Twin Feature Night Produces Nine winners in Ten Races

Jamaica, VA – It was a tale of two stories in the Victory Lap Late Model twin features at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway with one driver getting his first win in ten years and the other continuing his domination of the division. In the first feature John Staton of Chesapeake, VA returned to victory lane after a ten year absence, holding off Justin Williams of Shipman, VA for the win. In the second 15 lap feature Justin Williams dominated the event for his fifth win of the season. In other action Matt Quade of Mechanicsville, MD took out the broom and swept both Budweiser Modified features. In the Aaron’s Pro Late Model division Daniel Baggerly of Rural Retreat, VA scored his second win of the season and Joe Ender of Glen Allen, VA picked up his first win in the division. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman division James Snead of Fredericksburg, VA picked up his career first victory and Hunter Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA scored his fourth win of the season. And in the Collision One Limited Stock Car division James Givens of Highland Springs, VA went flag to flag to get the win and Shawn Otey of Aylett, VA took over the lead on lap 3 on way to his first win of the season. In the first 15 lap feature for the Victory Lap Late Models John Staton and David Steel led the field to green with Staton taking the lead out of turn 2. On the next circuit Walker Arthur began his assault for the lead. On lap 8 Arthur used a slide job out of turn 4 to take over the top spot. Once out front Arthur began to pull away until a caution on lap 12 when Arthur ran over some debris sending him to the infield with a flat right rear tire handing the lead back to Staton. On the restart Justin Williams powered his way to second and looked inside and outside for a way around Staton. On the final lap Williams tried one last time out of turn 4 but Staton held on to take the win. Williams, Billy Hubbard, Stephen Childress and Buck Roadcap rounded out the top five. In the second 15 lap feature for the Victory Lap Late Models Justin Williams made sure it didn’t come down to the last lap as he took over the top spot from Petie Coffey on lap 2 then dominated the remaining laps to score his fifth win of the season. John Staton, Buck Roadcap, Stephen Childress and Anthony Kincaid rounded out the top five. Daniel Baggerly earned the victory in the first fifteen lap feature for the Aaron’s Pro Late Models as he worked his way from his seventh place starting position to take over the lead on lap 11 and go on to take the win. On the start Tyler Bare took the lead and looked as if he would run away with the win as the rest of the field tussled over the second spot. Baggerly finally muscled his way to second on lap 7 and began to reel in the leader. On lap 10 bare slide up turn 4 just enough to let Baggerly get by for the lead. Once out front Baggerly went unchallenged as he picked up his second win of the season. Walker Arthur, Neal Hudgins, Brad Rigdon and Bobby Thompson rounded out the top five. It took a couple of tries to get the second 15 lap feature for the Aaron’s Pro Late Models under way. Once under green Joe Ender grabbed the lead and looked like he would go unchallenged for the win. A caution with two to go changed that scenario as the field was bunched back on Enders bumper. On the restart Walker Arthur began working on Ender for the lead getting to his outside on the exit of turn 2. At the white flag Ender had both Arthur and Daniel Baggerly within striking distance. As the three exited turn 4 Ender would hold on to take his first win in the division. Arthur, Baggerly, Neal Hudgins and Davis Lipscombe rounded out the top five. James Snead and Davey Pullen led the Truckin Thunder Sportsman to the green in the first 15 lap feature with Snead grabbing the lead out of turn 2. Once out front Snead pulled away from the rest of the field and went flag to flag to score his career first win at Virginia Motor Speedway. In the second 15 lap feature for the Truckin Thunder Sportsman Hunter Shelton grabbed the lead on lap 4 and never looked back dominating the rest of the feature to pick up his fourth win of the season with Junior Carter, Davey Pullen, Brett Adkins and Jeremiah Marshall rounding out the top five. It took seven laps for Matt Quade to take over the lead and once out front Quade set sail to take his sixth win of the season. Joey Polevoy and Brandon Galloway led the field to green with Polevoy grabbing the lead. Quade would work his way to second by the second circuit and started to apply pressure on Polevoy for the lead. Quade tried several times to get inside Polevoy and on lap 6 finally pulled to his inside taking the lead at the line. Once out front Quade pulled away for the win with Polevoy, Brian Maxey, Josh Harris