UMP MODIFIEDS JOIN 410 SPRINT CARS THURSDAY APRIL 11
Jamaica, VA – It has been already been announced that Virginia Motor Speedway will be opening its 50th Anniversary season with the return of 410 sprint cars to the ½ mile speed plant in Jamaica, VA on Thursday April 11, 2019. Now officials are excited to announce that the UMP Modifeds will be the support division and compete in a $3000 to win event and will also be the first race of the Dirt Cup Challenge 2019 season. Competitors competing in the event will collect UMP National Points.
“We are very excited to have Bill Long and Laura Tucker bring their Dirt Cup Challenge 2019 to Virginia Motor Speedway for the very first time. I have had the pleasure to work with Bill in the past and know that he and his staff will bring a lot to the table heading up to April 11, as they do a phenomenal job in promoting their events,� commented Virginia Motor Speedway Director of Marketing Dave Seay.
Seay added, “this event is going to be an open wheel racing fans dream, and one you will not want to miss.�
The Dirt Cup Challenge got a reboot in 2018 after beginning as a tour in Michigan. When Bill Long made the move to North Carolina he wanted to continue to promote the UMP modified division and help grow it in the Mid-Atlantic region. The Dirt Cup Challenge only promotes four to six of the bigger events in the Mid-Atlantic and has worked with UMP to make their races DIRTcar UMP National Point events.

Thursday night April 11th will mark the beginning of Virginia Motor Speedway’s 50th season and will be one of the speedway’s most exciting events. With his series making a return to Virginia Motor Speedway, Tony Stewart will hop into the seat of his sprint car to compete in the $10,000 Thursday Night Thunder sprint car special event. Ticket pricing and info are forthcoming. Fans are encouraged to be on the lookout for a special combo ticket package with Richmond Raceway, who will be hosting the NASCAR competitors on Friday and Saturday April 12-13th just down the road in Richmond, VA.
Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway is a 1/2-mile, dirt oval. The track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in Jamaica, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads area.
