Hot Temperatures Postpone July 20 Prelude to the World Championship at Virginia Motor Speedway till August 24
Jamaica, VA – Officials with Virginia Motor Speedway and the FASTRAK Racing Series powered by Chevrolet Performance have announced that the $3,000 to win Northern Neck Chevrolet Prelude to the World Championship has been postponed for Saturday, July 20th due to forecasted heat indexes above 110 degrees. The Prelude to the World Championship has been rescheduled for Saturday, August 24th.
“With heat indexes forecast for between 110 and 115 degrees we feel it is in the best interest of the teams, fans, officials and sponsors to postpone,” said track owner Bill Sawyer, “we are looking forward to hosting the Prelude to the World Championship on August 24th.”
The Prelude to the World Championship will be the last chance for drivers on the FASTRAK Racing Series powered by Chevrolet Performance to get a paid practice at Virginia Motor Speedway ahead of the $50,000 to win 2019 FASTRAK World Championship. The FASTRAK World Championship, with a total purse of $166,275, is the single richest race in Pro Late Model racing history. The race will be broadcast as a two-hour special as part of Speed51’s Short Track America on MavTV and will air on October 30th.
The speedway will take next week off and return to racing on Saturday, August 3rd to host Pepsi Night and week 9 of Dirt Series Championship weekly racing action featuring the Victory Lap Pro Late Model, Budweiser Modified, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in action.
Competitor gates for Saturday, August 3rd, will open at 3 pm with spectator gates opening at 5 pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30 pm with hot laps.
Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway is a ½ mile dirt oval track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in Jamaica, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland, and the Hampton Roads area.
