Virginia Motor Speedway Crowns 2013 Champions

Jamaica, VA - Bill Sawyers Virginia Motor Speedway wrapped up the 2013 season by recognizing the top ten in each of the track’s divisions with special attention reserved for the 2013 champions. During the night’s events almost $34,000 in cash and prizes were awarded, of that almost $26,000 was in cash.

During the night’s events it was announced that the Commonwealth 100 would be returning in 2014 on April 12th with National Dirt Racing League (NDRL) sanctioning and pay $20,000 to the winner and that the USA 100 would return on May 17th with the Ultimate Super Late Model Series once again sanctioning the event. More details about both events will be forthcoming.

It was also announced that all the track’s divisional sponsors would be returning for the 2014 season and that the track’s Fastrak Pro Late Model division will have Aaron’s, Inc. as the division sponsor and that the division will now have a separate weekly payout and yearly point fund.

Justin Williams of Shipman, VA was crowned the 2013 Victory Lap Late Model Champion and received a check for $5,000 for his efforts. Adams also received a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography and his Championship helmet trophy and jacket.

Rounding out the top ten in Victory Lap Late Model points were Billy Tucker of King George, VA; Joe Ender of Glen Allen, VA; Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA; John Staton of Chesapeake, VA; rookie Stephen Childress of St. Stephens Church, VA; David Padula of Greencastle, PA; Corey Almond of Appomattox, VA; Troy Williams of South Mills, NC; and Anthony Kincaid of Hayes, VA

David Padula of Greencastle, PA was crowned the very first Fastrak Pro Late Model Champion. Padula received a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography and his Championship helmet trophy and jacket.

Brett Adkins of Gloucester, VA was crowned the 2013 Truckin Thunder Sportsman Champion and received a check for $1,000 for his efforts. It was his career first championship. Adkins also received a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography and his Championship helmet trophy and jacket.

Rounding out the top ten in Truckin Thunder points were Hunter Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA; Junior Carter of Mechanicsville, VA; rookie Troy Doggett of Ruther Glen, VA; Macy Causey of Seaford, VA; Tommy Upshaw of West Point, VA; Brandon Coates of Spotsylvania, VA; Chad Beahr of Mechanicsville, VA; Rookie James Snead of Fredericksburg, VA and Carl Vaughan of Chesapeake, VA.

Jimmy Duncan of Fredericksburg, VA was crowned the 2013 Budweiser Modified Champion for the second consecutive season and received a check for $1,000 for his efforts. Duncan also received a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography and his Championship helmet trophy and jacket.

Rounding out the top ten in Budweiser Modified points were rookie Matt Quade of Mechanicsville, MD; Joey Polevoy of Powhatan, VA; Neal Hudgins of Gwynn’s Island, VA; Mike Reynolds of Clements, MD; Charlie Hubbard of Chesapeake, VA; Francis Jarrelle III of Henrico, VA; rookie Jeff Solinger of Bumpass, VA; Aaron Harris of Chester, VA and Dan Arnold of Chesterfield, VA.

Brandon Sandridge of Sandston, VA won the Collision One Limited Stock Car Championship. It was his career first championship. Sandridge received a check for $700, a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography and his Championship helmet trophy and jacket.

Rounding out the top ten in Collision One Limited Stock Car points were Travis Hopkins of Spotsylvania, VA; Ryan Huthcens of Providence Forge, VA; David Bowler of Gloucester, VA; rookie Brian Bradley of Hopewell, VA; rookie Lucas Ward of Beaverdam, VA; Rick Powers of Richmond, VA, Shawn Otey of Aylett, VA and Chad Champion of Beaverdam, VA.

The speedway also crowns an overall Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series Champion which pits all four divisions against each other and in yet another close battle in the eight year history of the championship Truckin Thunder Sportsman Champion Brett Adkins of Gloucester, VA beat out Victory Lap Late Model Champion Justin Williams and Budweiser Modified Champion Jimmy Duncan to take the overall championship and the $2000 check and special eagle trophy that goes along with it.

Special achievement award winners for the 2012 season included: The Pitts Lumber Rookies of the Year were Stephen Childress in Victory Lap Late Models; Troy Doggett in Truckin Thunder Sportsman; Matt Quade in Budweiser Modifieds and Brian Bradley in the Collision One Limited Stock Car division. Each winner received a plaque and $250.

For the first time the speedway presented a Sportsmanship Award and it went to Victory Late Late Model driver Tim Shelton for his dedication to promoting racing at VMS. Also, presented for the first time was the Hard Luck Award and it was given to Collision One Limited Stock Car driver Bob Terry who totaled his car early in the 2013 season in a wild flip. New Sponsor Aaron's presented him with a new 32" television, making him a "Lucky Dog"!

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway is a 1/2-mile, dirt oval. The track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads area.
