Virginia Motor Speedway

Adams dominates in Victory Lap Late Models; Dobie, Adkins and Sandridge also get wins.

Jamaica, VA – Two-time and defending Victory Lap Late Model Champion Scott Adams of Chester, VA made several changes over the off-season the biggest one was joining forces with Sommey lacey and his #45 team. It seems the marriage has paid off as Adams led flag to flag to pick up the opening night win at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway on Safety-Kleen / WRAR/ WNNT Night.

On the drop of the green flag Adams rocketed around the outside of Billy Tucker of King George, VA to lead the first lap. The only time anyone got close to Adams was on lap 5 when the races only caution came out for a spin by tony Buckler in turn 4.

On the restart Adams once again sped away from the field while Tucker, Tim Shelton and Davis Lipscombe battle for second. No one had anything for Adams as he went on to score the opening night win.

“We knew when we made this change we were going to be fast and tonight we were, I can’t thank Sommey Lacey enough for the opportunity, commented Adams in victory lane.

Rounding out the top five were Billy Tucker, Tim Shelton and Andy Gregg. Joe Ender was the Pitts Lumber Rookie of the Race with a sixth place finish.

In other action rookie Brett Adkins of Gloucester, VA won the Truckin Thunder Sportsman feature; Brian Dobie of Partlow, VA took the lead on lap 12 on way to the Budwesier Modified win and in the Collision One Limited Stock 20 lap feature Brandon Sandridge of Mechanicsville, VA took the win in a wild finish.

In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 25 lap feature Davey Pullen and rookie Brett Adkins led the field to green with Pullen leading the first lap. On the next circuit Adkins went to the outside of Pullen in turn 1 to take the lead.

A caution on lap 8 bunched the field back up with Adkins leading Stephen Childress, J.R. Guy, Michael Roop and Taylor Doggett to green. Childress tried to get inside Adkins out of turn 2 making contact on the backstretch sending Childress to pit road with a flat tire.

Adkins would weather one more caution and several challenges by Guy to take home the win in his first race in the division. Rounding out the top five were J.R. Guy, Taylor Doggett, Davey Pullen and Michael Hayes. Brett Adkins was the Pitts Lumber rookie of the Race with his win.

In the Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature Brandon Galloway and Chris Arnold led the field to green with Galloway taking the lead out of turn 2. Arnold would take over the lead on lap 8 when Galloway pulled to pit road with a flat right rear tire. Arnold led the next four laps before Brian Dobie swept around his outside in turn 4 to take the lead. Once out front no one had anything for Dobie as he went on to record the victory followed by Page Harrison, Jimmy Duncan, Michael Reynolds and Chris Arnold rounding out the top five. Michael Reynolds was the Pitts Lumber rookie of the Race with his fourth place finish.

The Collision One Limited Stock Car 20 lap feature was the most exciting of the night. Brandon Sandridge and David Bowler led the field to green with the field going four wide down the back stretch and ending up in a caution that saw Stephen Childress, Marty Coltrain and Brett Adkins get together bringing out the caution. On the restart Sandridge got the jump on the field to lead the first lap. On the next circuit Wesley Givens worked inside Sandridge down the backstretch with the two racing door to door to the line where Givens took over the lead.

With two to go Sandridge began pressuring Givens for the lead and on the white flag Sandridge made his move getting inside Givens in Turn 3. The two made contact in turn 4 with Givens spinning down the front stretch and Sandridge picking up the win. Following Sandridge to the checkers were Brett Adkins, James Givens, Stephen Childress and Brian Maxey. Chad Martin was the Pitts Lumber rookie of the Race with his ninth place finish.
