$20,000 to win Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth Set for Saturday April 14

Jamaica, VA – In a matter of days some of the region’s top dirt late model talent will converge on Virginia Motor Speedway for one of the year’s biggest events, the $20,000 to win Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth. Saturday April 14th Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway will host the largest short track event in the State of Virginia. That means some of the best dirt late model drivers on the East Coast will be making the trip to the ½ mile speed plant located in Jamaica, VA. The event will be sanctioned by the Ultimate Super Late Model Series and will feature a 60 lap A-Main paying the winner a cool $20,000. The event will also feature a $3000 to win FASTRAK Racing Series powered by Chevrolet Performance race for Pro Late Model competitors. “If you are a fan of short track racing you do not want to miss this event; the best dirt late model racers on the East Coast will be vying for that huge $20,000 check in one of the biggest short track events in the State of Virginia,” commented track owner Bill Sawyer. Speedway to Host FASTRAK World Championship This Friday and Saturday

Jamaica, VA – The much anticipated FASTRAK World Championship weekend is just mere days away. Track officials are busy preparing the facilities for what is expected to be a record car count. The weekend will put the spotlight squarely on the country’s best Pro Late Model drivers. This year the stakes are higher as the winner’s share was increased to $20,000. With a total payout over $80,000, it is the richest weekend in all of Pro Late Model racing. The weekend kicks off with Friday’s FASTRAK World Challenge, a members only $5,000 to win, 40 lap race. Members are required to have competed in at least ten FASTRAK sanctioned events in the 2017 season. The following night is the FASTRAK World Championship presented by James River Equipment, a $20,000 to win 60 lap feature event that is open to all Pro Late Model competitors. In the event of rain, Sunday September 17th is currently scheduled as the rain date. The Southeast Dirt Modified Series will also host their final event of the season and crown a champion in the $3000 to win Southeast Modified Championship. Overton Scores $20,000 to win Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth presented by Essex Concrete Win; Davenport Takes $3000 FASTRAK Pro Late Model Win

