Speedway to host the $3000 to win Prelude to the World Championship Saturday, August 20

Jamaica, VA – The stars and cars of the FASTRAK Pro Late Model Touring Series will invade Virginia Motor Speedway for the $3000 to win Prelude to the World Championship. Many of the Mid-Atlantic’s top Pro Late Model drivers will be on hand to not only take home the $3000 top prize but also get some valuable track time for the $50,000 to win FASTRAK World Championship set for September 23-24, 2022. “What this essentially boils down to is a paid practice for Pro Late Model competitors for our upcoming $50,000 to win FASTRAK World Championship presented by Dealer Group USA,” commented track owner and President Bill Sawyer. Sawyer added, “the FASTRAK Pro Late Model races are some of the best races we host here at Virginia Motor Speedway; no matter where you look, there is always three and four wide action throughout the field.” Also, see the tracks Budweiser Modified, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, and Collision One Limited Stocks in action. Competitor gates for Saturday, August 20, will open at 3 pm, with spectator gates opening at 5 pm. On track, activities will begin at 5:45 pm with hot laps. Hoosier’s National Tire Shortage Forces Cancellation of This Weekend’s Prelude to the World Championship

Jamaica, Virginia – The current Hoosier tire shortage has forced officials at Virginia Motor Speedway and FASTRAK Racing to cancel this weekend’s Prelude to the World Championship event. After exhausting all avenues available to get enough FT200 and FT400 compounds to cover the number of cars expected to contend for the $3000 top prize, the difficult decision was to cancel the event for 2021. “We have been in conversations with Hoosier Tire for several weeks now about the number of tires available as it is not only affecting this FASTRAK tour event but also our weekly racing,” commented Virginia Motor owner Bill Sawyer. Sawyer added, “unfortunately, there are just not enough tires available for not only the Pro Late Models but also for two of our weekly divisions; there is just no way to get the tires manufactured in time for the event.” This cancellation comes on the heels of the track’s 45th annual USA 100 falling to rain. The cancellation will also affect the three weekly divisions scheduled to compete as support divisions to the FASTRAK Touring Series. “I support Bill and Virginia Motor Speedway’s decisions on this,” commented FASTRAK Racing Owner/Founder Stan Lester. “No different than our Charlotte event when we had to cancel it. That difficult decision made sure that our weekly tracks had tires. Even though many of our tour events have been canceled, it’s the responsibility of the series to ensure that our weekly tracks can race first, then the tour afterward. Hopefully, this move will ensure we have plenty of tires for the World Championship,” added Lester. Speedway Returns to Racing Saturday, June 29

Jamaica, VA – Virginia Motor Speedway will return to racing on Saturday, June 29th and host week 6 of Dirt Series Championship weekly racing action. The night will feature all four of the speedway’s Dirt Series Championship divisions in action. See the Victory Lap Pro Late Models, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Cars in some exciting side by side racing! After a rainout on June 8 Corey Almond of Appomattox, VA holds a 5-point advantage over Justin Williams of Concord, VA in the Victory Lap Pro Late Model points. With the division averaging 26 cars a week, this is the most competitive division at the speedway. In the Budweiser Modified division, there have been three different winners in as many races with defending champion Hunter McClendon of Williamsburg, VA holding a 20-point lead over Lance Grady of Hanover, VA in the race for the championship. The tightest points battle is in the Truckin Thunder Sportsman division where Tyler Shipp of Mechanicsville, VA holds a slim 1-point advantage over defending champion Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA. And in the Collision One Limited Stock Car division Corey Bradley of Hopewell, VA holds a 3-point advantage over defending champion James Givens of Henrico, VA. With the points so tight and every race more important than the next, this Saturday nights racing should be unbelievably exciting. Ross Bailes Holds off Late Charge by Chris Ferguson for $20,000 FASTRAK World Championship Victory; Jake Hawkins Goes Flag to Flag in Southeast Dirt Modified Series Win

