Williams Scores Fourth Pro Late Model Victory; Polevoy Returns to Victory Lane; Shipp and Bradley Take Career First Wins

Jamaica, VA – It only took point leader Justin Williams of Concord, VA six laps to get to the front from his sixth place starting spot, but once out front Williams set it on cruise to go on and take his fourth Victory Lap Pro Late Model win of the season. “I can’ thank my crew enough for giving me such a good car, I just tried to stay out of trouble there at the beginning until we could get separated,” commented Williams in WhosyourDriver.org victory lane. The start of the 30 lap feature got off to a rocky start with a big pileup on the opening green flag. Once the field finally got underway Camden Testerman took over the top and paced the field for the first five laps before Justin Williams drove around him out of turn 4 to take the lead. Once out front Williams only have to survive a bevy of cautions before collecting his fourth win of the season. Rounding out the top five were Matt Quade, Camden Testerman, Jared Powell and John McClellan. In other action Joey Polevoy of Powhatan, VA scored his fourth Budweiser Modified win of the season; in Truckin Thunder Sportsman action Tyler Shipp of Mechanicsville, VA scored his career first victory taking and Corey Bradley of Hopewell, VA and James Givens of Henrico, VA put on a show in Collision One Limited Stock Car action with Bradley scoring his career first win. It looked like point leader Tim Shelton would cruise to his fifth Truckin Thunder Sportsman win in a row, but it was rookie Tyler Shipp who would craft a different story as he passed Shelton for the lead on lap 25 of the 30 lap feature to score his career first win. Steve Causey took the lead on the drop of the green and led until lap 6 win Shelton swept around him to take the lead and pull away to a sizeable lead. Shipp would slowing close the gap and on a restart on lap 21 started to apply pressure on Shelton for the lead. On lap 24 Shipp got inside Shelton coming out of two and finally pulled ahead for the lead at the line. Once out front Shipp pulled away to score his career first win. Rounding out the top five were Tim Shelton, Brett Adkins, Joe Weiss and Steve Causey. Starting shotgun on the field, current Budweiser Modified point leader Joey Polevoy made it a mission to get to the front, picking off cars one by one and taking the lead from Lance Grady on lap 12. Once out front Polevoy would have to hold off a couple of late races challenges from Hunter McClendon to take home his sixth win of the season. Rounding out the top five were Hunter McClendon, Francis Jarrelle, Tim Schulte and Mike Reynolds. The Collision One Limited Stock 25 lap feature turned out to be the best race of the night as Corey Bradley and James Givens swapped the lead back and forth four times before Bradley would take hold for the final time. The two raced virtually side by side for the entire 25 lap distance. Bradley would face one final challenge on the final lap as Givens tried to get to his outside out of turn 2, Bradley countered and went on to score his career first win. Rounding out the top five Givens, Marty Coltrain, Chris Champion and Stephanie Johnston. The Speedway will return to racing on Saturday August 12th and host Commonwealth Motorsports / Xtra 99.1 Night and week 11 of the Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship weekly racing action featuring the Victory Lap Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions. MOTHER NATURE SCORES WIN; SPEEDWAY SUFFERS FIRST RAIN OUT OF 2017

Jamaica, VA – Wet weather and the forecast for more have forced officials to cancel racing activities for Saturday April 22, 2017 at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway. “With the rain we have already had, the cooler temperatures and more rain headed our way we are forced to make this tough decision; everyone hates a rain out”, commented track General Manager Clarke Sawyer. The speedway will take the weekend of Saturday April 29th off due to the NASCAR events at Richmond Raceway. The Speedway will return to racing on Saturday May 6, 2017 for Truckin Thunder Scout Night. The night will feature the 6th Annual Dirtwood Nationals Pinewood Derby and all Scouts in uniform will get in free. Scouts, fans and competitors are all encouraged to participate. Speedway to Host Week 3 of Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship Action This Saturday April 22nd

Jamaica, VA – This Saturday April 22nd Virginia Motor Speedway will host week 3 of the Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship weekly racing action featuring the Victory Lap Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions. After two weeks of championship action the rivalries are heating up early this year. Both Tyler Bare of Rockbridge Baths, VA (Victory Lap Pro Late Model) and Joey Polevoy of Powhatan, VA (Budweiser Modified) both have back to back victories to start the 2017 season. Both drivers will not be able to start any closer than eighth this weekend due to the track’s two win in a row rule. It should make for a very exciting night of racing. Bare Holds off Williams in Epic Battle for the Pro Late Model win; Polevoy and Shelton also Pick Up Wins

