Mud Mayhem Mud Bog at The Pit Cancelled Due to Weather

Mud Mayhem Mud Bog at The Pit Cancelled Due to Weather

Jamaica, VA – With over 2 ½ inches of rain already and a forecast for 90% of storms both today and tomorrow, officials at The Pit at Virginia Motor Speedway have made the tough decision to cancel the 11th Annual Mud Mayhem Mud Bog presented by James River Equipment and WhosYourDriver.org. “We never want to cancel an event, but with the amount of rain we have had, and the wet weekend forecast we have to think of the safety of our competitors and fans,” commented General Manager Clarke Sawyer. Sawyer added, “The soaked grounds and rain make it almost impossible to get the competitor rigs parked as well as the aluminum grandstands becoming very slick when wet, it is all about the safety of all involved.” A special thanks to James River Equipment, WhosYourDriver.org, Aaron’s, Atkins Petroleum & Propane, After Hours Fabrication, Collision One, Gary’s Transmission and Truckin Thunder for all their support of our mud bog program. The next event for Virginia Motor Speedway will be back over at the dirt track as the speedway hosts week 5 of Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship weekly racing on Saturday June 2nd. Davis Lipscombe Goes Flag to Flag for the Pro Late Model victory; Shipp, Arnold and Givens also take Wins.

Jamaica, VA – I has been two long years since Davis Lipscombe of Mechanicsville, VA visited victory lane in the Victory Lap Pro Late Model division at Virginia Motor Speedway; the wait is over as Lipscombe led flag to flag to claim the 35 lap victory on Truckin Thunder / Northern Neck Chevrolet Night. Lipscombe held off an initial challenge by week 1 winner Mark Parks of Lynchburg, VA to grab the lead. Lipscombe held off a late challenge by Logan Roberson of Waynesboro, VA for the victory. “We almost gave up on racing, I am really glad we didn’t. It has been a tough two years but we have put a lot of effort into this car and we have come up with the needed speed we needed, it feels so good to finally be back in victory lane,” commented Lipscombe in WhosYourDriver.org victory lane. In other action Tyler Shipp of Mechanicsville, VA led flag to flag in the Truckin Thunder Sportsman feature to pick up the win; in the Budweiser Modified feature Chris Arnold of Matoaca, VA swept the outside of Joey Polevoy of Powhatan, VA on lap two to take the lead and go on to the victory; and in the Collision One Limited Stock feature James Givens of Henrico, VA made it two in a row scoring the victory with an outside pass on Chad Champion of Beaverdam, VA on lap 6. Davis Lipscombe and mark Parks led the Victory Lap Pro Late Model field to the green with Lipscombe using the bottom line to grab the lead. The two raced side by side for several laps before Lipscombe began to pull away with the lead. That left Parks to race for second with Matt Quade, Logan Roberson, Jared Powell and Corey Almond. When the dust settled it was Roberson with the second spot and working to run down the leader. Roberson made severl runs at Lipscombe but was unable to grab the lead. Lipscombe would go on to score the victory by a mere .755 seconds. Rounding out the top five were Roberson, Matt Quade, Corey Almond and Mark Parks. In the Budweiser Modified 30 lap feature Chase Butler and Joey Polevoy led the field to green with Polevoy take the lead from the outside. On the next lap Chris Arnold powered his way around the outside of Polevoy for the lead. Once out front Arnold pulled away as the battle for second heated up. Butler, Hunter McClendon, Ryan Toole and Bret Hamilton put on a great show for the fans. McClendon would take over second but was never able to get close enough to challenge for the lead. Arnold would win with McClendon, Butler, Ryan Toole and Bret Hamilton rounding out the top five. Tyler Shipp and Chad Beahr led the Truckin Thunder Sportsman field to green with Shipp grabbing the lead with a four wide battle for second behind him. Beahr, Tim Shelton, Steve Causey and Mark Gonzales went four wide on several occasions battling for second with Causey taking over that spot. Causey got close several times was unable to make a charge for the lead. Shipp would lead flag to flag to grab a very emotional win that he dedicated to his late Grandmother. Rounding out the top five were Steve Causey, Tim Shelton, Joe Weiss and Mark Gonzales. In the Collision One Limited Stock feature James Givens took over the top spot from Chad champion on lap 6 with a strong outside pass in turn 1. Once out front Givens was able to pull away from Champion, Cory Bradley and Mark Schools. Champion, Bradley and Trent Clemans traded the second spot on several occasions before Champion settled into the runner-up spot. Givens would score his second win in a row in the division followed by Champion, Bradley, Mark Schools and Randy Hutchens. The Speedway will take the Mother’s Day weekend off and return to host the first of two mud bogs for the 2018 season on Saturday May 19th with the 11th Annual Mud Mayhem presented by James River Equipment and WhosYourDriver.org. Eleven divisions of mud maniacs will be competing in the state-of-the-art mud bog facility known as The Pit. For detail visit www.thepitatvms.com.
