Speedway to Host Kids in Uniform Night Saturday August 7th; Championship Point Battles Tight

Jamaica, VA – After taking a week off Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway will return to racing on Saturday August 7th to host Truckin Thunder, Collision One, WNNT, WRAR Kids in Uniform Night presented by Amerigas. All kids in a baseball, softball, soccer, Boy Scout or Girl Scout uniform will be admitted free. It will be a night of exciting racing so bring the whole team or group.

The night’s activities will include the Victory Lap Late Models, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modifieds and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars in action.

Competitor gates for Saturday, August 7th will open at 4pm with spectator gates opening at 6pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm with hot laps. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday August 7th: Victory Lap Late Models (35 Laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (25 Laps); Budweiser Modifieds (25 Laps); and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars (20 laps). Steel Block Bandits will run heats, B Main(s) and Feature. All track divisions will run Hot Lap Time Trials and Features.

Adult admission is just $10, Senior $8, Military $5, Students 13 –17 yrs old $7, Children 7 – 12 yrs old $4 and Children 6 and under free.

Officials at Virginia Motor Speedway have announced that starting Saturday August 7th the gate opening times will be adjusted due to the recent high temperatures and the prospects for the same the rest of the summer. Starting Saturday August 7th the competitor gates will open at 4pm with spectator gates opening at 6pm. On track action with begin at 6:30pm with hot laps and features will start at 8pm

To enhance the fans racing experience the speedway has installed a short wave FM transmitter and all of the evening’s action can be heard at 95.5 FM. So bring your portable radio headset and enjoy hearing all the action.

POINTS BATTLES HEAT UP: The championship point battles couldn’t be more competitive right now in all four of the speedway’s Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series divisions. Scott Adams of Chester, VA continues to lead the Victory Lap Late Model point standings with a 28 point advantage over Tom Cohick of Gloucester, VA and Ben Bowie of Brandywine, MD. Stevie Long of Mechanicsville, MD is in fourth just 20 points out of first. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman defending Champion Roger Jamerson of Mechanicsville, VA reclaimed the point lead and now holds a 2 point advantage over Michael Roop of Stafford, VA. In the Budweiser Modifieds defending Champion Dan Arnold of Petersburg, VA closed to within 1 point of Brian Maxey of King George, VA and in the Collision One Limited Stock Car division there is a long jam at the top as three drivers share the top spot. Defending Champion Brett Adkins of Gloucester, VA, Ryan Toole of Richmond, VA and Kevin Fletcher of Saluda, VA are tied for the top spot just 5 points ahead of Joe Ender of Glen Allen, VA in fourth. In fact the top 10 in Limited Stock points are only separated by 50 points.

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, an ASA Member Track, is a ½ mile dirt oval track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in Jamaica, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads area.