Jamaica, VA – Ross Bailes of Clover, SC put on a clinic leading flag to flag to capture the $20,000 FASTRAK World Championship presented by James River Equipment victory at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway. Bailes took the lead on the drop of the green flag and then held off a hard charging Chris Ferguson of Mt. Holly, NC by .985 seconds for the victory. “If you don’t have a Barry Wright ICON race car you need to get you one, this car was flawless all weekend; I can’t thank Barry Wright and the crew enough for putting such a great cat under me,” commented Bailes in WhosYourDriver.org Victory Lane The event attracted a record car count for Virginia Motor Speedway of 71 entrants. In other action Jake Hawkins of Fairmont, WV held off Chris Arnold of Matoaca, VA for his first Southeast Dirt Modified Series win and the $3000 check. Ross Bailes and Corey Almond led the 24 car field to the green with Bailes jumping to the lead out of turn 2 and Jake Hawkins following to second. The races first caution would fly on lap 3 with Hawkins blowing a motor while running second. On the restart Bailes pulled away with Ryan Montgomery working his way to second. By lap 17 Bailes was working traffic and on the following lap split two lapped cars to make it three-wide in turn 1 as he had Montgomery closing. On a lap 19 restart Almond spun in front of the field collecting Thomas Robinson and Justin Williams bring out a red flag. On the restart an eight car pile-up when one car drove over the hood of another car coming to the green caused yet another red flag and thinning the field out. On the restart Bailes pulled away from the field as Chris Ferguson began to pick off several positions over the next three laps moving to third. By the halfway point of the race Bailes had stretched his lead to a little over four seconds. On lap 38 Ferguson worked inside Montgomery on turn 3 to take over the second spot. On lap 42 Bailes came up on a side-by side battle and very patiently worked his way past them and extending his lead. With the laps winding down the car on the move was that of Tyler Bare who had been caught up in the big wreck on lap 19. By lap 48 Bare had worked his way back to sixth. On lap 52 Walker Arthur worked his way into fourth as caution came out for Daryl Charlier who slowed in turn 2 closing the gap between Bailes and Ferguson setting up an eight lap shootout for the $20,000 top prize. On the restart Ferguson tried to stay with the leader but Bailes was able to stretch his lead to four car lengths. With two to go Ferguson closed to within two car lengths. But Bailes was able to hold on for the $20,000 win. Rounding out the top five were Ferguson, Ryan Montgomery, Walker Arthur and Tyler Bare. Heat race winners were Ross Bailes, Corey Almond, Jacob Hawkins, Jensen Ford, Thomas Robinson, Ryan Montgomery, Brent Hilton and Trent Ivey. B Main winners were Joshua Bishop, Brett Hamm, Daryl Charlier and Tyler Bare. In the Southeast Dirt Modified Series 30 lap feature Jake Hawkins and Buck Stevens led the field to green with Hawkins leading the first circuit with Chris Arnold taking second in a three wide battle. Multiple cautions slowed the pace of the race with Hawkins able to hold on to the top spot each restart. Several times Arnold would get inside of Hawkins and looked to have enough momentum to get the lead only to have a caution fly. On lap 15 Arnold pulled a slide job on Hawkins in turn 2 but jumped the cushion allowing Hawkins back around to regain the lead. That bobble also allowed Ryan Ayers to get by for second. Over the final 15 laps the battle was for second back as Hawkins put it on cruise to go on to take the $3000 victory. Arnold was able to get inside Ayers out of turn 4 and nnip him at the line for second. Ayers, Jordan Taylor and Mike Reynolds rounded out the top five. The 2017 Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship weekly racing season at Virginia Motor Speedway has concluded. Overton Scores $20,000 to win Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth presented by Essex Concrete Win; Davenport Takes $3000 FASTRAK Pro Late Model Win

