Virginia Motor Speedway 2020 marquee events announced

Jamaica, VA – Virginia Motor Speedway officials have released the dates for the speedway’s marquee events. Fans are sure to want to mark their calendars for what will be another stellar year for special events at the ½ mile speed plant in Jamaica, VA. The season’s first marquee event will be held Thursday, April 16th, with the return of 410 sprint cars for a $10,000 to win, $1000 to start event. Thursday Night Thunder will once again feature the All Star Circuit of Champions sprint car series in action. The UMP Modified division will again be the support class for this must-see event. May 30th sees the return of the Ultimate Super Late Model Series for the $20,000 to win King of the Commonwealth along with a $3000 to win FASTRAK National event for Pro Late Models. After being rained out in 2019 speedway officials are eager to host this marquee event. August 1st, the Ultimate Super Late Model Series stars, and cars will return for the 44th Annual USA 100 and pay $20,000 to win. There will also be a $3000 to win FASTRAK National event for Pro Late Models. The FASTRAK Racing Series Touring Series competitors will get one more chance to get dialed in for the $50,000 to win FASTRAK World Championship on Saturday, August 22nd, with the $3000 to win Prelude to the World Championship. The event will mark the third $3000 to win event of the season for the Pro Late Model division. With the success of the 2019 FASTRAK World Championship track owner Bill Sawyer announced that the event would once again make history and pay a whopping $50,000 to win and $2050 to start Friday and Saturday, September 18-19, 2020. With 113 of the country’s best Pro Late Models in attendance for the 2019 edition, everyone is excited to see what 2020 has to offer. The UMP Modified division will be the support division once again. “We are thrilled to be returning to Virginia Motor Speedway for four great race events in 2020. Severe Weather Forecast Forces Cancellation of $20,000 to win King of the Commonwealth

Jamaica, Virginia – With the impending severe weather forecast, for the local area and much if not all the East Coast, management of Virginia Motor Speedway, Ultimate Super Late Model Series and FASTRAK Racing have made the difficult decision to cancel the April 20th $20,000 to win King of the Commonwealth. “With over 3 inches of rain and the forecast for damaging high winds and possible tornado’s this evening and into the early morning hours we have unfortunately made the decision to cancel tomorrows event.” said Virginia Motor owner Bill Sawyer. Sawyer added, “with the severe weather threat we just can’t predict what is going to happen, so we had to make this decision with the safety of our fans and competitors in mind.” The local forecast is calling for winds gusting to 75 mph, tornado warnings and three inches of rain. With an already saturated grounds it really makes it a task daunting to get the parking areas and track ready for such a big event. “Unfortunately, Mother Nature is once again forcing us to make a decision. With the treat of severe weather up and down the East Coast we feel that this is the best decision for the teams, fans and officials, al lot of which are traveling considerable distances to attend the King of the Commonwealth. Above all else, we must keep everyone’s safety in mind,” commented FASTRAK International Companies Vice-President DJ Irvine. Virginia Motor Speedway will now switch gears to its weekly racing season next Saturday April 27th featuring the Victory Lap Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in their first race of the season. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday April 27th: Victory Pro Late Models (33 Laps); Budweiser Modifieds (30 Laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (30 laps) and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars (25 laps). DAVENPORT SCORES $20,000 KING OF THE COMMONWEALTH VICTORY; BAILES TAKES FASTRAK CHECKERS AND $3000 PAYDAY

JAMAICA, VA – The Ultimate Super Late Model Series made their return to Virginia Motor Speedway Saturday April 14th for the annual Aaron’s King of The Commonwealth where the event saw 56 competitors sign in all trying to capture a $20,000 payday. Holding off a final lap challenge from Scott Bloomquist; Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville; Georgia went flag to flag Saturday night at Virginia Motor Speedway to take home a $20,000 payday. “We went with a little different tire tonight, me Kevin and Jason went back and forth, back and forth. We’ve all been hear a lot and we know what you normally put on, but it just looked a little different tonight for some reason, and the choice really worked out good for us,” commented Davenport in WhosYourDriver.org victory lane. Davenport added, “Scott came on there at the end and he was so good the whole race and it’s definitely a pleasure racing up