Adams, Traylor, Arnold and Givens crowned Champions at Virginia Motor Speedway; Traylor crowned VA Army National Guard Dirt Series Champion

Jamaica, VA – Bill Sawyers Virginia Motor Speedway wrapped up the 2011 season by recognizing the top ten in each of the track’s divisions with special attention reserved for the 2011 champions. During the night’s events almost $34,000 in cash and prizes were awarded, of that almost $28,000 was in cash. This year’s championships saw two familiar faces and two drivers picking up career first championships. Scott Adams of Chester, VA was crowned the Victory Lap Late Model Champion for the second consecutive year and received a check for $5,000 for his efforts. Adams also received an invitation to the Rocket Chassis Race Wise Chassis School, a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography and his Championship helmet trophy and jacket. Rounding out the top ten in Victory Lap Late Model points were David Williams of Clements, MD; Kenny Moreland of Waldorf, MD; Derrick Quade of Mechanicsville, VA; Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA;Davis Lipscombe of Mechanicsville, VA; Matt Marshall of Stuarts Draft, VA; Andy Gregg of Portsmouth, VA; Alan Anderson of Norfolk, VA and Brandon Long of Mechanicsville, MD. Wesley Givens of Mechanicsville, VA won the Collision One Limited Stock Car Championship. The Championship was Given’s first ever championship in any division. Givens received a check for $700, a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography and his Championship helmet trophy and jacket. Rounding out the top ten in Collision One Limited Stock Car points were Joe Ender of Glen Allen, VA; 2010 Champion Ryan Toole of Richmond, VA; Brandon Coates of Tappahannock, VA; Ricky Douglas of Fredericksburg, VA; Brandon Sandridge of New Kent, VA; 2009 Champion Brett Adkins of Gloucester, VA; Thomas Rose of Gloucester, VA; David Bowler of Gloucester, VA; and Ryan Hutchens of Providence Forge, VA. The speedway also crowns an overall Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series Champion which pits all four divisions against each other and in the closest battle in the six year history of the championship Truckin Thunder Champion Todd Traylor of King William, VA beat out Victory Lap Late Model Champion Scott Adams and Budweiser Modified Champion Dan Arnold to take the overall championship and the $2000 check and special eagle trophy that goes along with it. Special achievement award winners for the 2011 season included: The Pitts Lumber Rookies of the Year were Kenny Moreland of Waldorf, MD in Victory Lap Late Models; Junior Carter of Mechanicsville, VA in Truckin Thunder Sportsman; Aaron Harris of Chester, VA in Budweiser Modifieds and Ben Lowry of Mechanicsville, VA in the Collision One Limited Stock Car division. Each winner received a plaque and $250. The speedway’s 2012 schedule of events is expected to be released in a couple of weeks after some fine tuning. The season is scheduled to start Saturday March 31st with an open practice. This year’s $25,000 to win Commonwealth 100 will be sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and will run April 13-14, 2012 with a Sunday April 15th rain date. The Ultimate Super Late Model Series is scheduled to return on Saturday May 19th for a $10,000 to win event and the 2012 season ender will be the 33rd Annual USA 100 that will now pay $20,000 to win an become a two day show September 14 – 15th, with a Sunday Sept. 16th rain date established. Rain Forces Cancellation of Final Race of the Season

