Speedway Cancels Aaron’s / Pepsi Championship Night Due to Impending Tropical Storm Hermine

Jamaica, VA – With Tropical Storm Hermine on the way and with the Governor now declaring a State of Emergency officials of Virginia Motor Speedway have decided to cancel Aaron’s / Pepsi Championship Night activities. “After having the Governor declare of State of Emergency along with the amount of rain expected and the possibility of this storm being a major one in our immediate vicinity we feel it is in the best interest of our fans, racers and community that we cancel tomorrow’s events,” commented track owner Bill Sawyer. Sawyer added, “We hate that we are losing the final night of weekly racing but the safety of our fans and competitors has to be the priority.” The Speedway will take the weekend of September 10th off due to the NASCAR events at Richmond International Raceway and return to racing Friday and Saturday September 16-17 for the Aaron’s FASTRAK World Championship presented by James River Equipment and Commonwealth Motorsports weekend. Friday September 16 the speedway will host the $5000 to win World Challenge and on Saturday September 17 the $15,000 to win Aaron’s World Championship presented by James River Equipment and Commonwealth Motorsports along with the $3000 to win Southeast Modified Showdown featuring the season finale for the Southeast Dirt Modified Association....
