Logan Roberson Scores Pro Late Model Victory; Hubbard, Butler, Shelton, and Maxey Crowned 2022 Champions

Jamaica, VA – Logan Roberson of Waynesboro, VA, made his trip to Virginia Motor Speedway for some FASTRAK World Championship practice count, and in a big way. Roberson rocketed past Austin Hubbard of Bridgeville, DE, for the lead on lap 21 and then pulled away from the field to go on to grab the win in the Victory Lap Pro Late Model 30-lap feature. “It’s always great to get a win here; we feel really good about our chances in the upcoming $50,000 to win FASTRAK World Championship in September,” commented Roberson in Virginia Is For Racing Lovers victory lane. With his runner-up finish, Hubbard was crowned the 2022 Victory Lap Pro Late Model, his second at Virginia Motor Speedway. Austin Hubbard jumped to the lead on the drop of the green flag and looked to have the race with Trevor Collins close in second. By lap 10 Logan Roberson had moved into second and was closing on the leader. It looked like Hubbard would have enough to hold off Roberson that was until lap 21 when Roberson rocketed past for the lead out of turn 2. Once out front, Roberson pulled away from the field and went on to score the win by 4.995 seconds. Rounding out the top 5 were Hubbard, Ray Love Jr., Trevor Collins, and Nick Davis. In the Budweiser Modified 25-lap feature Joey Polevoy of Powhatan, VA, led flag to flag to score his second win of the season. Polevoy jumped to the lead on the drop of the green flag with Lance Grady in tow. On lap 3 point leader Chase Butler had a bit of a scare spinning to bring out the first caution of the race. On lap 12, Bret Hamilton would take second from Grady and set out to catch the leader. Polevoy would hold off Hamilton for the win. Rounding out the top 5 were Chase Butler, Lance Grady, and Brent Bordeaux. Rebounding from his lap four spin, Chase Butler of Mechanicsville, VA, was crowned the 2022 Budweiser Modified Champion for the second year in a row. Butler was the only driver in the modified division to finish in the top 5 in each race. Davis Lipscombe of Mechanicsville, VA, returned to the Truckin Thunder Sportsman division with one goal to pick up the win. The division’s 2021 champion did just that, getting by Matt Meads of Elizabeth City, NC, on lap 10. With seven laps to go, Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA, had made his way back to the runner-up spot. With five laps to go, Shelton would try to get inside Lipscombe in turn 1, only to have Lipscombe use the high-side to his advantage to hold on to the top spot. Lipscombe would go on to take the win and keep Shelton from matching his perfect record set in 2021. Rounding out the top five were Shelton, Matt Meads, Adam Breeden, and James Givens. Shelton would be crowned the 2022 Truckin Thunder Champion finishing no worse than second during the 2022 season. It took Johnny Brooks of Aylett, VA, eight laps to work his way to the lead in the Collision One Limited Stock Car 20-lap feature from his sixth place starting position. Once out front, Brooks would go on to score his third win of the season. Brooks would get by Ryan Hutchens on lap 8 with an inside move out of turn 2. Brian Maxey would close in on the leader with laps winding down but would be involved in a caution ending his night. Brooks would go on to score the win over Ryan Hutchens, Cory Bradley, Jacob Buie, and Brandon Bowler. Brian Maxey of King George, VA, would be crowned the 2022 Collision One Limited Stock Car Champion. The next event for the speedway will be the $50,000 to win FASTRAK World Championship presented by Dealer Group USA, set for September 23-24, 2022. The highest-paying Pro Late Model event will attract some of the top drivers in the country to the ½-mile speed plant located in Jamaica, VA. The format for the event will include practice, qualifying, and heats on Friday, September 23, and B Mains and feature on Saturday, September 24. Any driver not making the feature will be entered into a drawing for a brand new GM 604 motor valued at $7500. More details about the big weekend will be released in the coming week. Prelude to the World Championship Canceled Due to Impending Weather

