Chuck Bowie Scores Pro Late Model Victory at Virginia Motor Speedway; Lipscombe, Harris, and Maxey also Visit Victory Lane

Jamaica, VA – Chuck Bowie of Welcome, MD drove a perfect race, taking the lead on lap three from leader Vaughan Haywood and then held off Defending Champion Justin Williams to score his career first Victory Lap Pro Late Model victory at Virginia Motor Speedway. On the drop of the green flag, Bowie followed Haywood into second. Bowie got his chance to grab the lead with an inside move on Haywood in turn three on lap three. Once out front, Bowie would work traffic to perfection to keep Williams behind him in second. Several cautions were the only time Williams would have a chance to take the top spot from Bowie. “It wasn’t as easy as it looked; when you have Justin Williams behind you, you have to be smooth. I can’t thank my wife enough for giving me an amazing car tonight; we have been close this year, and to finally get the win is amazing. Especially with the caliber of talent, we have here,” commented winner Chuck Bowie in WhosYourDriver.org victory lane. Rounding out the top five were Justin Williams, Ray Love Jr., Matt Glanden, and Jeremy Pilkerton. In other action, Davis Lipscombe of Mechanicsville, VA, made it two in a row in the Truckin Thunder Sportsman division, taking the lead from fast qualifier Kacey Gordon of Fredericksburg, VA, on lap 11 and go on to the win. In the Budweiser Modified division Josh Harris of Gloucester, VA, held off Lance Grady for the victory. And in the Collision One Limited Stock Cars, Brian Maxey of Fredericksburg, VA, grabbed the lead from Ryan Hutchens on lap ten and then went on to his second win in a row. Jeff Solinger and Josh Harris led the Budweiser Modifieds to the green flag, with Harris leading the first lapped, followed by Brandon Galloway. Teammates Harris and Galloway would pull away from the field with Solinger, Chase Butler, defending champion Hunter McClendon, and Lance Grady, all in the battle for third. By lap 15, Grady had closed to within a couple of car lengths. On lap 16, Harris would make contact with a lapped car but kept his advantage over Grady. With 2 to go, Grady would make one last push to grab the top spot, but Harris was up to the task and went on to score the win. Rounding out the top five were Grady, Solinger, Butler, and Bret Hamilton. Davis Lipscombe of Mechanicsville, VA, has returned to the Truckin Thunder Sportsman division with a vengeance. After convincingly taking the week one win and having to wait an extra week due to a rainout, he returned and scored yet another convincing win. Lipscombe would work his way to the front by lap 8. Lipscombe went to work on Kacey Gordon for second; the two would get together on the front stretch with Gordon holding the spot. Ahead of them, leader Tyler Shipp would get out of shape out of turn 2, allowing Gordon to take the lead with Lipscombe following to second. As the two raced down the backstretch, they split a slower car with Lipscombe using the high side to take the lead. Once out front Lipscombe would stretch out his lead and go on to the win. Rounding the top five were Kacey Gordon, Tyler Shipp, Steve Causey, and Tim Shelton. Brian Maxey took over the top spot from Ryan Hutchens on lap ten after making several attempts. Once out front, Maxey worked traffic to perfection to go on to take his second win in a row. Rounding out the top five were Hutchens, Cory Bradley, Jay Seward, and Brandon Bowler. The speedway will take the Memorial Day Weekend off to celebrate with friends and family. The speedway will return on Saturday, June 5, and host week 4 of Dirt Series Championship Weekly Racing action featuring the Victory Lap Pro Late Models, Budweiser Modifieds, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, and Collision One Limited Stock Cars in action. Brandon Overton Scores $20,000 Virginia Is For Racing Lovers King of the Commonwealth Victory; Carson Ferguson Scores $3000 FASTRAK Win