(PR Contribution from Roby Helm) Jamaica, VA – Brandon Overton of Evans, GA drove the Randy Weaver Racing #116 to its second straight Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth presented by Essex Concrete win on Saturday night and pocketed $20,000 in the Aaron’s King of Commonwealth at Virginia Motor Speedway. Overton battled with Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA early and often before taking the lead for good on lap 28 of the 60-lap race. “That race car could have driven itself around there tonight; Jonathan (Davenport) showed me how to get around turn one and I got behind in lapped traffic and then turned it around on him later,” commented Overton in victory lane. Overton added “I just got my first $10,000 win and now a $20,000 win, it is kinda unreal I can’t thank Randy Weaver and the crew for giving me the chance to drive this car.” After starting on the outside of the front row, Davenport took the lead from polesitter Overton with a crossover move to the inside coming off the second turn on the first lap that saw Marlar, Madden and Hubbard in third through fifth respectively. One crossover move is worth another, as Overton returned the favor on Davenport to take the lead on lap two, as McDowell got by Hubbard for the fifth spot. The caution flag was unfurled for the first time on lap three when 2016 ULTIMATE SE Rookie of the Year Glenn Elliott spun in turn four. Marlar gave up the third spot on the track to pit under caution. Overton pulled in front of Davenport on lap seven, and Madden worked his way back around Hubbard for the third spot. Davenport made an inside move on Overton coming off the fourth turn on lap nine to take the lead. Hubbard and Madden were still contesting the third spot, with Hubbard reclaiming the position on the 11th lap. Davenport reached the cars on the tail end of the lead lap on lap 13, and McDowell got around Madden to take the fourth spot on lap 15. Overton chased down Davenport in lapped traffic, and began to challenge for the lead on lap 20. McDowell and Madden got by Hubbard to move up to third and fourth respectively on lap 20. Davenport was able to keep Overton behind him in lapped traffic, but once they had clear race track in front of them, Overton dove to the inside going into turn three on lap 28 to take the lead from Davenport. McDowell then closed on Davenport and they raced side-by-side for second on lap 30. Elliott brought out the caution flag for a second time on lap 32 to bunch up the field for a restart. By lap 35, Overton had pulled out to a half straightaway lead over McDowell. Marlar moved into the top five again on lap 38 when he got around Ferguson. The final caution flag of the race came out on lap 44 for debris in turn four. Overton led McDowell, Davenport, Marlar, Madden, Ferguson and Hubbard double-file back to the green flag. Marlar passed Davenport for the third spot on lap 45, and with ten laps to go, Overton had once again opened up a half straightaway lead over McDowell. Overton found himself in lapped traffic on lap 53. Overton had increased his lead over McDowell to a full straightaway on lap 55. At the checkered flag, Overton was out of sight of McDowell and took the checkered flag with a 4.175 second margin of victory. In the FASTRAK Racing Pro Late Model $3000 to win feature Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA, one of only a few drivers pulling double duty, returned to his dirt late model roots Saturday night and won the Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth presented by Essex Concrete 40. After starting on the outside of the front row for the main event, Davenport took the lead and never looked back. The driver known as “Superman” led all 40 laps for the win driving the C&H Paving Barry Wright “House Car.” “We’re off to a good start this year with our Chevrolet Performance Circle Track Engine program, as we’re three for three so far this season,” Davenport said. “Now, if we could just get some of that success to rub off on our super late model program we would be in good shape.” A pair of multi-car wrecks in turn one on the first two attempts to start the race accounted for two of the five caution flags in the event. Once everyone settled into a race pace, Davenport took the lead from his outside front row starting spot, followed by polesitter Ford, Justin Williams, Ron Parker of Belwood, NC in the Schaeffer Oil Rocket and Nance. Parker passed Williams for third on lap two, and by lap seven, Davenport had opened up a half straightaway lead on Ford. By the ninth lap, Davenport caught the cars on the tail end of the lead lap, but that didn’t slow him down at all. Williams began to fade a little on lap ten, as Nance passed him for fourth, and Knight got by him for the fifth spot on lap 12. Nance had a good run going, as he worked his way around Parker for the third position on the 14th tour. The field slowed for a caution flag on lap 16 when Beachler stalled in turn one. The double-file restart saw Davenport leading Ford, Nance, Parker, Knight, Bare, Justin Williams, Arthur, Hicks and Frankie Beard of Hartwell, GA in the Jessica Cornett Racing/CMP Automotive Mastersbilt in the second through tenth spots respectively for the restart. On the restart, Ford pushed up