Long takes Late Model Feature with last lap pass; Maxey, Jamerson and Adkins return to victory lane.

Jamaica, VA – You don’t have to lead them all, you just have to lead the last one to get the victory and that is exactly what Stevie Long of Mechanicsville, MD did during the 35 lap Victory Lap Late Model feature at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway. Long started seventh and slowing worked his way to the front taking over second from David Williams on lap 28. On lap 31 Adams was working the lapped car of Junior Carter in turn 3 heading into turn 4 Carter broke loose and Adams ran into the back of him sending Carter spinning and bringing out the caution. That put Long on Adams bumper for the races final restart. Over the final four laps Long tried several times to get inside Adams for the lead but to no avail. Adams looked to on his way to victory when on the final lap Adams jumped the cushion in turn 3 giving Long the opening he needed to make the pass and go on to take the victory. “I’m not going to say I was settling for second but I thought Adams had us covered for the win, when he made the mistake I was in position to take over the lead and go on to the win,” commented Long in victory lane. Stevie Long Finally Gets Victory Lap Late Model Victory; Arnold, Jamerson and Adkins also get wins.

Jamaica, VA – During the month of July Stevie Long of Mechanicsville, MD had earned the name Mr. Heartbreak as he dealt with motor problems that took him out of the Championship point chase in the Victory Lap Late Model division at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway. With a victory everything changed. Tim Shelton and Tom Cohick led the field to green with Cohick leading the first circuit followed closely by Long. Two quick cautions both on lap 2 put Long right on Cohick’s bumper. On the restart Long tried to get inside Cohick but couldn’t make the pass. On the next circuit Long tried once again to get inside Cohick this time in turn 4 but once again Cohick was up to the challenge. On lap 7 David Williams joined the battle for the lead. Over the next six laps the top three looked for ways around the others. On lap 14 Long got under Cohick once again in turn 2, this time the two touched with Long coming out with the lead. On the next lap Williams would get by Cohick for second and set out to reel in the leader. On lap 18 Williams began to pressure Long for the lead. As the two raced through lapped traffic Long began to pull away. Over the final twenty laps Long worked traffic to perfection on way to his first victory of 2010. “After the month of July we had it sure feels great to finally shake the monkey off our back. The track was awesome tonight you couldn’t ask for a better surface to race on,” commented Long in victory lane. Rounding out the top five were David Williams, Matt Marshall, Scott Adams and Davis Lipscombe. In other action Dan Arnold of Petersburg, VA took home the victory in the Budweiser Modifieds. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman Roger Jamerson of Mechanicsville, VA took home the victory and in the Collision One Limited Stock Cars Brett Adkins of Gloucester, VA got the victory....

Williams Dominates on Way to Victory Lap Late Model Win; Arnold, Wood and Givens also winners

Jamaica, VA – The beginning of the Victory Lap Late Model feature at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway began with a lot of promise as Stevie Long of Mechanicsville, MD and David Williams of Avenue, MD began a side by side battle for the lead that had the crowd on it’s feet. But good things sometimes come to an end way too soon. Long and Davis Lipscombe led the stout field to green with Long leading the first circuit with Williams right on his bumper. Williams would jump to the inside of Long in turn 1 as the two raced door to door with Williams nipping Long at the line for the lead on lap 3. Long would battle back on the outside and would take the lead back by inches on the next circuit. The two raced side by side over the next three laps before the races first and only caution of the night would come out for a two car spin in turn 2. While under caution Long’s car would come to a stop in turn 4 and would need assistance getting to pit road handing the lead to Williams. Long’s promising night would come to an end as he was unable to get back on the track. On the restart Williams pulled away from Davis Lipscombe and the rest of the field. The closest Limpscombe would get would be on lap 20 as the two worked traffic but it was all Williams as he cruised to the win in convincing style. “I hated to see Stevie (Long) fall out of the race, it was a blast racing him for the lead and I think the fans would have seen a lot more of the same side by side racing if he would have not broke,” commented Williams in victory lane. Rounding out the top five were Davis Lipscombe, Sommey Lacey, Matt Marshall and Scott Adams. In other action Tony Wood of New Kent, VA would hold off Roger Jamerson of Mechanicsville, VA on the final lap to pick up his first win of 2010 in the Truckin Thunder Sportsman division. In the Budweiser Modifieds Dan Arnold of Petersburg, VA would hold off Brian Maxey of King George, VA for the win and in the Collision One Limited Stock division James Givens of New Kent, VA picked up the victory....