Jamaica, VA – Brandon Overton of Evans, GA, is making a habit of winning at Virginia Motor Speedway. With the Virginia Is For Racing Lovers King of the Commonwealth win, Overton has now won the last three marquee events in a row at the ½ mile speed plant. Overton would fall back to ninth before working his way back to the front, passing Jimmy Ownes of Newport, TN, on lap 40 for the lead. Overton would fend off Owens with ten laps to go to score his second career, King of the Commonwealth triumph, and $20,000 paycheck in front of a fantastic crowd. The win did not come easily for Overton, however. Overton fell back in the field in the early stages, conserving his tires and equipment in the 60-lap feature for a late charge. However, even Overton believed he might have given up too much at the start of the race. “I sure know how to make it hard on myself,” said Overton in victory lane. I was sitting in a pretty good spot, and I had a game plan. I was just going to sit there and take it easy for a little bit. I got back to about eighth or ninth and said, ‘Damn, I’ve really screwed this up.’ My car was really good. I just kept the tires on it and made sure I didn’t wad it up when I fell back a little bit.” Overton has now won $90,000 across Virginia Motor Speedway’s last three marquee Dirt Late Model events with the win. While the track’s 2020 season was lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Overton won the $20,000 USA 100 and the $50,000 FASTRAK World Championship in 2019. “I love this place, man. I love racing here. I always seem to do good. There was a lot of pressure going into this weekend; there were a lot of good cars here. I’m just really fortunate to drive good race cars for good people.” G.R. Smith of Cornelious, NC, started on the pole and led the first 34 laps before a mechanical issue (lost driveshaft) forced him to the infield for the night, handing the lead over to Owens. Over the next six laps, Overton made several attempts to get by Owens for the lead, finally securing the top spot with a pass out of turn 2 to take over the top spot. Owens would finish second to Overton, making the most of the last-minute decision to compete for the Virginia Is For Racing Lovers King of the Commonwealth crown but falling short of the $20,000 prize. “It was definitely last-minute,” said Owens. “We didn’t know what we were going to do. I actually forgot about this race here, then I was like, Maybe we can capitalize on $20,000-to-win. Ownes added, “the car was really great tonight. We probably just went a little too hard, too early. We had a pretty good car at the end, but not as good as Brandon’s. Hats off to him; he had a great weekend.” Josh Richards of Shinnston, WV, finished third after making the long haul to Virginia for the King of the Commonwealth. Richards held second twice, both times battling Smith for the lead but couldn’t get by to take the top spot. “I drove 985 miles to get here. I just can’t thank these guys enough. I hadn’t been here in 10 years. We had a pretty good car there. I was hoping to get by G.R. [Smith] earlier; we might have been able to ride it out a little bit. I think I got my tire hot and couldn’t fire good enough on those restarts. I was next to Brandon and then Jimmy. I was able to hold on to third there.” Rounding out the top five were Tim McCreadie and Gregg Satterlee. Heats race winners were G.R. Smith, Tim McCreadie, Brandon Overton, and Josh Richards. B Main winners were Dustin Mitchell and Ross Bailes. The competitors of the FASTRAK Racing Series powered by Chevrolet Performance put on what could be considered the race of the night as Carson Ferguson, Jeremey Pilkerton, Ray Love, Matt Quade, and Justin Williams battled in three and four-wide at times for the top spot. Carson Ferguson of Charlotte, NC, the 2018 FASTRAK national touring champion, held off an emotionally charged drive by Jeremy Pilkerton, who was racing with a lot of emotions after his father Jeff suffered a heart attack last weekend. For Ferguson, the opening laps were stressful as he swapped the lead with Ray Love Jr multiple times over the first ten laps. Once out front, Ferguson had to work through heavy traffic to maintain his lead over the battle for second place. The second and final caution came out with a hand full of laps giving Pilkerton another shot at the top spot. On the final restart, Ferguson would survive several challenges from Pilkerton and a hard-charging Justin Williams to secure the $3000 Virginia Is For Racing Lover King of the Commonwealth victory. His second special event victory at the pristine Virginia Motor Speedway came a little different than his first, this time having the dominant car. His first came in May of 2019 when coming to the checkers, then-leader Layton Sullivan blew his right rear tire coming to the checkers, handing the lead, and win to Ferguson. Jamaica, VA – After much discussion and thought, speedway management has decided to cancel racing activities for Saturday, April 24, due to the high probability of rain for