Meyers takes Paul Sawyer Memorial; Long repeats as Victory Lap Late Model feature winner

Jamaica, VA – After two very disappointing events in Pennsylvania Jason Meyers of Clovis, CA rolled into Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway for the NAPA of King William and Tappahannock Paul Sawyer Memorial hoping that a track that has been good to him could turn his fortunes around. At nights end Meyers had beat back his gremlins to pick up his fifth win of the season on the very tough World of Outlaws tour. Jason Sides and Joey Saldana led the field to green with Sides taking control of the event pulling away from the field from the drop of the green. On lap seven Jason Meyers would work the outside of Saldana taking the spot out of turn 2. Myers then set out to catch Sides who was now working lapped traffic....

Long takes Victory Lap Late Model victory; Traylor, Maxey and Toole also victorious on WRAR/WNNT Night

Jamaica, VA – With a new baby in his household there was added incentive to bring home a Victory Lap Late Model victory for Stevie Long of Mechanicsville, MD. With a very strong tenth place starting ride Long worked his way to the lead by lap 7 as he out dueled rookie Matt Marshall to the line to take the top spot. Once out front Long was on cruise control in his #44 Advance Metal Concepts. Dean Guy Masonry, Quality Auto Body, Clarke’s Landing, Triple K Fence sponsored Rocket, leading by as much as a full straightaway. With three to go the races fifth and final caution closed the field on longs bumper. On the final restart Marshall took a peak to his inside in turn 1 but that was all he would get as he worked to fend off Davis Lipscombe for second with Long motoring on to the victory....

Madden remains perfect with World of Outlaws Late Model Series $25,000 Commonwealth 100 win

JAMAICA, VA – There’s just something special about the relationship between Chris Madden of Gaffney, SC and Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway. Three visits have resulted in three wins, the latest the biggest of all as he took the lead with eight laps to go in route to a $25,000 payday in the inaugural Commonwealth 100 in front of a packed house. “This is just an amazing place and tonight we just made the right call on tires and it paid off big,” commented a very excited Madden in victory lane. Darrell Lanigan of Union, KY looked to be the class of the field as he dominated the first 91 laps of the event. On a lap 91 restart Madden made a bonsai move on the outside of Langian to take the lead only to give it back when caution came out for Austin Hubbard who had come to rest in turn 1. On the next restart Madden dove to the bottom of four getting under Lanigan but caution would once again come out this time for the leader Lanigan who cut down a tire. On the races final restart it was Madden got a good jump on second place Jimmy Owens while Jonathan Davenport took the third spot form Steve Francis.  Madden would prove to be too strong ove the final eight laps taking home the $25,000 winners check. In other action Chris Ferguson of Mt. Holly, NC took home the $3000 check in the Rumbleon Ther River 30 lap non-qualifiers race over Dan Stone, D.J Meyers, 20th stating Jamie Lathroum and Dave Zona rounding out the top five. Rain Forces Cancellation of WRAR/WNNT Night Activities at Virginia Motor Speedway

Jamaica, VA – Rain and the forecast for more thunderstorms has forced officials at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway to cancel WRAR/WNNT Night activities for Saturday, April 24th. “We are tremendously disappointed that Mother Nature has forced us to cancel our first event of the year for our Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series divisions. But with the current rain and the threat of more severe weather on the way coupled with the price of gas we feel it is in everyone’s best interest to cancel tonight’s racing program,” commented track General Manager Clarke Sawyer. The speedway will take the weekend of May 1st off due to the NASCAR events at Richmond International Raceway and return to racing Saturday May 8th with the rescheduled WRAR/WNNT Night at the races. The evenings events will include four divisions of exciting high octane, side by side dirt track racing. See the Victory Lap Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in action. Competitor gates for Saturday, May 8th will open at 3pm with spectator gates opening at 4pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm with hot laps. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday: Victory Lap Late Models (35 Laps); Budweiser Modifieds (25 Laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (25 laps) and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars (20 laps).
