Rain Forces Cancellation of Final Race of the Season
Jamaica, VA – Rain and the forecast for more thunderstorms has forced officials at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway to cancel Truckin Thunder / Collision One / WIGO Championship Night activities for Saturday, September 24th.
“This is not the way we wanted to end the season, but we have run out of weekends for the 2011 season. To say we are disappointed would be an understatement, this is the second time we have had to cancel Championship Night,� commented track General Manager Clarke Sawyer.
With the rain out the 2011 Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series track championships have been decided. In the Victory Lap Late Model division Scott Adams of Chester, VA wins his second consecutive late model title. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman division Todd Traylor of King William, VA wins his first title. In the Budweiser Modified division Dan Arnold of Petersburg, VA takes home his third consecutive modified title and in the Collision One Limited Stock Cars Wesley Givens of New Kent, VA will get his career first championship by one point.
The top ten in each division will be honored at the 2011 Awards Banquet to be held Saturday October 29, 2011 at the Virginia Beach Convention Center in Virginia Beach, VA. Information on the banquet can be found on the speedway website or by calling the speedway offices.
The action will now switch to the speedway’s state of the art mud bog facility. On Saturday October 1st The Pit at Virginia Motor Speedway will host the 7th Annual Run-A-Muck Mud Bog and Mud Sling presented by Rappahannock Tractor and the Virginia Army National Guard. Additional sponsorship provided by Davis Off Road, Monster Energy Drinks, NAPA of King William, ORI of Richmond, Collision One and Truckin Thunder.
There will be nine classes of “Mud Maniacs� in action ranging from stock to unlimited with cash payouts in all classes.
New for this year’s event will be the addition of the Pro Modified class. After discussions with both competitors and fans Pit officials have added the very exciting class to the line up. Rules for the new Pro Modified division are posted on the Pit’s website by next week.
Not only will fans get to see hordes of trucks splashing through the 200 foot Mud Bog pit but they will also get the opportunity to see some of the regions best Mud Dragsters covering the 200 foot Mud Sling pit in under three seconds.
The event will also include a car crushing monster truck freestyle show and Dennis Anderson and his new creation King Sling will be competing in the Unlimited Bog division; that is if it is still in one piece after he goes off in the Freestyle show he has scheduled! Dennis will also be signing autographs and selling souvenirs.
Gates and registration will open at 9am with Single Eliminations for Stock A, B; Modified A, B, C, Unlimited Bog, Pro Modified and X, XX classes beginning at 12 noon. Registration and inspection for Stock, Modified, Pro Modified and Unlimited Bog classes ends at 11:30pm with X and XX Unlimited ending at 1pm. Rules for each class are now available at The Pit website www.thepitatvms.com.
Admission for the 7th Annual Run-A-Muck Mud Bog and Mud Sling is Adults - $12, Children 7 – 17 years old - $10 and Children 6 and under FREE.
Competitors should visit www.thepitatvms.com to print off draw sheets and driver information sheets that must be filled out before going through for inspection.

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, an ASA Member Track, is a ½ mile dirt oval track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in Jamaica, VA.