the weekend. “We have a lot of competitors and fans who travel an enormous amount of highway miles to attend our events,” said track owner Bill Sawyer. “We don’t want anyone to have the burden of making a long trip for nothing.” The Speedway will return to host the first of two mud bogs for the 2021 season next Saturday, May 1, with the 12th Annual Mud Mayhem presented by Atlantic Broadband, James River Equipment, and WhosYourDriver.org. Jamaica, VA – After a very successful Thursday Night Thunder event, Virginia Motor Speedway officials are excited to return to weekly racing this Saturday, April 24th. The racing on opening night at the ½ mile speed plant in Jamaica, VA, was fantastic in all four of the speedway’s Dirt Series Championship weekly divisions. The night will feature the Victory Lap Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified, and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in some exciting side-by-side action. Justin Williams Scores Victory Lap Pro Late Model Win in Return to Racing at Virginia Motor Speedway; Lipscombe, McClenden, and Maxey Also Score Opening Night Victories

Jamaica, VA – After a year off due to the COVID-19 pandemic Virginia Motor Speedway got back to racing with a large car count and a great crowd on hand to see Victory Lap Late Model Champion Justin Williams of Concord, VA pick up where he left off in 2019, with a win. “We have been waiting on the 2021 schedule to come out to see if I was going to take another year off from racing, we were pumped to see it come out. To get the win tonight, in front of a crowd like tonight, is amazing and exciting,” commented Williams in WhosYourDriver.org victory lane. Williams would sweep the outside of Corey Almond of Appomattox, VA on lap 2 to take the lead, one he would not relinquish over the remaining 33 laps. Williams would take the checkers 2. 709 seconds over Almond, followed by Jeremy Pilkerton, fast qualifier Matt Quade, and Matt Glanden. In other action Davis Lipscombe of Mechanicsville, VA took home the win in dominating fashion after returning to the division after a four year absence. In the Budweiser Modified feature defending champion Hunter McClendon of Williamsburg, VA passed Joey Polevoy of Powhatan, VA on lap 8 of the 25 lap feature and went on to score the win. And in the Collision One Limited Stock Car feature Brian Maxey of King George, VA returned to the division after a four year absence to take home a dominating win. A stellar field of Victory Lap Pro late Model took the green flag with defending champion Justin Williams of Concord, VA getting around Corey Almond on lap 2 to take the lead in the 35 lap feature. Williams would pull away from Almond by a little over a second. Behind the two leaders the battle for third began to heat up between fast qualifier Matt Quade, Jeremy Pilkerton, Matt Glanden, and Trevor Collins. With Williams showing the way with laps winding down, Almond worked to keep pace with Quade and Pilkerton in a tight battle for third. Quade and Pilkerton would exchange the third spot on multiple occasions before Pilkerton would claim the spot for good. Williams looked like his old self by taking the win over Almond, Pilkerton, Quade, and Glanden. After four years away from the Truckin Thunder Sportsman division, Davis Lipscombe of Mechanicsville, VA picked up where he left off, by taking the win in dominating fashion. Lipscombe set fast time but was inverted back to fourth with the pill pull. It didn’t take him long to catch leader Matt Meads. On lap 5 Lipscombe pulled up to the back end of Meads and tried several times on the bottom to take the lead. On lap 7 Lipscombe shot to the outside of Meads in Turn 3 and 4 taking the lead by inches at the line. Once out front Lipscombe began pulling away from the battle for second. With 5 laps remaining Tim Shelton began his assault to the front with a pass on Kacey Gordon. Coming to the white flag Shelton got inside Meads for second but had nothing for Lipscombe who took home the win by a full straight away. Rounding out the top five where Shelton, Meads, Gordon, and Steve Causey. It took defending champion Hunter McClendon of Williamsburg, VA six laps to catch then leader Joey Polevoy of Powhatan, VA in the Budweiser Modified feature. On lap 8, while in traffic McClendon took the lead from Polevoy in heavy traffic taking over the top spot on lap 8. Once out front McClendon would pull away from the field. Behind him the battle for third on back between Bret Hamilton, Chase