Jamaica, VA – Rain and the forecast for more thunderstorms has forced officials at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway to cancel Truckin Thunder / Collision One / WIGO Championship Night activities for Saturday, September 24th. “This is not the way we wanted to end the season, but we have run out of weekends for the 2011 season. To say we are disappointed would be an understatement, this is the second time we have had to cancel Championship Night,” commented track General Manager Clarke Sawyer. With the rain out the 2011 Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series track championships have been decided. In the Victory Lap Late Model division Scott Adams of Chester, VA wins his second consecutive late model title. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman division Todd Traylor of King William, VA wins his first title. In the Budweiser Modified division Dan Arnold of Petersburg, VA takes home his third consecutive modified title and in the Collision One Limited Stock Cars Wesley Givens of New Kent, VA will get his career first championship by one point. The top ten in each division will be honored at the 2011 Awards Banquet to be held Saturday October 29, 2011 at the Virginia Beach Convention Center in Virginia Beach, VA. On Saturday October 1st The Pit at Virginia Motor Speedway will host the 7th Annual Run-A-Muck Mud Bog and Mud Sling presented by Rappahannock Tractor and the Virginia Army National Guard. Additional sponsorship provided by Davis Off Road, Monster Energy Drinks, NAPA of King William, ORI of Richmond, Collision One and Truckin Thunder. There will be nine classes of “Mud Maniacs” in action ranging from stock to unlimited with cash payouts in all classes. New for this year’s event will be the addition of the Pro Modified class. After discussions with both competitors and fans Pit officials have added the very exciting class to the line up. Rules for the new Pro Modified division are posted on the Pit’s website by next week. Not only will fans get to see hordes of trucks splashing through the 200 foot Mud Bog pit but they will also get the opportunity to see some of the regions best Mud Dragsters covering the 200 foot Mud Sling pit in under three seconds. The event will also include a car crushing monster truck freestyle show and Dennis Anderson and his new creation King Sling will be competing in the Unlimited Bog division; that is if it is still in one piece after he goes off in the Freestyle show he has scheduled! It will be the last point race of the season for all four of the track’s Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series divisions. With all the divisional point races tight heading into the final weekend the racing should be intense. Throw in the fact that every competitor is also vying for the coveted Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series championship, which will crown an over all track champion, this will be a must see event. The night’s activities will include the Victory Lap Late Models, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modifieds and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars in Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series action. Speedway to Host Ernie Shelton’s 32nd Annual USA 100™ and Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Saturday September 17th

Jamaica, VA – Officials at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway are anxiously awaiting September 17th, that is the day the 32nd Annual USA 100™ returns to the ½ mile speed plant in beautiful Jamaica, VA. The event will once again be sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. “The last three years the twin 25’s have been phenomenal and the final 50 lap segment was just been out of this world. We couldn’t be more pleased with hosting this event, it gets better each year. This race is definitely a fan friendly event. The two 25 lap qualifiers could be features anywhere in the country. The event will once again pay $15,000 to the winner and $1000 to start the “A” Main,” concluded track General Manager Clarke Sawyer. “Adding the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series last year also took the event to another level and produced some of the best racing we have seen here at VMS,” added Sawyer. Speedway Providing Staging Area for Dominion Virginia Power Repair Crews; This Weekend’s Championship Night Postponed

Jamaica, VA – Virginia Motor Speedway continues in its efforts to help in the recovery process from Hurricane Irene. Currently the speedway grounds are being used as a staging area for Dominion Virginia Power line crews as they help in restoring power to the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck communities. Some 250 utility trucks are expected to call the pit parking area home until power is restored to the area. “Our resources, equipment and facilities are at the disposal of the local authorities. Our focus since this past weekend’s hurricane has been to help our community in its recovery efforts,” added General Manager Clarke Sawyer. “Whatever we can do to help we will do. We are all in this together and the more we help the quicker everyone will be able to get back to their normal day to day routines,” added Sawyer. Officials have also announced that Truckin Thunder / Collision One / WIGO Championship Night racing activities have been postponed until Saturday, September 24th. On that night the 2011 Championships will be decided. “With so many of our fans and competitors without power we felt it was in everyone’s best interest that we move our last weekly event so that everyone can take care of their families and property,” stated Track Owner Bill Sawyer. “With the continued State of Emergency issued by Governor Bob McDonald and with the fire and police personnel stretched to capacity this is the best decision for all,” added Sawyer. Williams takes checkers in late models; LaRouqe, Wood and Ender also get wins

