Corey Almond Inherits Pro Late Model Checkers at the Scales; Shelton, McClendon and Givens all Repeat Winners

Jamaica, VA – What looked to be a convincing win for Billy Hubbard of Cobbs Creek, VA in the Victory Lap Pro Late Model division at Virginia Motor Speedway turned into a disappointing night when the driver was found light at the scales. Hubbard got by Kenny Moreland of Waldorf, MD for the lead on lap 2 of the 36 lap affair to take the lead on lap 3. Hubbard would dominate the night stretching his lead out several times to a full straight lead over the battle for second between Corey Almond of Appomattox, VA and Justin Williams of Concord, VA. What turned out to be for the win Almond held off several challenges by Williams over the last five laps to take home what looked like a second only to be handed the win due to the disqualification. “We hate to win like that but we will take it; I really like Billy (Hubbard) a lot and happy to see him win; if I was going to second to anybody, him or Justin (Williams), I would like him to win,” commented Almond in WhosYourDriver.org victory lane. Justin Williams, Matt Glanden, Davis Lipscombe and Jared Powell rounded out the top five. In other action Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA survived a wreck that sent him to the rear of the field only to come back through the field to take the win; in the Budwesier Modified feature Hunter McClendon of Williamsburg, VA fended off a couple of slide jobs by Chris Arnold of Chesterfield, VA in on lap 25 of the 30 lap feature to take home the win; and in the Collision One Limited Stock Car feature James Givens of Henrico, VA took the lead on the opening lap with a daring 3-wide pass scored his second win in a row. Brad Rigdon and Kenny Moreland led the 24 car field to green with Billy Hubbard making it 3-wide heading into turn 3. Moreland would exit turn 2 with the lead followed by Hubbard. On lap 3 Hubbard would take the lead from Moreland with a strong move out of turn 4 to grab the lead. Hubbard would begin to pull away with Moreland, Corey Almond, Matt Glanden and Justin Williams in tow. On lap 6 Williams got by Glanden for 4th while Almond got past Moreland on lap 13 for second. A big crash brought out the caution on lap 13 when Jonathan Raley spun in turn 1 collecting Tyler Hoy in the process. On the lap 14 restart Hubbard kept Almond behind him while Williams went inside Glanden for third. A caution on lap 18 for a stopped Kenny Moreland, tightened the field up on Hubbard’s bumper. On the restart Hubbard once again pulled away, this time by about eight car-lengths over Almond and Williams. Caution would fall again on lap 23 for the spinning car of Toby Davis. On the restart Hubbard once again got a great jump on the field again pulling away from the field. With Hubbard in control the best battle on the track was the one for second between Almond and Williams. Williams kept working Almond to the inside with Almond hold on to the spot each time. Hubbard would cross the line with what looked like a convincing win, his first at Virginia Motor Speedway since 2004, but was light at the scales handing the win to Almond. Justin Williams, Matt Glanden, Davis Lipscombe and Jared Powell rounded out the top five. In the Budweiser Modified 30 lap feature Ryan Toole and Hunter McClendon led the field to green with McClendon grabbing the lead out of turn 4. The races first caution would fly on lap 1 with a spinning Adam Hoegerl. McClendon would pace the field while Chris Arnold got past Toole for second with Andy Boahn following to third. Caution would fly for the fourth time on lap 8 when Curtis Barricks spun and hit the inside wall. On the restart McClendon pulled away from Arnold and the field and was pacing the field when another caution would fly for a wreck in turn 4 with Curtis Mason and Charlie Hubbard. On the restart McClendon would once again get a great jump on Arnold pulling two car lengths out of turn 2. On lap 25 Arnold went to throwing sliders on McClendon swapping the lead twice in the matter of two corners but caution would spoil the finish. On the races final restart McClendon would pull a couple car lengths and would hold that to the checkers picking up his second win of the season and in a row. Rounding out the top