and Matt Marshall rounding out the top five. In the second 15 lap feature for the Budweiser Modifieds it was much of the same as Matt Quade took over the lead from Josh Harris with a pass out of turn 4 to take the lead on lap 6. Once out front Quade pulled away to score his seventh win of the season and for the second time this season he swept both features in one night. Taylor Doggett worked his way up from his fourteenth place starting position to grab second on the last lap with Davey Pullen, Brett Adkins and Hunter Shelton rounded out the top five. In the first 12 lap feature for the Collision One Limited Stock Cars James Givens took the lead on the drop of the green flag and never looked back as he went flag to flag to pick up the win. Shawn Otey, Brandon Sandridge, Brian Bradley and Ben Lowery rounded out the top five. In the second 12 lap feature Shawn Otey took the lead on lap 3 when Andrew Tarbox slowed with mechanical issues. Once out front only a caution on lap 8 could slow Otey. On the final restart Otey pulled away from the field as Brandon Sandridge and James Givens battled for second. Otey would go on to take the win with Sandridge, Givens, Brian Bradley and Ryan Hutchens rounding out the top five. Opening Night wins go to J. Williams, Arthur, Quade, Shelton and Torbox

Opening Night wins go to J. Williams, Arthur, Quade, Shelton and Torbox

Jamaica, VA – What looked to be a cold and rainy day turned out to be a great night for racing at Virginia Motor Speedway for WRAR / WNNT Night and the opening night of Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series action. Taking home wins were Justin Williams (Victory Lap Late Models), Walker Arthur (Aaron’s Pro Late Models), Matt Quade (Budweiser Modifieds), Hunter Shelton (Truckin Thunder Sportsman) and Andrew Torbox (Collision One Limited Stock Cars). In the Victory Lap Late Model 35 lap feature Billy Hubbard and Anthony Kincaid led the field to green with Hubbard taking the top spot on the drop of the green flag. Hubbard would go unchallenged until lap 9 when defending champion Justin Williams would begin to work on Hubbard for the lead. The two raced side by side for the next two laps before Williams took over the top spot. On the next circuit Williams would get into a lapped car and the ensuing spin collected both Hubbard and Walker Arthur sending both to the infield. On the restart Troy Williams would rocket away from the field and looked like his was on his way to the win that is until Justin Williams began his charge back to the front. With the laps winding down Justin Williams would get up on the cushion and reel in the leader. On lap 28 Troy Williams made a slight mistake in turn 2 allowing Justin Williams to get to his inside and take over the top spot. Once out front Justin Williams would go on to take the win followed by Troy Williams, John Staton, Anthony Kincaid and Petie Coffey rounding out the top five. In the first ever race for the Aaron’s Pro Late Models Neal Hudgins and Paul McGinley led the field to green with the field getting three wide right out the gate. Caution would come out necessitating a complete restart. On the restart McGinley would get a better start and grab the lead out of turn 2. On lap 3 Walker Arthur rocketed to the inside of McGinley to take over the top spot. Arthur would work out to a sizeable lead while Daniel Baggerly worked his way to second. Once in the runner-up spot Baggerly set out to catch Arthur. Baggerly would pull to within a couple of car lengths but that was a close as he could get as Arthur would go on to collect the checkers with Baggerly, McGinley, Davis Lipscombe and Hudgins rounding out the top five. The Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature may have been the most exciting race of the night as Matt Marshall, Jimmy Duncan and Matt Quade battled door to door for much of the feature. Joey Polevoy and Marshall led the field to green with Marshall jumping out to the lead. For the first 12 laps Duncan shadowed Marshall until he could finally get to his inside on lap 10. On lap 12 he finally took the lead but only by inches over Marshall. Marshall would take the lead back on the next circuit and would race door to door with Duncan over the top spot on lap 18. Not to be outdone Matt Quade made his way past Marshall and set out to catch Duncan. On 22 Quade got inside Duncan as the two exited turn 2. They raced side by side for the next two laps until Duncan bobbled in turn 2 on the final lap allowing Qaude to go on to the win followed by Duncan, Joey Polevoy, Matt Marshall and Rayn Toole rounding out the top five. In the caution filled Truckin Thunder Sportsman 25 lap feature Hunter Shelton used an inside move on then leader Davey Pullen to take over the lead. The multiple cautions were the only thing that allowed the rest of the field to get close to Shelton and he dominated the