Jamaica, VA – With a high chance of rain in the forecast for Saturday, August 20, Virginia Motor Speedway and FASTRAK Racing officials have made the tough decision to cancel the $3000 to win Prelude to the World Championship. “It is never an easy decision to cancel an event. But, with competitors coming as far away as Florida and Mississippi, we just wanted to let everyone know early so that teams and fans don’t incur unnecessary fuel and travel costs, ” said Track Owner Bill Sawyer. The speedway’s next event will be next Saturday, August 27, as we host Collision One Championship Night, with champions in all four divisions crowned. Spectator and competitor gates for Saturday, August 27, will open at 5 PM, with on-track action starting at 5:45 PM and features starting at 7 PM. Jamaica, VA – The stars and cars of the FASTRAK Pro Late Model Touring Series will invade Virginia Motor Speedway for the $3000 to win Prelude to the World Championship. Many of the Mid-Atlantic’s top Pro Late Model drivers will be on hand to not only take home the $3000 top prize but also get some valuable track time for the $50,000 to win FASTRAK World Championship set for September 23-24, 2022. “What this essentially boils down to is a paid practice for Pro Late Model competitors for our upcoming $50,000 to win FASTRAK World Championship presented by Dealer Group USA,” commented track owner and President Bill Sawyer. Sawyer added, “the FASTRAK Pro Late Model races are some of the best races we host here at Virginia Motor Speedway; no matter where you look, there is always three and four wide action throughout the field.” Also, see the tracks Budweiser Modified, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, and Collision One Limited Stocks in action. CHRIS FERGUSON SCORES $20,000 ERNIE SHELTON’S USA 100 VICTORY; POLEVOY AND HARPER SCORE FIRST WINS OF THE SEASON

Jamaica, VA – Chris Ferguson of Mt. Holly, NC, notched his name in the record books for the second time by holding off both Russell Erwin of Beaverdam, VA and Gregg Satterlee of Indiana, PA, over the last five laps of the 46th Annual Ernie Shelton’s Virginia Is For Racing Lovers USA 100 presented by Northern Neck Chevrolet. Erwin got by Ferguson on lap 44 as they went three-wide with a lapped car to be scored the leader on lap 45. Ferguson would go back to the outside of Erwin on the next lap out of turn 2 to take back the lead. Once out front Ferguson turned up the heat and scored the $20,000 victory. Ferguson has now won the USA 100 twice, in 2014 and 2022. “I just wasn’t completely comfortable on the tire we ran tonight; I just had to get up on the wheel and work the cushion to get this win,” commented Chris Ferguson in Virginia Is For Racing Lover’s victory lane. Rounding out the top five were Russell Erwin, Gregg Satterlee, Zack Mitchell, and Kyle Hardy. On the drop of the green flag for the USA 100, Zack Mitchell jumped to the lead from his outside row starting position with Chris Ferguson in tow. By lap 11, Mitchell, Ferguson, and Satterlee were battling for the lead in lapped traffic. Ferguson looked inside Mitchell for the lead on the next lap, only to fall back into second. Finally, on lap 22, Ferguson got inside Mitchell coming out of turn 4 to take the lead. Once out front, Ferguson worked lapped traffic with Satterlee, Erwin, and Mitchell battling for second. On lap 34, Erwin took second from Satterlee at the line. Once in second, Erwin set out to reel in Ferguson for the lead. On lap 42, Ferguson and Erwin almost got into a lapped car coming out of turn 4, with Erwin clipping the lapped car and damaging his spoiler. On lap 44, Ferguson and Erwin went three-wide with a lapped car, with Erwin getting by Ferguson in Turn 1 to lead lap 45. Ferguson would get up on the wheel and go back to the outside of Erwin taking the lead back out of turn 2. Once out front never looked back to go on and score the $20,000 victory. Speedway to host the 46th Annual Ernie Shelton’s Virginia Is For Racing Lover USA 100 this Saturday, August 6th