(PR Contribution from Roby Helm) Jamaica, VA – Brandon Overton of Evans, GA drove the Randy Weaver Racing #116 to its second straight Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth presented by Essex Concrete win on Saturday night and pocketed $20,000 in the Aaron’s King of Commonwealth at Virginia Motor Speedway. Overton battled with Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA early and often before taking the lead for good on lap 28 of the 60-lap race. “That race car could have driven itself around there tonight; Jonathan (Davenport) showed me how to get around turn one and I got behind in lapped traffic and then turned it around on him later,” commented Overton in victory lane. Overton added “I just got my first $10,000 win and now a $20,000 win, it is kinda unreal I can’t thank Randy Weaver and the crew for giving me the chance to drive this car.” After starting on the outside of the front row, Davenport took the lead from polesitter Overton with a crossover move to the inside coming off the second turn on the first lap that saw Marlar, Madden and Hubbard in third through fifth respectively. One crossover move is worth another, as Overton returned the favor on Davenport to take the lead on lap two, as McDowell got by Hubbard for the fifth spot. The caution flag was unfurled for the first time on lap three when 2016 ULTIMATE SE Rookie of the Year Glenn Elliott spun in turn four. Marlar gave up the third spot on the track to pit under caution. Overton pulled in front of Davenport on lap seven, and Madden worked his way back around Hubbard for the third spot. Davenport made an inside move on Overton coming off the fourth turn on lap nine to take the lead. Hubbard and Madden were still contesting the third spot, with Hubbard reclaiming the position on the 11th lap. Davenport reached the cars on the tail end of the lead lap on lap 13, and McDowell got around Madden to take the fourth spot on lap 15. Overton chased down Davenport in lapped traffic, and began to challenge for the lead on lap 20. McDowell and Madden got by Hubbard to move up to third and fourth respectively on lap 20. Davenport was able to keep Overton behind him in lapped traffic, but once they had clear race track in front of them, Overton dove to the inside going into turn three on lap 28 to take the lead from Davenport. McDowell then closed on Davenport and they raced side-by-side for second on lap 30. Elliott brought out the caution flag for a second time on lap 32 to bunch up the field for a restart. By lap 35, Overton had pulled out to a half straightaway lead over McDowell. Marlar moved into the top five again on lap 38 when he got around Ferguson. The final caution flag of the race came out on lap 44 for debris in turn four. Overton led McDowell, Davenport, Marlar, Madden, Ferguson and Hubbard double-file back to the green flag. Marlar passed Davenport for the third spot on lap 45, and with ten laps to go, Overton had once again opened up a half straightaway lead over McDowell. Overton found himself in lapped traffic on lap 53. Overton had increased his lead over McDowell to a full straightaway on lap 55. At the checkered flag, Overton was out of sight of McDowell and took the checkered flag with a 4.175 second margin of victory. In the FASTRAK Racing Pro Late Model $3000 to win feature Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA, one of only a few drivers pulling double duty, returned to his dirt late model roots Saturday night and won the Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth presented by Essex Concrete 40. After starting on the outside of the front row for the main event, Davenport took the lead and never looked back. The driver known as “Superman” led all 40 laps for the win driving the C&H Paving Barry Wright “House Car.” “We’re off to a good start this year with our Chevrolet Performance Circle Track Engine program, as we’re three for three so far this season,” Davenport said. “Now, if we could just get some of that success to rub off on our super late model program we would be in good shape.” A pair of multi-car wrecks in turn one on the first two attempts to start the race accounted for two of the five caution flags in the event. Once everyone settled into a race pace, Davenport took the lead from his outside front row starting spot, followed by polesitter Ford, Justin Williams, Ron Parker of Belwood, NC in the Schaeffer Oil Rocket and Nance. Parker passed Williams for third on lap two, and by lap seven, Davenport had opened up a half straightaway lead on Ford. By the ninth lap, Davenport caught the cars on the tail end of the lead lap, but that didn’t slow him down at all. Williams began to fade a little on lap ten, as Nance passed him for fourth, and Knight got by him for the fifth spot on lap 12. Nance had a good run going, as he worked his way around Parker for the third position on the 14th tour. The field slowed for a caution flag on lap 16 when Beachler stalled in turn one. The double-file restart saw Davenport leading Ford, Nance, Parker, Knight, Bare, Justin Williams, Arthur, Hicks and Frankie Beard of Hartwell, GA in the Jessica Cornett Racing/CMP Automotive Mastersbilt in the second through tenth spots respectively for the restart. On the restart, Ford pushed up high in turn four, and hit the guardrail on the front straightaway. That caused Arthur to get sideways, and grab a handful of steering wheel. Arthur didn’t hit anyone, or anything, and the field stayed green with a major shuffle behind the leader Davenport. The caution flag came back out on lap 19 when teammates Matthew Quade of Mechanicsville, MD in the Northern Neck Chevrolet Rocket and Jared Powell of Scottsville, VA in the Northern Neck Chevrolet Rocket tangled with Corey Almond of Appomattox, VA in the Ditch Witch Longhorn in turn two. On the restart, Bare got by Nance for the second spot in turn two, and Hornsby, after restarting in the seventh spot, made a big move and passed Nance for third on the front straightaway on lap 20. Nance fell back to fifth on lap 23 when Ford got by for the fourth spot. Davenport encountered lapped traffic on lap 28 with a 15 car-length lead on Bare. By lap 30, Davenport had once again opened back up a half straightaway lead. Debris in turn four on lap 33 lit up the yellow bulb for a final time. With the field bunched up single file behind him, Davenport was once again up to the task, and led the seven lap dash to the finish. The Speedway will return to racing next Saturday April 15th and host week 2 of the Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship weekly racing action featuring the Victory Lap Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions. Speedway to Host Fastrak World Championship September 16-17, 2016; Extends Partnership with FASTRAK for Three More Years

Jamaica, VA – The excitement level and anticipation for one of the tracks premier events is at an all time high as Virginia Motor Speedway gets ready to host the $15,000 to win Aaron’s Fastrak World Championships presented by James River Equipment and Commonwealth Motorsports. The September 16-17, 2016 weekend will feature two complete shows for the FASTRAK Chevrolet Performance Late Models, Friday September 16 will be the $5000 to win, 40 lap World Challenge and on September 17 $15,000 to win, 60 lap World Championship is the “Super Bowl” of Chevrolet Performance Late Models and will crown a “World Champion”. Speedway and FASTRAK officials are also pleased to announce that the track has exercised its three year option and will be the host track of the FASTRAK World Championship for another three years. “We are excited to know that the FASTRAK World Championship is remaining at Virginia Motor Speedway for the next three years. I can’t thank Bill Sawyer enough for believing in what we are doing with the Chevrolet Performance Late Model division,” commented FASTRAK founder/owner Stan Lester. Joining the program on Saturday September 17th will be the first visit by the Southeast Dirt Modified Series for the $3000 to win “Southeast Modified Showdown”. The speedway is offering a tremendous two-day ticket price of only $40. The special ticket will only be sold on Friday September 16th. USA 100 Falls to Rain Again