event for the win. Rookie Jeremiah Marshall, Brett Adkins, Macy Causey and James Bunn rounded out the top five. In the Collision One Limited Stock 20 lap feature defending champion Brandon Sandridge used a three wide pass in traffic to take the lead and go on to a sizeable lead. But on the white flag Sandridge would blow a right rear tire going down the backstretch. Sandridge tried to stay out front but as the field came to the checkered flag rookie Andrew Torbox was able to sneak by for his career victory. Brian Bradley, Brandon Sandridge, James Givens with a flat left front and Ben Lowry rounded out the top five. The speedway will take next Saturday April 26th off due to the NASCAR races at Richmond International Raceway and return to racing on Saturday may 3rd for Truckin Thunder Scout Night presented by the Virginia Army national Guard. Justin Williams and Walker Arthur Score Late Model Wins; Baggerly, Adkins, Shelton, Hamilton, Qaude, Maxey and Givens also get wins

Jamaica, VA – After three consecutive rainouts Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway finally had a beautiful night to race as it hosted Virginia Army National Guard “Salute to the Fallen” Tribute Night to a very large and enthusiastic crowd. All divisions competed in twin events. The night started with a very moving tribute to the 10 Virginia Army National Guard soldiers that have died in combat. Feature event winners for the night included Justin Williams and Walker Arthur in Victory Lap Late Models; Daniel Baggerly swept both events in Fastrak Pro Late Models; Brett Adkins and Hunter Shelton in Truckin Thunder Sportsman; Bret Hamilton and Matt Quade in Budweiser Modifieds and Brian Maxey and Wesley Givens in Collision One Limited Stocks. In the first feature for the Victory Lap Late Models / Fastrak Pro Late Models Justin Williams grabbed the lead right off the green flag. The racing behind Williams was intense for second on back but no one had anything for Williams as he cruised to his second victory of the season. Billy Tucker, Walker Arthur, Troy Williams and John Staton rounded out the top five. The second Victory Lap Late Model feature was a bit different. Scott Adams and John Staton led the field to green with Adams taking control out of turn 2. It looked as if Admas was set on cruise control but Walker Arthur had a differ idea. Arthur worked his way to second by lap 6 and caught Adams as the two raced into turn 1. Arthur dove under Adams and completed a text book slide job to take over the top spot. Once out front Arthur cruised to the win while the rest of the field battled for position. Troy Williams, Justin Williams, Darryl Hills and Scott Adams rounded out the top five. The first Budweiser Modified feature was a barn burner. Bret Hamilton and Brian Dobie led the 19 car field to green with Hamilton leading the first circuit. By lap 3 matt Quade was to the inside of Hamilton for the lead. The tow raced that way for much of the first 10 laps of the 15 lap affair. Each time Quade tried to take the lead Hamilton had an answer. Qaude tried one last time in turn 2 on the final lap but Hamilton had enough to take the win. Matt Quade, Jimmy Duncan, Josh Harris, Michael Reynolds rounded out the top five. In the second Budweiser Modified feature Josh Harris led the first eleven laps with a five car battle for second behind him. On lap 11 Matt Quade went outside of Harris out of turn 4 to take the lead by inches. Once out front Qaude went on to the win with Harris, Francis Jarrelle, Bret Hamilton and Michael Reynolds rounding out the top five. Brett Adkins dominated the first feature of the night for the Truckin Thunder Sportsman. Troy Doggett led the first 2 laps before giving up the lead to Junior Carter. Carter led till Adkins swept to his outside on lap 4 to take the lead. Once out front Adkins cruised to the win. Junior Carter, Davey Pullen, Hunter Shelton and Troy Doggett rounded out the top five. In the second feature for the Truckin Thunder Sportsman the forst lap quickly went three wide with Macy Causey, Junior Carter and Hunter Shelton. Once the dust settled Shelton emerged with the lead and once out front never looked back as he went on to score the win. Brett Adkins, Davey Pullen, Troy Doggett and Macy Causey rounded out the top five. Brian Maxey emerged the winner in the caution filled first feature for the Collision One Limited Stock Cars. Ryan Hutchens, Brian Bradley, Shawn Otey and Travis Hopkins rounded out the top five. In the second feature for the Collision One Limited Stock Cars is was not good to be the leader but it also provide the best finish of the night. Shawn Otey grabbed the lead on the drop of the green but would surrender the top spot on lap 8 when he spun in turn 2. That handed the lead to David Bowler who paced the field for a lap before hitting the turn 2 wall ending his night. That gave the lead