there with him and finally getting a win,” Scott Bloomquist, Chris Madden, Tim McCreadie, and Brandon Overton rounded out the top five finishers. In other action Ross Bailes would grab the lead on lap 19 from Justin Williams and go on to take the $3000 victory in the FASTRAK Racing Series powered by Chevrolet Performance tour event. On the drop of the green flag up the Ultimate Super Late Model feature Jonathan Davenport rocketed from the outside to take the lead from polesitter Scott Bloomquist heading out of turn 2. Once out front Davenport started to put some distance between himself and the battle for second between Bloomquist and Chris Madden. On lap 39 Madden managed to get by Bloomquist and set out to catch Davenport as they raced through traffic. On lap 42 the driver on the move was Tim McCreadie working his way up from his fifteenth starting position to take 4th from Austin Hubbard. On lap 50 Madden closed in on Davenport as the two worked traffic. On lap 55 Bloomquist got back by Madden for second as the two raced out of turn 4. With two laps to go Bloomquist had pulled to within striking distance of Davenport. On the final lap Davenport had Bloomquist looking to his outside and as they entered turn 3 Bloomquist tried to sweep the outside only to have the car drift op the track just enough to give Davenport enough advantage to take the $20,000 victory. Scott Bloomquist, Chris Madden, Tim McCreadie, and Brandon Overton rounded out the top five finishers. Scott Bloomquist set fast time in qualifying with a time of 17.156 seconds to earn the Davis Diesel Service fast qualifier award. Heat race winners included Scott Bloomquist, Jonathan Davenport, Chris Madden, Jason Colvert, Austin Hubbard, and Tyler Millwood. Consolation race winners included Tyler Erb and Tyler Bare. In the FASTRAK Racing Series powered by Chevrolet Performance tour feature Brett Hamm and Justin Williams led the field to green with Hamm leading the first circuit. Two laps into the race the first caution flew for a multi-car wreck in turn 4 that took out several drivers in the top 10. On the restart Hamm would hold the lead with Williams on his tail. On lap 8 Williams would work his way around Hamm for the lead and looked to be the car to beat, but nobody told that to Ross Bailes who was working his way through the field. On lap 19 Bailes got by Williams for the lead and began to pull away from the field. On lap 33 Williams would go up in smoke with a blown motor and set up a seven-lap dash for the win. On the final restart of the race Bailes was able to fend off the challenges of Matt Long and Logan Roberson to grab the $3000 victory. Long, Roberson, Matthew Nance and Corey Almond rounded out the top five. The speedway will take the weekend of April 21 off due to the NASCAR events at Richmond Raceway and return to action Saturday April 28th with WRAR / WNNT Night at the Races and the opening weekend of Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship weekly racing. Overton Scores $20,000 to win Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth presented by Essex Concrete Win; Davenport Takes $3000 FASTRAK Pro Late Model Win

(PR Contribution from Roby Helm) Jamaica, VA – Brandon Overton of Evans, GA drove the Randy Weaver Racing #116 to its second straight Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth presented by Essex Concrete win on Saturday night and pocketed $20,000 in the Aaron’s King of Commonwealth at Virginia Motor Speedway. Overton battled with Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA early and often before taking the lead for good on lap 28 of the 60-lap race. “That race car could have driven itself around there tonight; Jonathan (Davenport) showed me how to get around turn one and I got behind in lapped traffic and then turned it around on him later,” commented Overton in victory lane. Overton added “I just got my first $10,000 win and now a $20,000 win, it is kinda unreal I can’t thank Randy Weaver and the crew for giving me the chance to drive this car.” After starting on the outside of the front row, Davenport took the lead from polesitter Overton with a crossover move to the inside coming off the second turn on the first lap that saw Marlar, Madden and Hubbard in third through fifth respectively. One crossover move is worth another, as Overton returned the favor on Davenport to take the lead on lap two, as McDowell got by Hubbard for the fifth spot. The caution flag was unfurled for the first time on lap three when 2016 ULTIMATE SE Rookie of the Year Glenn Elliott spun in turn four. Marlar gave up the third spot on the track to pit under caution. Overton pulled in front of Davenport on lap seven, and Madden worked his way back around Hubbard for the third spot. Davenport made an inside move on Overton coming off the fourth turn on lap nine to take the lead. Hubbard and Madden were still contesting the third spot, with Hubbard reclaiming the