. In the Collision One Limited Stock Car 25 lap feature with Brandon Bowler and Cory Bradley leading the field to green. Bradley would rocket to the lead out of turn 2 with Bowler three car lengths back. Fast qualifier James Givens would work his way from eighth to third with an inside move on Chad Champion on lap 7. Bradley and Bowler would pull away from Givens and the rest of the field by lap 16. Best race of the night was a family feud between Chad Champion and Chris Champion as the two traded the fourth spot multiple times before Chris would hold the spot for good. No one had anything for Bradley as he went on to score his second win of the season in a caution free event. Bowler, Givens, Chris Champion and Chad Champion rounded out the top 5.
