2012 RULES FOR ALL DIVISIONS HAVE BEEN UPDATED

Jamaica, VA – The 2012 rules packages for all four of our weekly divisions have been updated and posted under the Drivers tab, then under Forms and Rules. It is the competitors responsibility to download both the General Rules and the rules associated with their particular division they will be running during the 2012 season. Attention Late Model and Sportsman drivers – There will be a change in the tire rule once we get the final information from Hoosier Tire. They are discontinuing several tire compounds and in the process we will have to change our tire offerings for 2012 and beyond. Once we have the compound numbers the rules will be updated and we will post them on the website and on our Facebook page....

Adams, Traylor, Arnold and Givens crowned Champions at Virginia Motor Speedway; Traylor crowned VA Army National Guard Dirt Series Champion

Jamaica, VA – Bill Sawyers Virginia Motor Speedway wrapped up the 2011 season by recognizing the top ten in each of the track’s divisions with special attention reserved for the 2011 champions. During the night’s events almost $34,000 in cash and prizes were awarded, of that almost $28,000 was in cash. This year’s championships saw two familiar faces and two drivers picking up career first championships. Scott Adams of Chester, VA was crowned the Victory Lap Late Model Champion for the second consecutive year and received a check for $5,000 for his efforts. Adams also received an invitation to the Rocket Chassis Race Wise Chassis School, a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography and his Championship helmet trophy and jacket. Rounding out the top ten in Victory Lap Late Model points were David Williams of Clements, MD; Kenny Moreland of Waldorf, MD; Derrick Quade of Mechanicsville, VA; Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA;Davis Lipscombe of Mechanicsville, VA; Matt Marshall of Stuarts Draft, VA; Andy Gregg of Portsmouth, VA; Alan Anderson of Norfolk, VA and Brandon Long of Mechanicsville, MD. Rounding out the top ten in Collision One Limited Stock Car points were Joe Ender of Glen Allen, VA; 2010 Champion Ryan Toole of Richmond, VA; Brandon Coates of Tappahannock, VA; Ricky Douglas of Fredericksburg, VA; Brandon Sandridge of New Kent, VA; 2009 Champion Brett Adkins of Gloucester, VA; Thomas Rose of Gloucester, VA; David Bowler of Gloucester, VA; and Ryan Hutchens of Providence Forge, VA. The speedway also crowns an overall Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series Champion which pits all four divisions against each other and in the closest battle in the six year history of the championship Truckin Thunder Champion Todd Traylor of King William, VA beat out Victory Lap Late Model Champion Scott Adams and Budweiser Modified Champion Dan Arnold to take the overall championship and the $2000 check and special eagle trophy that goes along with it. Special achievement award winners for the 2011 season included: The Pitts Lumber Rookies of the Year were Kenny Moreland of Waldorf, MD in Victory Lap Late Models; Junior Carter of Mechanicsville, VA in Truckin Thunder Sportsman; Aaron Harris of Chester, VA in Budweiser Modifieds and Ben Lowry of Mechanicsville, VA in the Collision One Limited Stock Car division. Each winner received a plaque and $250. The speedway’s 2012 schedule of events is expected to be released in a couple of weeks after some fine tuning. The season is scheduled to start Saturday March 31st with an open practice. This year’s $25,000 to win Commonwealth 100 will be sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and will run April 13-14, 2012 with a Sunday April 15th rain date. The Ultimate Super Late Model Series is scheduled to return on Saturday May 19th for a $10,000 to win event and the 2012 season ender will be the 33rd Annual USA 100 that will now pay $20,000 to win an become a two day show September 14 – 15th, with a Sunday Sept. 16th rain date established. Record Crowd for 7th Annual Run A Muck Mud Bog And Mud Sling at The Pit

Jamaica, VA – The Pit at Virginia Motor Speedway hosted the 7th Annual Run-A-Muck Mud Bog and Mud Sling presented by James River / Rappahannock Tractor, Virginia Army National Guard and in part by Davis Off Road, Monster Energy Drink, NAPA of King William, Truckin Thunder and ORI of Richmond this past Saturday October 1st to a record crowd. The event also boasted another large field of competitors featuring not only some of the areas top mud trucks in a very tough mud pit but also the very popular 1500 horsepower mud dragsters in the mud sling pit. If that wasn’t enough the fans were also treated to an awesome monster truck freestyle show by Equalizer and fans also witnessed the first performance of Dennis Anderson’s King Sling at a track other than Anderson’s own Muddy Motorsports Park. The cool temperatures and partly sunny skies provided a tremendous day for mud bogging. Overall 110 different competitors took turns at the state of the art 200 foot pit for a total of 203 total passes. Rain Forces Cancellation of Final Race of the Season