position on the 11th lap. Davenport reached the cars on the tail end of the lead lap on lap 13, and McDowell got around Madden to take the fourth spot on lap 15. Overton chased down Davenport in lapped traffic, and began to challenge for the lead on lap 20. McDowell and Madden got by Hubbard to move up to third and fourth respectively on lap 20. Davenport was able to keep Overton behind him in lapped traffic, but once they had clear race track in front of them, Overton dove to the inside going into turn three on lap 28 to take the lead from Davenport. McDowell then closed on Davenport and they raced side-by-side for second on lap 30. Elliott brought out the caution flag for a second time on lap 32 to bunch up the field for a restart. By lap 35, Overton had pulled out to a half straightaway lead over McDowell. Marlar moved into the top five again on lap 38 when he got around Ferguson. The final caution flag of the race came out on lap 44 for debris in turn four. Overton led McDowell, Davenport, Marlar, Madden, Ferguson and Hubbard double-file back to the green flag. Marlar passed Davenport for the third spot on lap 45, and with ten laps to go, Overton had once again opened up a half straightaway lead over McDowell. Overton found himself in lapped traffic on lap 53. Overton had increased his lead over McDowell to a full straightaway on lap 55. At the checkered flag, Overton was out of sight of McDowell and took the checkered flag with a 4.175 second margin of victory. In the FASTRAK Racing Pro Late Model $3000 to win feature Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA, one of only a few drivers pulling double duty, returned to his dirt late model roots Saturday night and won the Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth presented by Essex Concrete 40. After starting on the outside of the front row for the main event, Davenport took the lead and never looked back. The driver known as “Superman” led all 40 laps for the win driving the C&H Paving Barry Wright “House Car.” “We’re off to a good start this year with our Chevrolet Performance Circle Track Engine program, as we’re three for three so far this season,” Davenport said. “Now, if we could just get some of that success to rub off on our super late model program we would be in good shape.” A pair of multi-car wrecks in turn one on the first two attempts to start the race accounted for two of the five caution flags in the event. Once everyone settled into a race pace, Davenport took the lead from his outside front row starting spot, followed by polesitter Ford, Justin Williams, Ron Parker of Belwood, NC in the Schaeffer Oil Rocket and Nance. Parker passed Williams for third on lap two, and by lap seven, Davenport had opened up a half straightaway lead on Ford. By the ninth lap, Davenport caught the cars on the tail end of the lead lap, but that didn’t slow him down at all. Williams began to fade a little on lap ten, as Nance passed him for fourth, and Knight got by him for the fifth spot on lap 12. Nance had a good run going, as he worked his way around Parker for the third position on the 14th tour. The field slowed for a caution flag on lap 16 when Beachler stalled in turn one. The double-file restart saw Davenport leading Ford, Nance, Parker, Knight, Bare, Justin Williams, Arthur, Hicks and Frankie Beard of Hartwell, GA in the Jessica Cornett Racing/CMP Automotive Mastersbilt in the second through tenth spots respectively for the restart. On the restart, Ford pushed up high in turn four, and hit the guardrail on the front straightaway. That caused Arthur to get sideways, and grab a handful of steering wheel. Arthur didn’t hit anyone, or anything, and the field stayed green with a major shuffle behind the leader Davenport. The caution flag came back out on lap 19 when teammates Matthew Quade of Mechanicsville, MD in the Northern Neck Chevrolet Rocket and Jared Powell of Scottsville, VA in the Northern Neck Chevrolet Rocket tangled with Corey Almond of Appomattox, VA in the Ditch Witch Longhorn in turn two. On the restart, Bare got by Nance for the second spot in turn two, and Hornsby, after restarting in the seventh spot, made a big move and passed Nance for third on the front straightaway on lap 20. Nance fell back to fifth on lap 23 when Ford got by for the fourth spot. Davenport encountered lapped traffic on lap 28 with a 15 car-length lead on Bare. By lap 30, Davenport had once again opened back up a half straightaway lead. Debris in turn four on lap 33 lit up the yellow bulb for a final time. With the field bunched up single file behind him, Davenport was once again up to the task, and led the seven lap dash to the finish. The Speedway will return to racing next Saturday April 15th and host week 2 of the Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship weekly racing action featuring the Victory Lap Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions. $20,000 to win Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth Presented by Essex Concrete this Saturday April 8