Jamaica, VA – After an 1 ½ hour rain delay and a yeoman’s effort at trying to get the racing surface back into shape officials of Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway and the Ultimate Super Late Model Series had to make the difficult decision to cancel the $20,000 to win 40th Annual Aaron’s USA 100 presented by Commonwealth Motorsports. This is the second time this year that the USA 100 has fallen to rain. “We did all we could do to try and race tonight, we can’t thank the fans and competitors that came out to support us tonight for their support and patience throughout the night. We wanted desperately to get the USA 100 and the final race of the Colonial Clash Championship presented by Dirt Nation in tonight,” commented track owner Bill Sawyer. The day looked promising with a packed pit area for the USA 100. After hot laps for the Modifieds, FASTRAK Pro Late Models and two sessions of Ultimate Super Late Model Series hot laps the rains came and stuck around for an hour and a half. Track and Series officials waited out the rain and then worked to get the track into racing shape. With the high humidity the more the track staff ran the track in the more moisture came to the top making for a very dangerous situation. It was determined at that time that there was no way to get the track back thus, forcing the cancellation. “You can’t do anything about Mother Nature. The track did an outstanding job trying to get this race in tonight for our Ultimate Super Late Model and FASTRAK competitors, you can’t ask any more of a track staff, “ commented FASTRAK / Ultimate Super Late Model Series Owner Stan Lester. Lester added, “I hate that we couldn’t get in the final race of the Colonial Clash Championship but we did pay out the point fund to those that followed the mini-series. I also hate that we couldn’t honor Dale Hollidge as the Colonial Clash Championship Champion on the front stretch. I have to thank the track staff for trying to get this in and the drivers for their patience during the evening”. The speedway will return to racing next Saturday August 13 for MetroCast Night and week twelve of the Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship season featuring the Victory Lap Late Models, Budweiser Modifieds, Truckin Thunder Sportsman and Collision One Limited Stock Cars in action. Speedway to host the 40th Annual Aaron’s USA 100 This Saturday August 6th; Final Race of the Colonial Clash Championship

Jamaica, VA – After a two month wait the stars are cars of the Ultimate Super Late Model Series will finally get the green flag for the $20,000 to win 40th Annual Aaron’s USA 100 presented by Commonwealth Motorsports and what will be a phenomenal night of racing at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway this Saturday August 6th. Mother Nature caused the rescheduling of the event from its original scheduled date of June 4th with some pretty nasty weather. Officials of both the speedway and the series worked diligently to reschedule the USA 100 and now the time has come to see who can take home the $20,000 winners check, the “famous” eagle trophy and also see who will be crowned the inaugural Colonial Clash Championship presented by Dirt Nation Champion. Ernie Shelton’s USA 100 is now the final event of the four race mini-series the Colonial Clash Championship. The previous events were held at Georgetown Speedway in Georgetown, DE, Potomac Speedway in Budds Creek, MD Winchester Speedway in Winchester, VA. The Colonial Clash Championship boasts a $17,000 point fund with $5000 going to the champion. The point fund pays the top 15 drivers as long as they have attempted all four events. Dirt Track Saturday Night Equals Exciting, Heart Pounding Racing

Jamaica, VA – After a very successful opening night to the 47th season at Virginia Motor Speedway all four Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship divisions are set to be back in action this Saturday April 30th for Dirt Track Saturday Night. The evening will feature the Victory Lap Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in some exciting side by side action. In opening night action Davis Lipscombe of Mechanicsville, VA held off Walker Arthur of Forest, VA for the victory in Victory Lap Pro Late Model action while Brian Maxey of King George, VA brought home the win in Budweiser Modifieds, Matt Ashworth of Mechanicsville, VA took home the checkers in Truckin Thunder Sportsman action and Ryan Hutchens of Providence Forge, VA grab the win in Collision One Limited Stock Cars. Competitor gates for Saturday April 30th will open at 4pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm with hot laps. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday: Victory Pro Late Models (30 Laps); Budweiser Modifieds (25 Laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (25 laps) and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars (20 laps). All divisions will run Hot Lap Time Trials and Features. Admission price for Adults $12, seniors (60+) $10; military (active/retired w/ proper I.D.) $8, students 11 – 17 years old $6 and children 10 and under admitted free. Pit passes will be $20. To enhance the fans racing experience the speedway has installed a short wave FM transmitter and all of the evening’s action can be heard at 95.5 FM. This Saturday April 16th the speedway will once again attempt to get the track’s 47th season underway with WRAR / WNNT Night. The evening will feature all four of the track’s Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship weekly division in action. See the Victory Lap Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in some exciting side by side action.