Jamaica, VA – In what may turn out to be the race of the year only two weeks into the 2017 season Tyler Bare of Rockbridge Baths, VA held off Justin Williams of Concord, VA for the win at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway. Bare and Williams battled 3-wide through traffic, throwing slide jobs on each other at both ends of the track for the lead. Bare finally secured the lead for the final time with a slide job on Williams in turn 2 on lap 33 of 35 to go on to the win. Bare and Stephen Childress led the field to green with Bare take the top spot out of turn 2. On lap 6 Childress brought out a caution as he tried getting to the inside of Bare for the lead out of turn 4. That put Justin Williams on Bare’s bumper for the restart. On under way the two began to pull away from the field as they jostled for the lead. On lap 7 Williams got under Bare out of turn 4 to take the lead by inches at the line. Williams would hold the lead until lap 15 when Bare would get inside Williams in turn 1 trapping him behind a lapped car. Bare would slide up in front of Williams and the two made contact. Williams finally got back to Bare’s bumper on lap 21 picking him up and caring him down the frontstretch. Bare was able to keep control of his car and the lead. The two then raced through traffic at times 3-wide as they battled for the lead. On lap 33 Williams through a slide job on Bare in turn 1 only to have Bare pull a crossover move to regain the lead out of turn 2. Bare would go on to score his second win in a row with Williams following closely in second. Matt Quade, Davis Lipscombe and Corey Almond rounded out the top five. In other action Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA took the lead from Joe Weiss of Elizabeth City, NC on lap 23 of the 30 lap Truckin Thunder Sportsman feature to grab the win; in the Budweiser Modified 30 lap feature Joey Polevoy of Powhatan, VA scored his second win of the season while Mother Nature took the Collision One Limited Stock feature. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 30 lap feature it was the Joe Weiss and Tim Shelton show. Weiss led the first circuit with Shelton on his bumper. Weiss held the top spot with Shelton behind him using every bit of the track to try and find a line around the leader. The two battle three wide through traffic on several occasions with Weiss holding on to the top spot after each challenge. The two went three wide with a lapped car out of turn 4 on lap 23 allowing Shelton to get by for the lead. Once out front Shelton would pull away and take the win with Weiss, Chad Beahr, Brett Atkins and Michael Hayes rounding out the top 5. In the Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature Tim Schulte and Jeff Solinger led the field to green with Solinger leading the first circuit. On a lap 2 restart Solinger would spin in turn 4 while leading handing the lead to Schulte. Schulte would hold the top spot until Joey Polevoy finally worked his car to the inside of Schulte for the lead out of turn 4. Once out front Polevoy would cruise to his second win of the season. Schulte, Mike Reynolds, Francis Jarrelle III and David Kendall rounding out the top five. As the Collision One Limited Stock Cars were taking the track for their 25 lap feature the rains came pouring down forcing officials to reschedule their feature for another date to be announced. Speedway Crowns 2016 Champions; Polevoy crowned Aaron’s Dirt Series Champion

Jamaica, VA – Bill Sawyers Virginia Motor Speedway officially wrapped up the 2016 season by recognizing the top ten in each of the track’s divisions with special attention reserved for the 2016 champions. During the night’s events almost $36,000 in cash and prizes were awarded, of that almost $27,000 was in cash. Justin Williams of Concord, VA was crowned the 2016 Victory Lap Pro Late Model Champion and received a check for $5,000 for his efforts. Williams also received a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography, his Championship helmet trophy and his Champions jacket from Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic. The title was Williams fourth in a row after winning the last three Limited Late Model titles at Virginia Motor Speedway. Roger Jamerson of Mechanicsville, VA was crowned the 2016 Truckin Thunder Sportsman Champion and received a check for $1,000 for his efforts. Jamerson also received a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography, his Championship helmet trophy and his Champions jacket from Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic. This was Jamerson’s twelfth Truckin Thunder Sportsman title and thirteenth overall. Jamerson also scored his 200th win of his career during the 2016 season. Joey Polevoy of Powhatan, VA was crowned the 2016 Budweiser Modified Champion and received a check for $1,000, a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography, his Championship helmet trophy and his Champions jacket from Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic. Ryan Hutchens of Providence Forge, VA won the 2016 Collision One Limited Stock Car Championship for the second year in a row. Hutchens received a check for $700, a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography his Championship helmet trophy and his Champions jacket from Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic. The speedway also crowns an overall Aaron’s Dirt Series Champion which pits all four divisions against each other. Joey Polevoy on the strength of his four wins won the overall Championship and received a $2000 check and the special eagle trophy that goes along with winning the title. Aaron’s also presented Polevoy with a 40” Magnavox Smart LED HDTV television. Speedway to Host Aaron’s / Pepsi Championship Night this Saturday September 3

Jamaica, VA – This Saturday September 3rd Virginia Motor Speedway Aaron’s / Pepsi Championship Night and the final week of the Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship season. The night will featuring the Victory Lap Late Models, Budweiser Modifieds, Truckin Thunder Sportsman and Collision One Limited Stock Cars in action. Champions will be crowned in all four divisions. Competitor gates for Saturday September 3rd will open at 4pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm for hot laps. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday: Victory Lap Pro Late Models (30 Laps); Budweiser Modifieds (25 laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (25 laps) and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars (20 laps). All divisions will run Hot Lap Time Trials and Features.