five were In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 30 lap feature Matt Ashworth and Joe Weiss led the field to green with Weiss grabbing the lead out of turn 2 on the high side. It wouldn’t take long for the races first caution to come out as Steve Causey looped it in turn 2 on the next lap. The races second caution came out on the restart with Matt Ashworth and Tim Shelton getting together in turn 2 and spinning down the backstretch. That sent the damaged car of Shelton to the rear of the field. After being the in the caution Shelton set out to get back to the front of the field picking off cars one at a time. By lap 13 Shelton had worked his way to second and the bumper of Weiss where he tried to get outside Weiss in turn 4. Weiss was able to hold on to the top spot for three more corners before Shelton would get outside and this time making the pass and taking over the lead. Once in the lead Shelton pulled away by as much as a full straight and went on to score his second win in a row. Joe Weiss, Tyler Shipp, Steve Causey and Tommy Upshaw rounded out the top five. Brandon Bowler and Cory Bradley led the Collision One Limited Stock Car 25 lap feature to green with the field quickly going three wide into turn 1 with James Givens on the outside. Givens would rocket off turn 2 to take over the top spot and lead the opening circuit. The races first caution came out on lap 5 for a spinning Raymond Harper in turn 4. On the restart Givens pulled away from the field with Bradley trying to stay within striking distance. On lap 15 the battle for the top sport tightened up when Givens came up on some slower traffic allowing Bradley a chance to get inside the leader coming out of turn 4. Givens would hold on to the top spot with Bradley and Chad Champion in close pursuit. On lap 19 the races second and final caution would come out for Marty Coltrain with a broken rear axle. On the final restart Givens pulled away and never looked back going on to score his second win in a row with Cory Bradley, Chad Champion, Trent Clemans and Brandon Bowling rounding out the top five. Brandon Overton Holds off Rick Eckert by .119 second to Score $20,000 USA 100 Victory; Carson Ferguson Scores $3000 FASTRAK Win

Jamaica, VA – In the closest finish in Ultimate Super Late Model Series history Brandon Overton of Evans, GA held off Rick Eckert of York, PA by .119 seconds to score the $20,000 win in the 43rd annual USA at Virginia Motor Speedway. Overton would take the lead on lap 21 and looked to have the race in hand that is until lap 56 when Eckert began to pressure Overton for the lead. On the final lap Eckert worked under Overton in turn 3, the two raced side by side back to the finish line with Overton holding off Eckert for the win. “I was just holding on there the last couple of laps, I guess Billy (Vacek) was riding with us tonight; I wanted to win the other night at Fayetteville but I will take this $20,000 over that $10,000 any day,” commented a very emotional Brandon Overton in WhosYourDriver.org victory lane. Rick Eckert, Ross Bailes, Zack Mitchell, and Chris Ferguson rounded out the top five. In other action Carson Ferguson of Charlotte, NC was at the right place at the right time, taking the lead when race leader Layton Sullivan blew a right rear tire coming out of turn 4 heading to the checkers to score the $3000 victory in a caution-filled FASTRAK Racing Touring Series 40 lap feature. It was Ferguson’s third touring series win in a row. Rounding out the top five were Trevor Feathers, Layton Sullivan, Corey Almond and Ryan Adams. Ross Bailes and Michael Brown led the 30 car field to green with Brown taking the lead out of turn 2 followed by Chris Ferguson. Bailes would take second back on the next circuit. By lap 5 brown had worked to a two-car length advantage. The races first caution would fall on lap 7 for a stopped Corey Gordon in turn 4. On the restart, Bailes rocketed around Brown in turn 1 and 2 to take over the top spot. On lap 9 Brandon Overton went to second with an inside pass of Brown in turn 2. By Lap 16 Overton was within a car length of Bailes as they approached lapped traffic. On lap 18 Overton was on the back of Bailes as they began to enter the lapped traffic. On lap 20 Overton made his move, getting to the inside of