to Brian Maxey who looked to have the race locked up until the final two laps when Wesley Givens, in a borrowed car, closed in on the leader. Heading into turn 3 for the final time Givens dove it in deep under Maxey and when the two raced off of turn 4 it was Givens by a few feet at the line to get the win. Maxey, Travis Hopkins, Ryan Hutchens and Rick Powers rounded out the top five. The speedway will take next weekend off and return to racing Saturday August 10 to host week eight of Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series action. The evenings events will include four divisions of exciting high octane, side by side dirt track racing. See the Victory Lap Late Model / Fastrak Pro Late Models, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in action. All divisions will compete in a “Twin Race” format. Competitor gates for Saturday, August 10th will open at 4pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. Childress and Ender Score Career first Late Model Victories; H. Shelton, Adkins, C. Arnold, Duncan, Sandridge and Givens also pick up wins

Jamaica, VA – It only took rookie Stephen Childress of St. Stephens Church, VA six races into his late model career to pick up his first win in the ultra-competitive Victory Lap Late Model division at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway on Truckin Thunder Scout Night presented by the Virginia Army National Guard. Childress grab the lead in the first twin 20 on the opening circuit. On lap 3 Justin Williams looked to get inside Childress in turn 3 only to be turned away. Childress then held off several challenges by Billy Tucker and then pulled away to win comfortably. Billy Tucker, Tim Shelton, Joe Ender and Anthony Kincaid rounded out the top five. In a night of first for the late model division Joe Ender held off Billy Tucker and Justin Williams in a great battle to earn his career first Victory Lap Late Model victory. Ender grabbed the lead on the opening green flag with Tucker in tow. On lap 2 Tucker got inside Ender in turn 1 taking the lead out of turn 4. The battle for the lead then got heavy as Tucker, Ender and Williams waged a three car battle for the top spot. On lap 13 Ender went outside Tucker out of four taking over the top spot by inches at the line. Ender went on to score his career first win followed by Williams, Anthony Kincaid, Tim Shelton and David Padula. Padula won both Fastrak Pro Late Model events. Chris Arnold of Chester, VA picked up the lead on Lap 6 of the Budweiser Modified first event when then leader Jimmy Duncan got caught up in another drivers spin sending him to the rear for the restart. That was all Arnold needed as he went onto hold off his dad Dan Arnold on a green, white, checkered finish to pick up the victory. Rounding out the top five were Matt Quade, Michael Reynolds and Bret Hamilton. In the second race for the Budweiser Modifieds Jimmy Duncan set the pace by taking the top spot on the opening circuit. Multiple cautions plagued the beginning of the event allowing Brett Hamilton several shots at Duncan for the lead. Duncan pulled away for the victory as Hamilton and Matt Quade battled over second spot with Hamilton claiming the position. Quade, Brian Dobie and Matt Ashworth rounded out the top five. In the first Truckin Thunder Sportsman 15 lap event Thomas Rose took the lead on the opening lap with Hunter Shelton in tow. Hunter got inside Rose in turn 1 on lap 4 to take over the top spot. Once out front Shelton pulled away as Junior Carter and Brett Adkins battled over second. Shelton would go on to score the win with Carter, Adkins, Thomas Rose and James Snead rounding out the top five. It was a different story in race two for the Truckin Thunder Sportsman as James Snead lead the first circuit until Brett Adkins swept around his outside in turn 1 for the lead. Once out front Adkins put in on cruise control and would go on to score his third win of the season. Following Adkins to the checkers were James Snead holding off Hunter Shelton for second with Thomas Rose and Tommy Upshaw rounding out the top five. In the first race for the Collision One Limited Stock Cars it looked as if David Bowler would pick up his career first victory but on lap 10 Brandon Sandridge got inside Bowler coming out of two and dragged raced back to the line where he took over the lead and went over to get the win. Bowler, Wesley Givens, Brian Maxey and Shawn Otey rounded out the top five. In the second race for the Collision One Limited Stock Cars Travis Hopkins led first lap and a half before Wesley Givens worked under him for the lead. Once Givens got out front he pulled away with Bowler, Sandridge and Maxey in tow. As the laps wore down Bowler began to reel in the leader Givens but there just not enough laps and Givens would go on to the win. Bowler, Sandrige, Maxey and Hopkins would round out the top five.