Jamaica, VA – One of the most anticipated events of the year gets the green flag this Saturday April 8th with the running of the $20,000 to win Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth presented by Essex Concrete. Saturday April 8th Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway will host one of the most prestigious events in the country and the largest short track event in the State of Virginia. That means some of the best dirt late model drivers on the East Coast will be making the trip to the ½ mile speed plant located in Jamaica, VA. The event will be sanctioned by the Ultimate Super Late Model Series and will feature a 60 lap A-Main paying the winner a cool $20,000. The event will also feature a $3000 to win FASTRAK National Tour race for Pro (Crate) Late Model drivers. “If you are a fan of short track racing you do not want to miss this event; the best dirt late model racers on the East Coast will be vying for that huge $20,000 check in what is the biggest short track event in the State of Virginia,” commented track owner Bill Sawyer. Sawyer added, “we can’t thank Aaron’s and Essex Concrete enough for their sponsorship of this event, we could not put together such a phenomenal event without their support.” Last season Mother Nature decided on bringing a snowy weekend to the party causing officials to cancel the event. In 2015 Randy Weaver of Crossville, TN bested a stellar field of competitors, in what was an amazing race, to take home the $20,000 winner’s check in the Ultimate Super Late Model sanctioned Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth presented by Essex Concrete. In the FASTRAK National Tour event, local driver, Walker Arthur took home the win and $3000 winner’s check. The speedway is expecting a great field of cars this year for both events. Defending Champion Dennis “Rambo” Franklin of Gaffney, SC will lead the Ultimate Super Late Model contingent into battle against the Mid-Atlantic’s top drivers. Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth Canceled amid Extreme Weather Forecast

Jamaica, Virginia (April 6, 2016) – After extensive discussion and study of weather forecasts for the area, officials of Virginia Motor Speedway have reluctantly decided to cancel Saturday’s $20,000 to win Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth. The National Weather Service is forecasting temps well below freezing for Saturday along with 20 MPH winds. There is also a high percentage of precipitation forecasted which would make preparing the track for the event difficult if not impossible. Without a suitable make-up date the event will be postponed until 2017. However the Aaron’s title sponsorship and the $20,000 to win purse will be transferred to the USA 100 which is scheduled on Saturday, June 4th. “This is obviously not what we wanted to happen with this event. We have poured a lot of time, effort and resources into making the Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth a success. But the weather forecast is just ominous. We were hoping that it would improve but those cold temps and wind coupled with the precipitation that we will surely get and there is just no way that we could expect people to be here and be able to enjoy the event. So we will take care of our friends at Aaron’s by transferring that title to the USA 100 in June.” said Virginia Motor Speedway Director of Marketing and PR Dave Seay. “It is very unfortunate but there isn’t anything anyone can do about the weather. Saturday just looks miserable. It just doesn’t make any sense to ask people to try to endure that kind of weather. Randy Weaver Crowned Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth; Walker Arthur Wins $3000 FASTRAK National Tour Event

Jamaica, Virginia (April 11, 2015) – Coming into the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series sanctioned Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth at Virginia Motor Speedway the name being talked about more than any other was the white-hot Randy Weaver of Crossville, Tennessee. After all, the 45 year old driver was off to his best season start of his career having won each of the 4 events he had entered thus far. So most of the dirt late model world was wondering if Weaver could keep his winning streak alive at a facility he had never even seen before. And what was Weaver’s answer? A resounding yes in the form of a dominating win that saw him set overall fast time, win his heat race and lead every lap of the sixty lap feature to garner the biggest payday of his career. “The good Lord is being real good to me right now and I don’t know why. I owe everything to Him. But man what a race car and crew. I’m tellin’ ya anybody in them grandstands can drive this thing. It about drives itself. And Josh and Grant and my owners Chip and Rusty Stone are here this weekend. This