Bailes out of turn 2. They raced side by side until turn 4 where Overton took over the lead. Eric Erwin would bring out the caution on lap 21 as he slowed in turn 4. On the restart Overton jumped out to a quick two-car length lead while Rick Eckert went from fifth to third in two corners, getting by Chris Ferguson and Brown. By lap 30 Overton was back in lapped traffic allowing Bailes and Eckert to close. Just as it looked like things were going to get interesting Trevor Feathers brought out the third caution of the race when his car slowed going down the backstretch. On the lap 32 restart, Overton once again jumped to a three car length advantage over Bailes and Eckert. On lap 36 Casey Roberts, who had made a run from twenty-eighth to tenth, slowed on the front stretch with mechanical issues. On the lap 36 restart Overton once again got a great jump on the field as Ferguson took back third from Eckert. ON lap 42 the best battle on the track was the one for third between Ferguson, Eckert and fourteenth starting Zack Mitchell. By lap 48 Eckert had taken third and Mitchell fourth. On lap 48 the races fifth caution would fall for Jamie Lathroum who came to pit road for a flat right rear tire. On lap 49 Bailes got inside Overton coming out of turn 4, Overton would hold at the line. On the next circuit, things got really interesting as Overton, Bailes, Overton and Mitchell were all battling for the lead. On lap 53 Eckert would dive under Bailes going down the backstretch. On lap 54 caution would fall for a stopped Jeff Smith in turn 4. On the races final green Overton and Eckert would jump out to a two car length on the rest of the field. On lap 56 Eckert worked his way inside Overton in turn 4 and then again in turn 2. On the final lap Overton led Eckert into turn 2 and down the backstretch. As the barreled into turn 3 Eckert got inside Overton, as they raced off turn 4 they raced side by side to the line with Overton holding off Eckert by .119 seconds for the victory. Heat race winners – Ross Bailes, Michael Brown, Chris Ferguson and Daulton Wilson. In the FASTRAK Touring Series, 40 lap feature Jensen Ford and Justin Williams led the 29 car field to green. The two raced side by side back to the line with Ford take the lead by inches at the line. In turn 1 Ford would get by to put some distance between himself and Williams. Ford would pace the field until lap 19 when Ford slowed coming out of turn 2 bringing out the caution. On the restart, Williams got a good jump on the field with Logan Roberson and Trevor Feathers in tow. A big crash involving seven cars on lap 26 would bring out a red flag for clean-up. It took five times to get the race restarted on lap 25 but once it did Williams began to pull away. On lap 34 Williams’ night came to an end when he blew a right rear tire sending him to the infield. That started the beginning of flat right rear tires going flat. First Trevor Feathers just after taking over the lead on the caution on lap 35, then Kyle Lear amongst others. Layton Sullivan would lead the field to green for the final time and looked to have his first career win only to blow a right rear tire coming out of turn 4 to the checkers, which allowed Carson Ferguson to take the $3000 victory over Trevor Feathers, Layton Sullivan, Corey Almond and Ryan Adams rounding out the top five. The Speedway will take the weekend of June 22 off and return to racing Saturday, June 29th and host week 6 of Dirt Series Championship weekly racing action featuring the Victory Lap Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions. Justin Williams Makes it Two in a Row with Pro Late Model Victory; McClendon, Shelton and Givens also Visit WhosYourDriver.org Victory Lane

