Corey Almond and Derek Magee Split Pro Late Model Wins; Brett Adkins, Bret Hamilton, and Johnny Brooks all Return to Victory Lane

Jamaica, VA – Corey Almond of Appomattox, VA, and Derek Magee of Millsboro, DE, split Twin 17 lap wins in the Victory Lap Pro Late Models at Virginia Motor Speedway on Saturday, August 19, during week 10 of Dirt Series Championship weekly racing.

In the first 17-lap feature, Billy Hubbard and Corey Almond led the field to green, with Hubbard grabbing the lead out of turn 2. On the next circuit, Almond dove under Hubbard to race side-by-side out of turn 2. Out of turn 4, Almond took the lead over Hubbard at the line. Behind the leaders, the battle for third is going strong between Chuck Bowie, Derek Magee, and Nick Davis. Point leader Jeremy Pilkerton would work his way back to the battle for fifth by lap eight after spinning on lap 3. With the laps winding down, Hubbard tried several times to get by Almond for the lead, the last time coming to the checkered flag with Almond holding on to take the win. Hubbard, Derek Magee, Jeremy Pilkerton, and Chuck Bowie would round out the top five.

After a five-car invert, Chuck Bowie and Jeremy Pilkerton would lead the field to green, with Bowie sliding up the track and allowing Derek Magee to get to the inside, taking the lead at the line. Once at front, Magee began to pull away from Bowie, who had Hubbard working to get second. On lap 7, Bowie slid up the track in turn 2 to give Hubbard the space he needed to take second. Hubbard could never mount of charge for the lead as Magee kept a great pace and went on to win in his first time at the track. Rounding out the top five were Hubbard, Bud Stinson, Chuck Bowie, and Corey Almond.

In the Truckin Thunder 25 lap feature, Adam Breeden of Standardsville, VA, and Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA, led the field to green, with Shelton taking the lead out of turn 2. Shelton pulled away from the battle for second between Matt Meads of Elizabeth City, NC, Breeden, and Bret Adkins of Saluda, VA. Adkins would work his way into second and set out to catch Shelton. By lap 9, Adkins had cut the lead to a car length. As the two raced into turn 1, Shelton would blow a motor handing the lead to Adkins. Once out front, Adkins would comfortably go on to take his third win of the season over Steve Causey, Adam Breeden, Tommy Upshaw, and Blake Adkins.

In the Budweiser Modified 25-lap feature, Bret Hamilton of Powhatan, VA, grabbed the lead from Sam Lamborgini of Hayes, VA, on lap two with an outside move in turn 2. Once out front Hamilton would pull away and go on to grab his second win of the season. Rounding out the top five were Brent Bordeaux, current point leader Chase Butler, who finished on three tires, Sam Lamborgini, and Tim Schulte.

In the Joe Hudson’s Collision Centers Limited Stock 20 lap feature, Jacob Buie and Cory Bradley led the field to green, with Bradley taking the lead. Johnny Brooks had to start eighth after winning the last two races, but that fact didn’t keep him from the front very long as he grabbed the lead on lap 5 from Bradley. Once out front, he had to survive three restarts after cautions to go on a take his fifth win of the season. Rounding out the top five were Bradley, Brain Maxey, Justin Pullen, and Trent Clemans.

The speedway will return to racing next Saturday, August 26, to host week 11 of Dirt Series Championship weekly racing, featuring the Victory Lap Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified, and Collision One Limited Stock divisions in action.
