Speedway to host the 46th Annual Ernie Shelton’s Virginia Is For Racing Lover USA 100 this Saturday, August 6th

Jamaica, VA – The stars and cars of the Ultimate Super Late Models Series will return to Virginia Motor Speedway for the $20,000 to win 46th annual Ernie Shelton’s Virginia Is For Racing Lovers USA 100 this Saturday August 6th. After canceling the last two USA 100’s due to the COVID pandemic in 2020 and the tire shortage last year, everyone is excited to have one of the country’s oldest Super Late Model events take the green. The $20,000 to win event will see some of the region’s top dirt late model talent in action. Brandon Overton is the defending race winner, winning in 2019 in a photo finish over Rick Eckert. The USA 100 will also include the track’s Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in Dirt Series Championship weekly racing action. “The Ultimate Super Late Model Series competitors never disappoint when it comes to putting on a show for the fans, and the 2019 race was exhilarating with Brandon Overton inching out Rick Eckert for the win,” commented track owner Bill Sawyer. “Sawyer added, “if you miss this event, you may miss what may well be considered the best race of 2022.” Competitor gates for Saturday, August 6th, will open at 3 pm, with spectator gates opening at 5 pm. On-track activities will begin at 6:00 pm with hot laps. Adult tickets are just $30; senior (60+)/military $25; students 13 – 17 years old $15; and children 12 and under free. Speedway Cancels Racing Activities for Saturday, June 11

Jamaica, VA – After much discussion and thought, speedway management has decided to cancel racing activities for Saturday, June 11, due to the high probability of rain for the weekend. “We have a lot of competitors and fans who travel an enormous amount of highway miles to attend and compete in our events,” said track owner Bill Sawyer. “With the current gas prices facing our fans and competitors, we don’t want anyone to have the burden of making a long trip for nothing and spending money that need to be used on other items during the week.” The Speedway will take Father’s Day weekend off and return to racing Saturday, June 25, to host week 4 of Dirt Series Championship weekly racing. The night will feature the Victory Lap Pro Late Models, Budweiser Modifieds, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, and Collision One Limited Stock Cars. JUSTIN WILLIAMS INHERITS LEAD AND VICTORY IN PRO LATE MODEL ACTION; ARNOLD, SHELTON, AND MAXEY ALSO SCORE WINS

Jamaica, VA – Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good, on this night, Justin Williams of Concord, VA, was both. With three laps to go in the Victory Lap Pro Late model feature, race leader Ray Love Jr. Of LaPlata, MD, succumbed to mechanical issues handing a fast closing Williams of Concord, VA, the lead and the win. “We were closing on the top side with the laps winding down, it was going to be close, but I believe Ray (Love) would have been able to hold me off for the win,” commented Williams in Virginia Is for Racing Lover’s victory lane. Love and Corey Almond led the field to green, with Love grabbing the lead on the opening lap. Behind him, the race for second was three wide with Almond, Williams, and Austin Hubbard. On lap 4, Williams got past Almond for second, with Love already checked out on the field. Love worked traffic to perfection, keeping the Williams at a distance. Behind him, the race for fourth was hot and heavy between Hubbard and Trevor Collins. By lap 25, Williams had jumped to the cushion and looked to be gaining on Love with five laps to go, but on lap 27, a puff of smoke came from under the hood of Love’s #08, handing the lead and win to Williams. Rounding out the top 5 were Corey Almond, Trevor Collins, Austin Hubbard, and Matthew Hildebrand. It only took Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA, nine laps to take the lead from Matt Meads of Elizabeth City, NC, in the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 25 lap feature; once he did, Shelton only had to hold off a late charge by Tyler Shipp of Mechanicsville, VA to take the victory. Meads and Shipp would lead the field to green, with Meads leading the first lap. Shelton got by Shipp on lap on lap six and began closing in on Meads, your leader. On lap 8, Shelton went to the outside of Meads to take the lead out of turn 2. With 5 to go, Shipp took one more shot for the lead, but Shelton was able to hold him off and go on to his second victory in as many races. Shipp, Meads, Brett Adkins, and Wesley Givens rounded out the top five finishers. In the Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature, Chris Arnold of Matoaca, VA, took over the lead from Jeff Solinger of Bumpass, VA, on lap seven and went on to a dominant win. Arnold set fast time but pulled a six pill and relegated himself to starting sixth. On the drop of the green, Solinger jumped out to the lead while the battle for fourth went three-wide with Arnold, defending Champion Chase Butler, and Joey Polevoy. Arnold would take the spot and set out to reel in Josh Harris, who was running in second. On lap 4 Arnold got by Harris for second with the leader in his sights. The next two laps saw Arnold trying the outside, unable to get by, he switched to the bottom and was able to get by out of turn 2. Once out front Arnold pulled away and never looked back to score the victory. Rounding out the top 5 were Jeff Solinger, Chase Butler, Lance Grady, and Brent Bordeaux. In the Collision One Limited Stock Car 20 lap feature Brian Maxey of Fredericksburg, VA, took the lead on lap eight from Brandon Brown of Gloucester, VA, never looking back to score his second victory in a row. Once out front, Maxey was set on cruise while Bowler and Cory Bradley battled for second. With the racing behind him, Maxey went on to the win. Rounding out the top 5 were Brandon Bowler, Cory Bradley, Justin Pullen, and Jacob Buie. The speedway will take the Mother’s Day weekend off and return to racing Saturday, May 14, but this time over the speedway’s state-of-the-art mud bog facility, The Pit. Eleven divisions of mud maniacs will compete for cash and bragging rights in one of the region’s toughest mud pits. JUSTIN WILLIAMS HOLDS OFF RAY LOVE, JR FOR PRO LATE MODEL VICTORY AT VIRGINIA MOTOR SPEEDWAY; SOLINGER, SHELTON, AND MAXEY ALSO VISIT VICTORY LANE