Jamaica, VA – The stars and cars of the Ultimate Super Late Models Series will return to Virginia Motor Speedway for the $20,000 to win 46th annual Ernie Shelton’s Virginia Is For Racing Lovers USA 100 this Saturday August 6th. After canceling the last two USA 100’s due to the COVID pandemic in 2020 and the tire shortage last year, everyone is excited to have one of the country’s oldest Super Late Model events take the green. The $20,000 to win event will see some of the region’s top dirt late model talent in action. Brandon Overton is the defending race winner, winning in 2019 in a photo finish over Rick Eckert. The USA 100 will also include the track’s Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in Dirt Series Championship weekly racing action. “The Ultimate Super Late Model Series competitors never disappoint when it comes to putting on a show for the fans, and the 2019 race was exhilarating with Brandon Overton inching out Rick Eckert for the win,” commented track owner Bill Sawyer. “Sawyer added, “if you miss this event, you may miss what may well be considered the best race of 2022.” Competitor gates for Saturday, August 6th, will open at 3 pm, with spectator gates opening at 5 pm. JEREMY PILKERTON SCORES CAREER FIRST PRO LATE MODEL WIN AT SPEEDWAY; KABLE, SHELTON AND BROOKS ALSO GRAB WINS

Jamaica, VA – Jeremy Pilkerton of Loveville, MD has come close to a Victory Lap Pro Late Model win multiple times over the last two years, it all came together as Pilkerton held of current point leader Austin Hubbard of Bridgeville, DE to score that career first victory. Pilkerton would take the lead on lap 8 from Matthew Hildebrand of Standardsville, VA after getting to the inside out of turn 3. “We have come so close here on so many occasions, it feels great to finally get this win,” commented Pilkerton in Virginia Is For Racing Lovers victory lane. On the drop of the green flag the racing went three and four wide throughout the field with Hildebrand leading the first lap. Hildebrand would lead the first seven laps before having Pilkerton take over the top spot on lap 8. Once out front it looked as if Pilkerton would run away and hide, as the action behind him was intense for second on back. Hubbard, Ray Love Jr., and Corey Almond waged an intense battle for second. Once Hubbard had taken control of second he set out to catch Pilkerton for the lead. Several times Hubbard tried to wrestle the lead away, but each time Pilkerton was up to the challenge. Pilkerton would to score the win by 1.473 seconds. Rounding out the top 5 were Austin Hubbard, Corey Almond, Matthew Hildebrand, and Ray Love Jr. Ray Kable of Sykesville, MD made his first trip count, sweeping both qualifying and the feature. Kable set fast time and inverted the top four cars with the pill pull putting Joey Polevoy on the pole. Polevoy would lead the first lap with the battle for second behind him hot and heavy. Kable would win the battle for second and set out for Polevoy. Kable would catch and take the lead on lap 7. Once out front Kable would pull away from the battle for second between Polevoy, Rick Hulson, and Chase Butler. With the battle behind him Kable cruised to the win. Rounding out the top five were Rick Hulson, Joey Polevoy, Lance Grady, and Chase Butler. With Kable winning it now make it four different winners in four races. It took Tim Shelton of Frederickburg, VA a whopping six. It took a little slip by Matt Mead of Elizabeth City, NC on lap five, but that was all Shelton needed. Once out front Shelton pulled away. Mead made a couple of runs at the lead only to have Shelton pull away again. Tyler Shipp would take second from Meads on lap 17. He had a shot on lap 20 on a restart to get inside Shelton, but couldn’t complete the pass and had to fall back into second. Shelton would go to win by a 2.310 second advantage. The victory was Shelton’s fourth in as many tries. Rounding out the top 5 were Tyler Shipp, Matt Meads, James Givens, and Adam Breeden. Sometimes it pays to be a little lucky. Johnny Brooks of Aylett, VA almost had his night in the Collision One Limited Stock Car 20 lap feature turn in a much different direction. On the lap 7 restart, then leader Raymond Harper was leading the car to green when his car went dead with Brooks up under his rear bumper. Brooks would fall back six spots, of course that was before the caution flew for Harper. That put Brooks back on the point for the restart. Brooks would then go on to take his second win in a row. SPEEDWAY RETURNS TO RACING ON SATURDAY, JULY 23

