Hurricane Florence Forces Postponement of this Weekend’s FASTRAK World Championship to October 5 – 6
Jamaica, VA – Officials of both Virginia Motor Speedway and FASTRAK Racing have made the decision to postpone this weekend’s FASTRAK World Championship to Friday and Saturday October 5 – 6, 2018 due to Hurricane Florence that is anticipated to hit the East Coast later this week.
“With Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina declaring States of Emergencies due to the impending hurricane expected to hit the East Coast later this week we have made the decision to postpone the weekend’s FASTRAK World Championship so that our fans and competitors can make the necessary preparations to be ready for Florence,� commented Owner Bill Sawyer.
Sawyer added, “you always hate to postpone an event but the safety of our fans, competitors and staff is much more important.�
FASTRAK General Manager DJ Irvine stated, “With the impending hurricane we, along with Virginia Motor Speedway, feel that this is the absolute best decision for our teams, fans, and staff. Ultimately, we want everyone to stay safe. We are still looking forward to the FASTRAK World Championship.�
With the postponement officials have decided to extend the pre-registration deadline till Friday September 28th, allowing teams the chance to save up to $95 in registration fees.
This mega race will pay the winner a cool $20,000 and with a total two-day payout of over $80,000 it makes it the richest weekend in all of Pro Late Model racing.
The October 5 – 6th weekend will kick off with the $5000 to win FASTRAK World Challenge presented by WhosYourDriver.org on Friday October 5th. The event is a member only $40 lap race. Members are required to have competed in at least seven FASTRAK sanctioned events during the 2018 season.
The following night, Saturday October 6th will be the FASTRAK World Championship presented by James River Equipment, a $20,000 to win 60 lap feature event that is open to all Pro Late Model competitors. In the event of rain, Sunday October 7th is currently scheduled as the rain date.
Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway is a ½ mile dirt oval track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in Jamaica, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads area.