Jamaica, VA – Defending Victory Lap Pro Late Model champion Justin Williams of Concord, VA held off fast qualifier Ray Love, Jr. LaPlata, MD to score the win on the opening night of the 2022 season. Williams’s race began by having to hold off Austin Hubbard over the first 15 laps of the 30 lap feature. Once in traffic Williams began to pull away from the field as Love made his move to take second from Hubbard. Love would take second on lap 20. The caution would fly on lap 21 to tighten the field on Williams’s bumper for the restart. Williams would get a good restart pulling Love by a couple of car lengths. The distance between them would disappear as Love began to reel in Williams with the laps winding down. With five to go Love was looking inside Williams in both corners trying to find an opening. Love would not be able to find one as Williams would hold on for the victory. Rounding out the top five were Hubbard, Nick Love, and Matthew Hildebrand. In the Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature Jeff Solinger of Bumpass, VA led flag to flag to pick up the victory. TJ DeHaven of Winchester, VA kept Solinger honest by staying within a car length throughout the entire 25 lap distance. Fast Qualifier Ryan Toole would have to pull in early on lap 11 with mechanical issues after taking the fourth spot. Rounding out the top five were Rick Hulson, Lance Grady, and defending champion Chase Butler. Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA swept the night in Truckin Thunder Sportsman action by setting fast time and then leading flag to flag to score the victory. Steve Causey of Smithfield, VA would pressure Shelton for the first 21 laps before Shelton pulled away to take the victory by 3.55 seconds. Rounding out the top 5 were Matt Meads, Tommy Upshaw, and James Givens. In what may have been the most exciting race of the evening, Brian Maxey of Fredericksburg, VA held off Raymond Harper of Gloucester, VA to take home the victory by .205 seconds. Maxey would dart from his fourth-place starting spot to take the lead on the opening lap. On lap 8 Harper began to apply pressure to Maxey’s back bumper. On lap 13 Harper pulled door to door with Maxey heading into turn 3. Coming out of turn 4 Harper would spin doing a 360 and keeping his momentum going forward, but in the process losing ground to Maxey. A caution would fly and close Harper back on Maxey’s bumper for the restart. 2022 DRIVER REGISTRATION FORMS NOW POSTED

Jamaica, VA – The 2022 driver registration and driver information sheets are now updated on the website. 2020 registrations are now being accepted. Please make sure you send in all three forms when registering, as it will speed up the process on opening night April 9. You will need to fill out a Driver Registration, Driver Information Sheet, and W9. Pro Late Model drivers will also need to fill out the FASTRAK Membership forms to be eligible for regional and national points. Those should be sent directly to FASTRAK. SPEEDWAY RELEASES TENTATIVE 2022 SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Jamaica, VA – Virginia Motor Speedway officials are excited to release the 2022 schedule. It will mark the 53rd season of action at the ½ mile speed plant in Jamaica, VA. The schedule includes the always exciting VMS Dirt Series Weekly Racing action, the return of two Ultimate Super Late Model sanctioned events – the May 21st $20,000 to win Virginia is for Racing Lovers King of the Commonwealth and the August 6th $20,000 to win 46th Annual Ernie Shelton’s USA 100; the August 21st $3000 to win Prelude to the World Championship for FASTRAK Pro Late Models, and the return of the FASTRAK World Championship weekend, and two mud bogs at the facilities state-of-the-art 200 mud bog pit. The 2022 season will open on Saturday, April 9th, with Dirt Series Championship weekly racing action featuring a full program that will include the Victory Lap Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified, and Collision One Limited Stock divisions in action. The Dirt Series Champion weekly racing season will conclude on Saturday, August 27th, with the crowning of the speedway’s champions in each division.