Jamaica, VA – With the regular season drawing to a close, the battle for points and tempers heated up Saturday on Safety Kleen, NAPA of King William, National Guard Night night at Virginia Motor Speedway. The next to the final night of the 2011 Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series racing season set the table for the championship night on Saturday September 3rd. In what turned out to be one of the best races of the year and in a race that saw five different leaders it was David Williams of Clement, MD that survived the full contact event by taking the lead on lap 28 and going on to record his second win of 2011. “The harder they are to win the sweeter they are when you do get in victory lane, that was about has hard a win as we have ever had, the competition here is so tough so being here in victory lane is that much sweeter,” commented Williams in victory lane. Williams first battled with John Staton of Chesapeake, VA for second with the two trading paint in each corner with Williams taking over that spot on lap 24. Williams then went to work on Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA for the lead. Several times Williams tried to get inside Shelton for the lead only to have the door slammed on him each time. On lap 27 Williams finally got under Shelton out of turn 2 taking the lead he would not relinquish. Williams would have to fend off Staton several times before Staton had to work to hold off Adams who took over second on lap 31. Adams could not mount a challenge for the lead and Williams would take the win followed by Scott Adams, John Staton, Kenny Moreland and Walker Arthur. In other action Travis LaRogue of Mooresville, NC picked up his second Budweiser Modified win in a slugfest. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman Tony Wood of New Kent, VA picked up his first win of the season and in the Collision One Limited Stock Car division Joe Ender of Glen Allen, VA got his first win of the season. In the Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature Travis LaRoque and Lance Grady led the field to green with Grady leading the opening lap. Caution would fly on lap 2 for a wreck in turn 4. On the restart Grady once again pulled away to take control of the lead. With Grady out front the battle was for the second spot with John Ferguson, Travis LaRoque, Brian Maxey and Dan Arnold. Grady would get company in the form of Brian Maxey as the two battled for the top spot. Maxey would try several times to get inside Grady but each time the door was slammed. On lap 19 the two races into slower traffic with Maxey making it three wide under Grady as they raced into turn 3. The two would touch sending both spinning and to the rear of the field. On the restart the race got real interesting as Ferguson and LaRoque went to beating on each other and exchanging the top spot until on lap 23 where LaRouqe took over the top spot for good holding Dan Arnold off at the line for his second win of the season. Rounding out the top 5 were Dan Arnold, Jimmy Duncan, Neal Hudgins and Chris Arnold. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 25 lap feature Wayne Carroll and J.R. Guy led the field to green with Guy taking the lead. Guy would hold the lead until lap 9 when Tony Wood would get inside Guy out of turn 2 with Wood taking the lead at the line. Guy would try to battle back but Wood would hold him off to keep the lead. Over the final fifteen laps Wood would have Todd Traylor on his bumper but Traylor could not make a serious challenge for the top spot. Wood would go on to collect his first win of 2011 followed by Todd Traylor, J.R. Guy, Wayne Carroll and Bubba Holloway Jr. In the Collision One Limited Stock 20 lap feature Joe Ender and Brett Adkins led the field to green with Enders leading the first circuit. The battle up front was intense with Enders, James Givens, Wesley Givens and Ryan Toole all in close proximity. On lap 7 point leader Wesley Givens and Toole got hooked together bringing out the races first caution sending both to the rear. Enders would pace the field with a comfortable cushion over James Givens and David Bowler. On a lap 18 restart Bowler would get inside Givens out of turn 2 to take over second. Givens would get into him going down the backstretch sending both into the turn 3 wall. On the final restart Ender would jump out a comfortable lead over Ricky Douglas and would cruise to the win followed by Douglas, Ryan Toole, Wesley Givens and Brandon Sandridge. Jamaica, VA – Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway will return to action this Saturday August 20th and host Safety Kleen / NAPA of King William / Virginia Army National Guard / Friends of NRA Night featuring four divisions of Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series action. See the Victory Lap Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modifies and the Collision One Limited Stock divisions. Come experience the raw, pure excitement that is dirt racing! The night’s activities will include the NRA Wall of Guns raffle, hunting and boating displays by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and much more. Anyone presenting their NRA membership card or a valid hunting or fishing license will get in for $5. Also, any military personnel active or retired just show your I.D. card and get in free. Competitor gates for Saturday, August 20th will open at 4pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm with hot laps. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday August 20th: Victory Lap Late Models (35 Laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (25 Laps); Budweiser Modifieds (25 Laps); and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars (20 laps). All divisions will run Hot Lap Time Trials and Features. Admission price for Adults $10, seniors (60+) $8; military (active/retired w/ proper I.D.)