Jamaica, VA – Rain and the forecast for more thunderstorms has forced officials at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway to cancel Truckin Thunder / Collision One / WIGO Championship Night activities for Saturday, September 24th. “This is not the way we wanted to end the season, but we have run out of weekends for the 2011 season. To say we are disappointed would be an understatement, this is the second time we have had to cancel Championship Night,” commented track General Manager Clarke Sawyer. With the rain out the 2011 Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series track championships have been decided. In the Victory Lap Late Model division Scott Adams of Chester, VA wins his second consecutive late model title. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman division Todd Traylor of King William, VA wins his first title. In the Budweiser Modified division Dan Arnold of Petersburg, VA takes home his third consecutive modified title and in the Collision One Limited Stock Cars Wesley Givens of New Kent, VA will get his career first championship by one point. The top ten in each division will be honored at the 2011 Awards Banquet to be held Saturday October 29, 2011 at the Virginia Beach Convention Center in Virginia Beach, VA. Information on the banquet can be found on the speedway website or by calling the speedway offices. The action will now switch to the speedway’s state of the art mud bog facility. On Saturday October 1st The Pit at Virginia Motor Speedway will host the 7th Annual Run-A-Muck Mud Bog and Mud Sling presented by Rappahannock Tractor and the Virginia Army National Guard. Additional sponsorship provided by Davis Off Road, Monster Energy Drinks, NAPA of King William, ORI of Richmond, Collision One and Truckin Thunder. There will be nine classes of “Mud Maniacs” in action ranging from stock to unlimited with cash payouts in all classes. New for this year’s event will be the addition of the Pro Modified class. After discussions with both competitors and fans Pit officials have added the very exciting class to the line up. Rules for the new Pro Modified division are posted on the Pit’s website by next week. Not only will fans get to see hordes of trucks splashing through the 200 foot Mud Bog pit but they will also get the opportunity to see some of the regions best Mud Dragsters covering the 200 foot Mud Sling pit in under three seconds. The event will also include a car crushing monster truck freestyle show and Dennis Anderson and his new creation King Sling will be competing in the Unlimited Bog division; that is if it is still in one piece after he goes off in the Freestyle show he has scheduled! Throw in the fact that every competitor is also vying for the coveted Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series championship, which will crown an over all track champion, this will be a must see event. The night’s activities will include the Victory Lap Late Models, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modifieds and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars in Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series action. Competitor gates for Saturday, September 24th will open at 4pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm with hot laps. Scott Bloomquist wins Lucas Oil Late Models Dirt Series USA 100

Jamaica, VA (Courtesy James Essex Lucas Oil Series) – Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN took the lead for good on the 24th lap from Steve Francis of Ashland, KY. He went on to win the rain-shortened Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned USA 100 on Sunday afternoon at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway. Bloomquist and Francis staged a terrific race for the lead in the first 24 laps of the race until Bloomquist began to pull away. Rain then hit the track and the main event was halted with 31 laps complete. Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN was third followed by Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN and Jamie Lathroum of Mechanicsville, MD. Francis grabbed the lead at the start with Bloomquist and Steve Shaver in tow. Francis held the lead for most of the race with Bloomquist edging ahead of him on lap seven. Francis quickly charged back by Bloomquist for the lead. The two continued a side-by-side battle with Francis leading the way until lap 24 when Bloomquist passed him exiting turn four in traffic. Bloomquist swiftly put three lapped cars between himself and Francis. Rain started to fall on lap 31, forcing a red-flag. With more precipitation on the way and being past the half-mark, VMS officials and Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series officials decided to call the event with 19 laps remaining out of the scheduled 50. It was Bloomquist’ first ever win at Virginia Motor Speedway as he completed the weekend sweep in Virginia. “It sounds good to win both of these races; we had never won at either of these tracks. We knew we would get one eventually, the car was good all day, it was a little hard to pass in the heat race. The tire set up we chose worked great for getting to the bottom and get something done down there,” said the 47-year-old who captured his 13th series win of the year and the 39th of his career. “Steve (Francis) was running well, he got boxed in some traffic and I was able to get under him. We raced close and clean, we both run Roush-Yates Engines and they were great today. Thanks to the fans for coming out today, it’s a shame the weather didn’t cooperate,” said Bloomquist, who with the win took back over the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Championship Points lead from Owens. Bloomquist drives his own Bloomquist Race Cars Ford sponsored by Base Racing Fuels, Hawkeye Trucking, Sweet Mfg, Miller Brothers Construction, Hoosier Tires, Lane Automotive, Allstar Performance, Dixie Chopper and Ohlins. His win in the Sunday’s USA 100 was the third of his career with his previous victories coming in 1993 and 1994 when the event was held at Beckley (WV) Motor Speedway. Francis in his Valvoline, Harbaugh Amusement, MasterSbilt #15 took second in the final results. “We had a real good car today, we went with the smaller motor thinking the track would slick up some and it did. I tried to hold my line there, if we just could have kept the lead for about five more laps we would’ve won, but once Scott got by me, I knew I was in trouble.” Marlar in the Bryson Motorsports Rocket claimed third and was happy with his run. “To finish third to these guys, it is quite an accomplishment. We’ll take third and go to the next race, I was just waiting for the final 20 laps, and I felt like we had a car that could’ve won.” Completing the top ten were John Blankenship of Williamson, WV; Steve Shaver of Vienna, WV; Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN; Jason Covert of York Haven, PA; and Dan Stone of Thompson, PA. In preliminary action, Mike Marlar was the Red Buck Cigars fast qualifier among the 32 entrants. The two-25 lap qualifying heat races went to Steve Francis and Marlar. The B-mains were won by Gary Stuhler and Walker Arthur The 30 Lap feature for the modifieds was rained out and will not be rescheduled. Nick Hoffman of Mooresville, NC set a new track record in qualifying with a lap of 18.988 seconds. Picking up heat race wins were Nick Hoffman, Dave Defibaugh and Dan Arnold.
