Jamaica, VA – 2015 Victory Lap Pro Late Model Champion Tyler Bare of Rockbridge Baths, VA left no doubt in anyone’s mind that he is a contender for this year’s championship with a very convincing win in the Pro Late Model 35 lap feature at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway. Bare would sweep the outside of Davis Lipscombe of Mechanicsville, VA out of turn 2 to take the lead on lap 3. Once out front Bare was able to fend off a couple of challenges for the top spot from Corey Almond of Appomattox, VA in the later stages of the race to score his third win of the season.

Lipscombe and Bare led the field to green with Libscombe taking the lead heading into turn 1 with Bare right on his bumper. On the next circuit Bare rocketed around the outside of Lipscombe out of turn 2 for the lead, one he would never relinquish.
Behind his the battle all race long was for the second spot as Almond, Justin Williams, Matt Quade and Lipscombe took turns in the runner up spot. Defending Champion and current point leader Williams brought out the first caution with a flat right rear tire that would send him to pit road. Williams would work his way back to fourth but could not get to the front to challenge for the lead. Two late cautions allowed Almond to make a run at bare but each time the leader was up to the task and held on to take the win. Rounding out the top five were Corey Almond, Matt Quade, Justin Williams and Davis Lipscombe.
On other action Hunter McClendon of Williamsburg, VA picked up his career first Budweiser Modified win holding off defending Champion and current point leader Joey Polevoy of Powhatan, VA. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman feature Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA grabbed the lead from Chad Beahr of Mechanicsville, VA on lap five and then held off Brett Atkins of Gloucester, VA for his second win in a row and in the Collision One Limited Stock feature Ryan Hutchens of Providence Forge, VA drove inside Chad Champion of Bumpass, VA on lap six to grab the lead and go on to score his second win of the season.
In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 30 lap feature Chad Beahr and Tyler Shipp led the field to green with Beahr taking command of the lead out of turn 2 and a four wide battle behind him for second. Tim Shelton would work his way to his bumper by lap 5 and get by for the lead out of turn 4. Once out front Shelton held a commanding lead until Brett Atkins worked his way to second. Over the remaining 20 laps Shelton would have to work to keep Atkins behind him. Shelton would go on to scor his second win of the season followed by Atkins, Joe Weiss, Chad Beahr and Steve Causey rounding out the top five.
Hunter McClendon and Lance Grady would lead the Budweiser Modified field to green with McClendon leading the first circuit in his first race of the season. While McClendon held Grady at bay current point leader Joey Polevoy worked his way to third and by lap 11 was looking to get by Grady for second. On lap 13 Polevoy would sweep around Grady for second and set his sights on McClendon. Over the remaining 17 laps Polevoy would try several lines to try and get by for the lead. Each time McClendon would hold him off and go on to score his career first victory. Rounding out the top five were Polevoy, Lance Grady, Mark Parks and Tim Schulte.
In the Collision One Limited Stock Car 25 lap feature David Bowler and Cory Bradley led the field to green with third place starter Chad Champion getting by to lead the first lap. Champion would pace the field until Ryan Hutchens would get inside Champion in turn 1 to take the lead. Once out front Hutchens would cruise to his second win of the season followed by James Givens, David Bowler and Corey Bradley rounding out the top five.
The Speedway will return to racing on Saturday July 15th and host MetroCast Night and week 8 of the Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship weekly racing action featuring the Victory Lap Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions.
Admission price for adults is only $12, seniors (60+) $10; military (active/retired w/ proper I.D.) $8, students 11 – 17 years old $6 and children 10 and under admitted free. Pit passes will be $20.
Competitor gates for Saturday July 15th will open at 4pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm with hot laps.
Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway is a ½ mile dirt oval track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in Jamaica, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads area.