high in turn four, and hit the guardrail on the front straightaway. That caused Arthur to get sideways, and grab a handful of steering wheel. Arthur didn’t hit anyone, or anything, and the field stayed green with a major shuffle behind the leader Davenport. The caution flag came back out on lap 19 when teammates Matthew Quade of Mechanicsville, MD in the Northern Neck Chevrolet Rocket and Jared Powell of Scottsville, VA in the Northern Neck Chevrolet Rocket tangled with Corey Almond of Appomattox, VA in the Ditch Witch Longhorn in turn two. On the restart, Bare got by Nance for the second spot in turn two, and Hornsby, after restarting in the seventh spot, made a big move and passed Nance for third on the front straightaway on lap 20. Nance fell back to fifth on lap 23 when Ford got by for the fourth spot. Davenport encountered lapped traffic on lap 28 with a 15 car-length lead on Bare. By lap 30, Davenport had once again opened back up a half straightaway lead. Debris in turn four on lap 33 lit up the yellow bulb for a final time. With the field bunched up single file behind him, Davenport was once again up to the task, and led the seven lap dash to the finish. The Speedway will return to racing next Saturday April 15th and host week 2 of the Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship weekly racing action featuring the Victory Lap Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions. Admission price for adults is only $12, seniors (60+) $10; military (active/retired w/ proper I.D.) $8, students 11 – 17 years old $6 and children 10 and under admitted free. Pit passes will be $20. Competitor gates for Saturday April 8th will open at 3pm with spectator gates opening at 4pm. On track activities will begin at 6:00pm with hot laps. Ryan Montgomery Drives from Fifteenth to Score $5000 FASTRAK World Challenge Victory; $15,000 World Championship to Cap off Weekend

Jamaica, VA – To say the 2016 edition of the FASTRAK World Challenge was phenomenal would be an understatement. The race had five lead changes and three and four wide racing all night. In the end it was Ryan Montgomery of Fairmont, WV grabbing the lead from Jensen Ford of Piney Flatts, TN on lap 35 and holding off Henry Hornsby III and Tyler Bare to score the $5000 victory. “After getting by him for the lead earlier I knew if I could stay close to Jensen (Ford) I might have a chance on a restart or in traffic, and when we got in traffic I knew I had to take a shot at him and it worked,” commented Montgomery in victory lane. Henry Hornsby III and Corey Almond led the field to green with Almond leading the first circuit. Almond would pace the field for the first 11 laps before Cla Knight through a slide job on him in turn 4 to take the lead on lap 12. By lap 18 Jensen Ford had worked his way to second and on lap 21 got inside Knight out of turn 4 for the lead. After a violent flip by Corey Almond in turn 1 on a lap 22 restart Ford, Walker Arthur and Jimmy MacNamara put on a three wide clinic for the lead on the next restart with Ford holding on by inches at the line. On the next circuit Arthur swept the outside of Jensen and MacNamara to take the lead out of turn 2 only to have the caution come out yet again and hand the lead back to Jensen. On lap 23 Ryan Montgomery worked traffic to perfection sweeping the outside of lapped traffic along with race leader Ford for the lead. On the lap 25 Ford would get back around Montgomery for the lead. He would only hold that lead for 10 more laps before Montgomery dove inside Ford out of turn four for the lead. With Montgomery leading Tyler Bare would work his way from his eighteenth starting position to take over third. It looked as if he might have the fastest car on the track. But two late cautions allowed Montgomery to hold off the field and go on to the $5000 World Challenge victory. Rounding out the top five were henry Hornsby III, Tyler Bare, Walker Arthur and Kyle Lukon. Heat race winners were Henry Hornsby III, Corey Almond and Cla Knight. B Main wins went to Ron Parker and Mark Parks. Virginia Motor Speedway Victory Lap Pro Late Model Champion Justin Williams set overall fast time with a lap of 18.371 seconds (97.981 mph). The speedway will return to racing tomorrow Saturday September 17th for the $15,000 to win Aaron’s FASTRAK World Championship presented by James River Equipment and Commonwealth Motorsports. The race is open to all Chevrolet Performance Late Models, for the first time in the sanctions history, as long as they pass FASTRAK rules. The night will also feature the Southeast Dirt Modified Series in the $3000 to win “Southeast Modified Showdown”.