awesome Cornett power. This Longhorn Chassis, everywhere we go…I mean I have never seen this place, I have just heard great things about it, and I can’t believe that my name is in history down here now.” said a very jubilant Weaver in his victory lane interview. Weaver picks up his second ULTIMATE Super Late Model victory of the season which is his richest to date. “What an incredible facility here. This is just an awesome place. For promoters to take a chance like this in our sport…we really appreciate facilities like Virginia Motor Speedway.” In other action Walker Arthur of Forest, VA dominated on way to a $3000 victory during the 40 lap FASTRAK National Tour event. It was the inaugural race for the new FASTRAK National Tour. At the drop of the green flag for the Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth Weaver surged to the lead. And while out front Weaver’s progress was only slowed as he encountered lapped traffic it was a very different story behind him. Davenport and Zeigler waged a battle for the runner-up spot from the outset. Davenport was able to slip into 2nd on the opening lap. However on the 4th circuit Zeigler was able to use his outside line to grab 2nd while Bloomquist and Chris Madden gave chase from the 4th and 5th positions. Davenport continued to stalk Zeigler and when Bloomquist jumped into the mix, Davenport turned up the wick. Bloomquist rolled by Davenport down the back straightaway but Davenport would have no part of it. He drove his Longhorn machine to the high side of turns 3 and 4 moving back by Bloomquist and setting up Zeigler for the slider through turns one and two to retake the 2nd position. Up front Weaver was cruising but beginning to encounter back marker traffic. Weaver was able to negotiate the lap machines with relative ease as he was able to move his race car all over the track when he needed to. However Weaver’s only real scare of the event came as he was attempting to put Ricky Elliott down a lap. Weaver entered turn 3 hard in order to slide by the high running Elliott. Weaver’s machine began to hop wildly as he slid up the track. No harm, no foul for Weaver however as the yellow waved for the final time of the night when Earl Pearson, Jr. stopped on the track. Weaver was able to continue with no issues after the scare. “I thought I had knocked the tires off it there. I heard them call for the caution and I was checking up as it was sliding to the outside. I shook it back and forth and made sure everything was still under me.” Weaver added. Under him it was as he powered away on the final restart and held on to win the $20,000 winner’s purse. Davenport settled for 2nd and Bloomquist finished in the 3rd position. In addition to the nice payday, event title-sponsor Aaron’s Inc. presented Weaver with a new 49” LG 4K Ultra HD Television as a part of the Aaron’s “Best Seat in the House” Promotion. The win was Weaver’s 5th in a row for 2015 and brought his 2015 winnings to over $45,000. To say the first ever FASTRAK National Tour event was a success would be an understatement as 37 of the East Coast’s top Pro Late Model ushered in a new era in FASTRAK racing. Local favorite and former track champion Walker Arthur of Forest, VA etched his name into the record books by winning the first event FASTRAK National Tour event in dominating fashion. The first ever National Tour race was a companion event for the Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth sanctioned by its sister series the Ultimate Super Late Model tour. “We’ve turned a lot of laps around this place but this has to be one of the biggest wins I have ever had here at VMS. The car has been so good all year and it ran just flawless tonight; event though we didn’t do as well as we want in the Super Late model tonight, we are super excited about winning the first ever FASTRAK National Tour event here at our home track,” commented Arthur in victory lane. At the drop of the green flag Arthur rocketed to the lead from his pole position as David Smith, Jimmy Schiltz, Daniel Baggerly and Mark Parks went four wide to decide second. With the action behind him Arthur pulled away to a comfortable lead. By lap 11 Arthur began working lapped traffic while the battle for second continued between Smith, Parks and Schiltz. At the halfway point Arthur maintained almost a full straight lead over the field while masterfully working lapped traffic. With plenty of two, three and even four wide racing behind him Arthur continued to stretch out the lead. On lap 20 Kennie Compton Jr. joined the battle for second picking off drivers one by one until he finally claimed the spot from Smith on lap 30. With 10 laps remaining Compton tried to reel in the leader but Arthur was too strong going on to take the $3000 victory with Compton, Smith, Parks and Schiltz, Matt Long, 2014 FASTRAK World Champion Tim Dohm, Dillon Brown, Daniel Baggerly and Jared Powell rounding out the top ten.
