Corey Almond Takes the Win and Championship in Pro Late Models; Shipp, Arnold, Bradley Take wins; Butler, Adkins, Clemans Take Championships
Jamaica, VA – Corey Almond of Appomattox, VA, took the lead from Billy Hubbard of Cobbs Creek, VA, on lap 26 with an inside pass out of turn 2. Once out front, Almond pulled away to take the win and his first Victory Lap Pro Late Model Championship at Virginia Motor Speedway on Joe Hudson’s Collision Center Championship Night.
Curtis Hughes and Billy Hubbard led the Victory Lap Pro Late Models to the green for the start of their 30-lap feature. Hubbard would take the lead at the start, with Corey Almond following in second. Davis Lipscombe was the big mover in the field, working his way from eighth to fourth by lap 15. On lap 20, Almond started to work inside Hubbard for the lead. Each time, Hubbard would hold him off. On lap 25, Almond got under Hubbard out of turn two; they raced side-by-side to the line, where Almond nosed out Hubbard for the lead. Once they hit turn 1, Almond began to pull away and would go on to take the win and his first Victory Lap Pro Late Model Championship. Rounding out the top five were Billy Hubbard, Curtis Hughes, Davis Lipscombe, and Joey Love.
After battling cancer over the last year, Chris Arnold of Matoaca, VA, made a triumphant return in the Budweiser Modified 25-lap feature. On a lap four restart, Arnold followed leader Scott Heath down into turn three and then put a classic slide job on Heath to take the lead coming out of turn four. Once out front, Arnold would begin to pull away from the field. Behind him, Heath and Michael Pappas battled for second place, with Chase Butler in striking distance. Butler worked his way to second on the final lap as the laps wound down, bringing home a runner-up finish and capturing his fourth Budweiser Modified Championship in a row. Rounding out the top five were Michael Pappas, Joey Polevoy, and Johnny Brooks.
In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 25-lap feature, Matt Meads and Blake Adkins led the field to green, with Meads taking the lead out of turn two. Meads would pace the field with Steve Causey following closely in second. On lap 15, Causey got inside Meads coming out of turn four, taking the lead at the line. On the following lap, Meads would get inside Causey in turn three; the two would touch, and both would spin, handing the lead to Brett Adkins. Adkins would lead the next nine laps before Tyler Shipp worked inside Adkins in turn three, heading to the white and taking the lead out of turn four. Tripp would take home the win, while Brett Adkins would pick up his fourth Truckin Thunder Sportsman Championship. Rounding out the top five were Steve Causey, Adam Breeden, and Tony Breeden.
In the Joe Hudson’s Collision Center Limited Stock Feature, close friends Corey Bradley and Trent Clemans put on a show for the fans, racing side-by-side multiple times throughout the 20-lap feature. Clemans made one last attempt to get by for a career-first win. But his buddy Bradley had other plans and held off Clemans for the win. Clemans would settle for the runner-up finish but took home the Joe Hudson’s Collision Centers Limited Stock Championship. Rounding out the top five were Christian Sherr, Justin Pullen, and Gregory Morgan.
With the dirt track season done for 2024, the staff will shift gears and prepare for one of the facility's biggest events of the year, the Run-A-Muck Mud Bog, presented by Breezeline and WhosYourDriver.org, on Saturday, October 5th. The Pit will host the Premier Mega Truck Racing competitors for their Banquet Race, featuring side-by-side mega truck racing with no time clocks. Also, see the Super Stock, Pro Stock, Modified, and Pro Mod hill-n-hole divisions in action. Gates open at 9 AM, with the mud bog beginning at noon.