Jamaica, VA – Another huge field of twenty-seven Victory Lap Pro Late Models took the green flag and for the second straight week Justin Williams of Concord, VA picked up the victory. This week though it wasn’t as easy as Williams had to work through lapped traffic to catch Jared Powell of Charlottesville, VA to even have a chance to battle for the lead. On lap 20 of the 35 lap feature Powell would drift up in turn 2 giving Williams the chance to get by for the lead. Once out front Williams would hold a three car length cushion over Powell to the checkers. “If not for that heavy traffic I am not sure I could have gotten by Powell and Almond, my car could just drive through traffic a little easier,” commented Williams in Whosyourdriver.org victory lane. Jared Powell, Corey Almond, Matt Glanden and Davis Lipscombe rounded out the top five. In other action Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA took the lead from Joe Weiss of Elizabeth City, NC on lap 18 and then went on to scored his first Truckin thunder Sportsman of the season; hunter McClendon of Williamsburg, VA took the lead on lap 19 of the Budweiser Modified feature and never looked back to score his first win of 2019 and in the Collision One Limited Stock Car 25 lap feature James Givens of Henrico, VA grabbed the lead on the drop of the green from his fourth place start spot and went on to score his second win of the season. In the Victory Lap Pro Late Model 35 lap feature Corey Almond and Jared Powell led the 27 car field to green with Powell grabbing the lead out of turn 2. Once out front Powell put some distance between himself and the rest of the field. By lap 9 Powell began working traffic followed by Almond, Matt Glanden and Justin Williams. Williams got by Almond for second on lap 12 and set out to catch Powell. Powell and Williams worked their way through traffic with the laps winding down. On lap 18 Williams caught Powell in traffic, it took a couple of laps for Williams to find an opening but on lap 20 Powell drifted up in turn 2 allowing Williams just enough to get by. Once out front Williams kept a two car length advantage over Powell all the way to the checkers. Jared Powell, Corey Almond, Matt Glanden and Davis Lipscombe rounded out the top five. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 30 lap feature Joe Weiss and Matt Ashworth led the field to green with Ashworth taking the lead out of turn 2. Ashworth would pace the field until Weiss worked his way under him in turn 4 with the two racing side by side to the line. Ashworth would hold the spot until turn 1 when Weiss would sweep his outside to take over the lead. Tim Shelton would get by Ashworth for second on lap 10 sweeping to his outside in turn 4. It would take Shelton 10 laps to get to Weiss, one he did the two went to battling for the top spot. On lap 18 Weiss and Shelton made it three wide out of turn 4 as the two split a lapped car with Weiss down low and Shelton on the high side. Shelton would grab the lead sweeping past Weiss in turn one. Once out front Shelton never looked back cruising to his first win of the season followed by Joe Weiss, Tyler Shipp, Chase Burrow and Tommy Upshaw rounding out the top five. In the Budweiser Modified 30 lap feature Jeff Sollingoer and Jeremiah Marshall led the field to green with Marshall taking the lead out of turn 4. Marshall would hold the lead until lap 4 when Lance Grady grab the lead. Marshall would take the lead back on the next lap only to lose it again on lap 8 when Grady got back to take over the top spot. On lap 10 Hunter McClendon and Chase Butler got by for second and third. On lap 18 McClendon slid up in front of Grady in turn 1 to take the lead followed by Butler. Once out front McClendon kept enough of a cushion on Butler to bring home the win followed by Butler, Grady, Brandon Galloway and Jeff Solinger. In the Collision One Limited Stock 25 lap feature Justin Pullen and Marty Coltrain led the 19 car field to green with James Givens grabbing the lead out of turn 2 from his fourth place starting position followed to second by Trent Clemans. By lap 5 Givens had stretched his lead to just shy of s full straight. By lap 10 Givens still held a sizeable lead over the battle for second between Clemans and Cory Bradley. On lap 13 the best battle on the track was the one for second between Clemans and Bradley. Caution would fly on lap 14 when two lapped cars got together coming out of turn 2 with Givens making it three wide to their inside. On the restart Givens jumped to a couple car length lead while Clemans worked to hold off Bradley for second. With five laps left Clemans and Bradley closed the gap to Givens to a car length. But neither driver could muster enough to get to his bumper with Givens going on to score the win. Clemans, Bradley, Chad Champion and Marty Coltrain rounded out the top five.