Polevoy, and Josh Harris. Butler would finally take over the third spot while the battle for the lead heated up. With five laps to go McClendon began racing in heavy traffic, at one point going three wide with slower traffic. That allowed Polelvoy to close the gap before getting caught up in that same lapped traffic which allowed McClendon to cruise on to the win. Rounding out the top five were Polevoy, Butler, Harris, and Lance Grady. In the Collision One Limited Stock Car 25 lap feature fast qualifier Brian Maxey started sixth with the pill pull, it only took him 2 laps to get to the front, taking the lead from Trent Clemons with an outside pass in turn 3. Once out front Maxey began to pull away from the battle for second on back. Johnny Brooks, Trent Clemons, and Ryan Hutchens all took turns at running second behind Maxey. With the laps winding down the only thing to slow Maxey were three cautions that closed the field on his back bumper for a brief moment. Maxey would go on to take home a dominating win in his return to the division after a four year absence. Rounding out the top five were Givens, Cory Bradley, Ryan Hutchens, and Trent Clemons. The speedway will return to racing Saturday, April 15th to host Thursday Night Thunder featuring Tony Stewart and the All Star Circuit of Champions 410 sprint car series. Speedway Releases 2021 Marquee Event Dates

Fans are sure to want to mark their calendars for what will be another stellar year for special events at the ½ mile speed plant in Jamaica, VA. Thursday Night Thunder will once again feature the All Star Circuit of Champions sprint car series in action. The UMP Modified division will also be the support class for this must-see event. On Saturday, May 15th, the always exciting Ultimate Super Late Model Series will return for the $20,000 to win Virginia is for Racing Lovers King of the Commonwealth and a $3000 to win FASTRAK National event for Pro Late Models. August 7th, the Ultimate Super Late Model Series stars and cars will return for Ernie Shelton’s 45th Annual USA 100 and pay $20,000 to win. There will also be a $3000 to win FASTRAK National event for Pro Late Models. The FASTRAK Touring Series competitors will get one more chance to get dialed in for the $25,000 to win FASTRAK World Championship on Saturday, August 21st, with the $3000 to win Prelude to the World Championship. Speedway to Host Richest Weekend in Pro Late Model History This Friday and Saturday, September 13-14

Jamaica, VA – Pro Late Model racing’s richest weekend has gotten richer, as Virginia Motor Speedway will host the richest Pro Late Model event in history when they host the $50,000 to win FASTRAK World Championship presented by James River Equipment. The historic weekend will take place this Friday and Saturday, September 13 – 14, 2019 at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica, VA. “What a way to end out 50th anniversary season, with the richest short track race in the State of Virginia’s history,” commented track owner Bill Sawyer. Sawyer continued, “With $50,000 on the line and with this also being filmed for TV, we are going to see some of the country’s top Pro Late Models drivers in attendance. This event will be one race you do not want to miss.” Track officials are busy preparing the facilities for what is expected to be another record car count. The weekend will put the spotlight squarely on the country’s best Pro Late Model drivers. This mega race will pay the winner a whopping $50,000. With a total payout of over $170,000, it is the richest weekend in all of Pro Late Model history. The weekend will also include a $6000 to win and $600 to start the Dirt Cup Challenge UMP Modified event. This race will be a UMP National Point event. It all kicks off Friday, September 13th with registration, tech, practice and two sets of heats for both the FASTRAK Pro Late Model competitors as well as the Dirt Cup Challenge UMP Modified competitors to set the top 16 spots in both features. The following night Saturday, September 14 the FASTRAK Pro Late Model competitors will have B Main(s), the 75 lap $50,000 feature and up to four (4) non-qualifier races based on car count. The UMP Modified competitors will have B Main(s) and the 50 lap, $6000 to win feature. The event is open to all Pro Late Model competitors. FASTRAK rules will apply. In the event of rain, Sunday, September 15th is currently scheduled as the rain date. Two-day adult tickets are $45, senior (60+) $40 and military $35, students (13-17) $15.
