Cannon, Arthur, Smith, Meadows, Shiltz and Dohm heat wins lock them into $20,000 to win Fastrak World Championship

Colby Cannon leads the rest of the field into turn 1 on way to his victoryJamaica, VA – Mother Nature did her best to disrupt night 2 of the $20,000 to win Fastrak World Championship but officials were able to get all six heat races in before rain suspended the $1000 winner take all “King of the Hill� race till after tonight’s events.

In heat race action Colby Cannon, Walker Arthur, David Smith, Chris Meadows, Jimmy Shiltz and Tim Dohm picked up wins guaranteeing them a spot in tonight’s big $20,000 Fastrak World Championship finale. On heat race of note was heat race number three where Jonathan Davenport crossed the finish line as the winner only to not pass post-race inspection giving the win to 4-time Fastrak SE Touring Series Champion David Smith.

In Fastrak World Championship qualifying David Smith set the overall fast time with an 18.604 second lap. That lap was just .005 of a second off the track record set this year by Daniel Baggerly.

Tonight’s schedule of events for the Fastrak pro Late Model competitors will consist of hot laps, B-Mains and the 60 lap $20,000 to win feature. There will also be a $1500 to win Engine Builders non-qualifiers race that will start 24 cars. The remainder of the 25 lap "King of the Hill" feature will be run at the end of the program. It will pick up where it left off last night at lap 5.

Joining the program tonight will be the track’s Budweiser Modified division for $2000 to win event.

Fans will have a chance for a little Fastrak World Championship interaction with the Tire-X Pit Crew Challenge presented by the VA Army National Guard will being held under the main grandstands starting at 5pm. The fastest fan will win $250 and the fastest crew member will also win $250. The overall fastest will receive a huge trophy during opening race ceremonies.

Admission for Saturday October 4th: Adults – $25, Seniors (60+) / Military – $20, Students (13-17) – $10 and Children 12 and under free with paying adult. Saturday pit passes are $30 and will also get you a seat in the grandstands.

Competitor gates will open at 3pm with spectator gates opening 5pm. On track action will begin at 6:30pm with modified hot laps and qualifying.

To enhance the fans racing experience the speedway has installed a short wave FM transmitter and all of the evening’s action can be heard at 95.5 FM. So bring your portable radio headset and enjoy hearing all the action.

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway is a ½ mile dirt oval track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in Jamaica, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads area.