Jamaica, VA – Virginia Motor Speedway will return to racing Saturday, July 23rd, and host week 6 of Dirt Series Championship weekly racing. The night will feature the Victory Lap Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified, and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in some exciting side-by-side action. On Saturday, July 23rd, competitor gates will open at 3 PM, with spectator gates opening at 5 PM. On-track activities will begin at 5:45 PM for hot laps. Features will start at 7 PM. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday will be the Victory Pro Late Models (30 Laps), Budweiser Modifieds (25 Laps), Truckin Thunder Sportsman (25 laps), and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars (20 laps). All divisions will run Hot Lap Time Trials and Features. Admission price for Adults $12, seniors (60+) / military (active/retired w/ proper I.D.) $10, students 13 – 17 years old $8 and children 12 and under admitted free. Pit passes will be $25. MOTHER NATURE WINS AGAIN; SPEEDWAY CANCELS RACING FOR SATURDAY, JULY 9

Jamaica, VA – With the high chance of rain and thunderstorms on Saturday, July 9, speedway management has decided to cancel racing activities for Saturday, July 9. “We hate having to cancel any event, but with the weather services calling for 80 – 99% chance of rain, we feel it best to go ahead and cancel racing for Saturday, July 9,” commented track owner Bill Sawyer. “With the continued high gas prices, we just can’t put our fans and competitors in a position to spend money unnecessarily.” The Speedway will return to racing Saturday, July 23, to host week 6 of Dirt Series Championship weekly racing. AUSTIN HUBBARD SCORES PRO LATE MODEL VICTORY; SHELTON, HULSON, AND BROOKS ALSO GRAB WINS

Jamaica, VA – It’s been since the 2008 season since 2006 Limited Late Model Champions Austin Hubbard of Bridgeville, DE has visited Virginia Is For Racing Lovers victory lane at Virginia Motor Speedway, this time Hubbard did it in the Victory lap Pro Late Model division. Hubbard would grab the lead from his outside starting position on would lead flag to flag to pick up the win and also take over the points lead. “It feels so good to be back in victory lane here, it feels like a family reunion. This track has been the raciest track in the country this year, with two and three wide the norm,” commented Hubbard in Virginia Is For Racing Lovers victory lane. It may show in the results that Hubbard led every lap and that it was a cake walk, but that was not the case, as Matthew Hildebrand reeled in Hubbard with five laps to go. Once Hubbard saw the nose of Hildebrand’s nose, he increased the pace to keep his slim lead all the way to the checkers. Rounding out the top five were Hildebrand, Ray Love, Jr., Jeremy Pilkerton, and Chuck Bowie. It only took four laps for Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA to work his way from eighth to the lead in the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 25 lap feature. Shelton passed Steve Causey of Smithfield, VA on lap 4 and never looked back to take his third win in a row and third in a row. Causey, Matt Meads, fifteenth starting Billy Adkins, and James Givens rounded out the top five. In the Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature Rick Hulson of Glen Burnie, MD worked his way from his seventh place starting position to take the lead on lap 13 from then leader Brent Bordeaux of Fredericksburg, VA. Once out front Hulson benefited from the battle for second on back and pulled to a comfortable lead. Behind him Bordeaux, fast qualifier Chase Butler, Jeff Solinger and Joey Polevoy waged a three wide battle at times for second. Butler would end up with second after a battle with Bordeaux with laps winding down. Butler, Bordeaux, Joey Polevoy, and Jeff Solinger rounded out the top 5. Twelve hours before visiting Virginia Is For Racing Lovers victory lane in the Collision One Limited Stock Car 20 lap feature, Johnny Brooks of Aylett, VA was in the hospital emergency room for something in his eye and kidney stones. That didn’t keep him from holding off Brian Maxey for his first victory of 2022. Brooks took the lead from Raymond Harper with a pass on the outside of turn 4, grabbing the lead by inches. Once out front brooks held off several challenges for the lead before taking the victory with a comfortable lead. Rounding out the top five were Maxey, Harper, Cory Bradley, and Ryan Hutchens. The speedway will take the Independence Day weekend off and return to racing Saturday, July 9, and host Gloucester S.T.A.R. Kids Night and week 4 of Dirt Series Championship weekly racing. The night will feature all four of the speedway’s weekly division in action.
