Speedway Falls to Rain for the Third Time This Season
Jamaica, VA – Just as competitors were making it on the track for hot laps Mother Nature decided to interrupt the evenings activities with lightning and a heavy downpour that ended S.T.A.R. Kids Night racing activities at Virginia Motor Speedway. Speedway officials will work with the Gloucester S.T.A.R. program to reschedule the night’s activities.
“We tried to get tonight’s events in, but with heavy lightning and a severe thunderstorm warning in affect we felt that the safety of our fans and competitors was paramount,� commented track General Manager Clarke Sawyer.
Next up for the speedway will be the $20,000 to win 42nd Annual USA 100 presented by WhosYourDriver.org on Saturday June 16th. The Ultimate Super Late Model Series competitors will compete in a 60-lap feature for the $20,000 top prize. There will also be a $3000 to win, 40-lap event for the FASTRAK Racing Series presented by Chevrolet Performance competitors. A Sunday June 17 rain date has been established should it be needed. Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway is a ½ mile dirt oval track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in Jamaica, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads area.
